History and Reality” Academic Symposium Held in Beijing

To deeply understand General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of discourses on socialism since the 18th National Congress of the CPC [1]1 The 18th National Congress of the CPC was held in November 2012, marking the beginning of Xi Jinping’s leadership as General Secretary of the Party Central Committee., to deeply explore the laws of development of the international communist movement, to scientifically grasp the current situation and trends of world socialism, to advance the disciplinary construction and theoretical research of the international communist movement, and thereby to provide reference and inspiration for socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Department of International Communist Movement of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences hosted the “International Communist Movement: History and Reality” academic symposium in Beijing on September 24. Li Shenming, researcher and director of the Research Center for World Socialism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech. Wang Xuedong, researcher and deputy director of the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau and president of the Chinese Society for the History of the International Communist Movement, and Fan Jianxin, researcher and deputy director of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, each delivered addresses. Liu Shuchun, researcher and director of the Department of International Communist Movement of the Academy of Marxism, presided over the opening ceremony. More than 60 experts and scholars from nearly 20 units, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC [2]2 The International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC is the Party body responsible for managing relations with foreign political parties and organizations., the Central Party School, Peking University, Renmin University of China, Shandong University, and Central China Normal University, participated in the symposium. Multiple media outlets, including the People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and the Chinese Social Sciences Today, reported on the meeting. Centering on the theme “International Communist Movement: History and Reality,” the participating scholars conducted in-depth discussions on topics including the laws of development, experiences, lessons, and inspirations of the international communist movement; the current situation and prospects of foreign communist parties and other socialist forces; the relationship between socialism with Chinese characteristics and world socialism; and the disciplinary construction of the international communist movement.
