The Fourth Member Representative Conference and 2013 Academic Annual Meeting of the China Atheism Society Convened in Beijing

The Fourth Member Representative Conference and 2013 Academic Annual Meeting of the China Atheism Society was convened in Beijing from August 18 to 19. Zhu Weiqun, Director of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Deng Chundong, Dean and Party Secretary of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered an address on behalf of the supervising institution. Responsible persons from the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Ministry of Education, and the State Administration for Religious Affairs attended the opening ceremony. Zhang Xinying, Vice President of the Society, presided over the meeting. Xi Wuyi, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Society and Research Fellow at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, presented the work report of the Third Council to the conference. The conference elected the Fourth Council of the China Atheism Society, and Zhu Xiaoming, former Party Secretary of the China Tibetology Research Center and Research Fellow, was elected President. This conference was jointly hosted by the China Atheism Society and the Research Center for Science and Atheism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, with the theme "The Historical Mission of Carrying Forward the Cause of Scientific Atheism." More than 80 experts and scholars from institutions of higher education, research units, and Party and government departments engaged in earnest and lively discussions on topics including the relationship between the cause of scientific atheism and the realization of the Chinese Dream [1]1 The Chinese Dream (中国梦) is a political slogan introduced by Xi Jinping, the system and disciplinary construction of scientific atheism, atheism education and the guiding role of Marxism in the ideological domain, the significance of an atheist worldview for maintaining the Party's advanced nature and purity [2], methods and pathways for atheist research and propaganda education, achievements in natural science and the development of the scientific spirit and atheist thought, the current situation and prospects of domestic and international religious trends, and ideas and suggestions for resisting and utilizing infiltration through religion.
