Tighten the “Master Switch” of Work Style, Forge a Clean “New Force”
General Secretary Xi Jinping has always attached great importance to the work style building of young cadres. As early as during his work in Ningde, Comrade Xi Jinping pointed out: “Without the lofty aspiration of lifelong integrity and lifelong service to the people, it is difficult to expect sustained flight and ‘soaring straight up.’” [1]1 "Being on the examination" (赶考) is a metaphor used by the CPC, originating from Mao Zedong's remark before the founding of the PRC in 1949 that entering Beijing to govern the country was like "going to the capital to sit for an examination," implying that the Party must constantly face and pass the tests of governance. In March 2021, at the opening ceremony of the training program for young and middle-aged cadres at the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance), General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: “The greater the risks, the more numerous the challenges, and the heavier the tasks, the more we must strengthen the Party’s work style building, to invigorate the spirit, stimulate fighting will, establish an image, and win the people’s hearts with a good work style.” Work style building, as an eternal subject of cadre team building, is not only a compulsory course on the path of growth for young cadres but also a talisman for preserving their political essence. Currently, the study and education on thoroughly implementing the spirit of the Eight-Point Regulations of the Central Committee is being carried out in an orderly manner across the entire Party. It is of great and far-reaching significance to do a good job in the work style building of young cadres and to deeply study and implement the spirit of the Eight-Point Regulations of the Central Committee and its detailed implementation rules.
Thought is the precursor of action, and faith is the foundation of work style. Young cadres are at the initial stage of their careers, with their worldview, outlook on life, and values not yet fully mature; strengthening theoretical study is particularly important. Facing the collision and agitation of diverse ideological trends, they must consciously arm their minds with Xi Jinping Thought
There are no trivial matters in work style construction; the test of clean governance and self-discipline often lies in the subtle details of the “life circle” and “social circle.” Young cadres shoulder important responsibilities and missions, and must therefore fasten the “discipline button” with the sober awareness of “treading on thin ice,” making no concessions on the boundary between public and private, and cultivating a noble spirit while calibrating their bearings. The cases of young cadres who have ended up in prison warn us that the starting point of many disciplinary and illegal acts is precisely the numbness that takes “micro-privileges” and “petty bureaucratism” for granted. Only by grasping early and small matters with the spirit of driving a nail, controlling the “first time,” holding firm at the “subtle points,” making “being cautious when alone, cautious at the start, and cautious in small matters” a code of conduct, cherishing the training given by the organization, and cherishing the opportunities to work and start undertakings, can one rectify the mind, understand the Way, guard against gradual erosion, and forever preserve the political essence of the Communist. At the same time, one must actively accept supervision, take the process of “inspection” as an opportunity for self-revolution, thoroughly and comprehensively examine the problems existing in oneself regarding the implementation of the spirit of the Central Committee’s Eight-Point Regulations and its implementation rules, dig deep into the root causes of the problems, achieve clarity in one’s mind and effectiveness in rectification, calibrate the “coordinate system” of one’s words and actions, and transform clean governance from external constraint into internal self-discipline.
General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out: “Rules are meant to be binding, so they must be tight
Conduct problems are recurrent and stubborn. Strengthening conduct building cannot be accomplished overnight or in one fell swoop, still less can it be a passing fad that stops as soon as it starts. Conduct building is always on the way. Young cadres must always maintain the sobriety and resolve of "being on the examination,"[1]1 "Being on the examination" (赶考) is a metaphor used by the CPC, originating from Mao Zedong's remark before the founding of the PRC in 1949 that entering Beijing to govern the country was like "going to the capital to sit for an examination," implying that the Party must constantly face and pass the tests of governance. diligently sweep away the "dust of thought,"[2]2 "Dust of thought" (思想之尘) is a metaphorical phrase in CPC discourse referring to impure or corrupting ideas that accumulate in one's mind. think more about the "harm of greed,"[3]3 "Harm of greed" (贪欲之害) is a standard phrase in CPC anti-corruption rhetoric, referring to the damage caused by avarice and material desire. and constantly break the "thief in the heart,"[4]4 "Thief in the heart" (心中之贼) is a classical allusion from the Ming dynasty philosopher Wang Yangming, meaning the internal obstacles or selfish desires that prevent one from acting morally; in CPC usage it refers to corrupt or decadent thoughts that must be overcome. making persistent and unremitting efforts in conduct building.
Young cadres are the hope for the development of the Party and the state's cause. Forging a clean "new force" is not only about caring for and protecting young cadres, but is also a key move to ensure the enduring vitality of the Party and the state's cause. We must take the opportunity of thoroughly implementing the education and study of the Central Committee's Eight-Point Regulations[5]5 The Eight-Point Regulations (八项规定) are a set of rules on austerity and anti-corruption introduced by the CPC Central Committee in December 2012, targeting extravagance, bureaucracy, and formalism among Party officials. to continuously polish this "golden card" of the Eight-Point Regulations, and contribute to advancing Chinese-path modernization with new achievements in the conduct building of young cadres.
