2014 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education Held in Chengdu

From June 7 to 8, the “2014 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education” was successfully held at Sichuan University. The symposium was jointly sponsored by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Sichuan University, and jointly organized by the Ideological and Political Education Research Office of the Department of Marxist Principles Research of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Sichuan University. It was co-organized by *Marxist Studies*, *Social Sciences in Chinese Higher Education*, *Ideological and Political Education Research*, *Party Building and Ideological Education in Schools*, and the *Journal of Sichuan University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)*. Leaders and experts attending the opening ceremony included Deng Chundong, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Yang He, Director of the Social Sciences Development Research Center of the Ministry of Education and Editor-in-Chief of *Social Sciences in Chinese Higher Education*; Tang Yongjin, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Federation of Social Sciences; Li Guanghua, Member of the Education Work Committee of the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee; Yang Quanming, Secretary of the Party Committee of Sichuan University; Xu Lan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Sichuan University; Ye Baisen, Vice President of Yangzhou University; Xiang Huaquan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Zigong Municipal Party Committee and Head of the Propaganda Department; Chen Binggong, Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Administration of Jilin University; and Yu Bin, Deputy Director of the Department of Marxist Principles Research of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Also present were journalists from Xinhua News Agency, *Guangming Daily*, *Chinese Social Sciences Today*, and more than one hundred representatives from universities and research institutes across the country. The opening ceremony was presided over by Jiang Yongmu, Dean of the School of Marxism of Sichuan University. The theme of the symposium was “Ideological and Political Education and the Cultivation and Practice of Core Socialist Values.”

6月7至8日，“2014年全国思想政治教育学术研讨会”在四川大学成功举行。研讨会由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院和四川大学联合主办，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义原理研究部思想政治教育研究室和四川大学马克思主义学院联合承办，《马克思主义研究》、《中国高校社会科学》、《思想政治教育研究》、《学校党建与思想教育》、《四川大学学报（哲学社会科学版）》协办。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院党委书记、院长邓纯东，教育部高等学校社会科学发展研究中心主任、《中国高校社会科学》总编杨河，四川省社科联副主席唐永进，四川省委教育工委委员李光华，四川大学党委书记杨泉明，四川大学党委副书记、纪委书记徐兰，扬州大学副校长叶柏森，中共四川自贡市委常委、宣传部部长向华全，吉林大学行政学院博士生导师陈秉公，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义原理研究部副主任余斌等领导和专家，新华社、光明日报、中国社会科学报等媒体记者，以及来自全国各地高校和科研院所的百余名代表出席开幕式。开幕式由四川大学马克思主义学院院长蒋永穆主持。研讨会的主题是“思想政治教育与培育和践行社会主义核心价值观”。

More than 150 experts and scholars in the field of ideological and political education from 96 universities and research institutes across the country, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Beijing Normal University, Jilin University, Nankai University, Wuhan University, Sichuan University, Central China Normal University, China University of Political Science and Law, Northeast Normal University, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Southwest Jiaotong University, and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges around the conference theme. These were carried out from the perspectives of “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Research on Ideological and Political Education,” “Ideology and Ideological and Political Work Issues,” “Core Socialist Values and Ideological and Political Education,” “Teaching Reform of Ideological and Political Theory Courses,” and “New Media and Strategies and Methods for Ideological and Political Education.”

来自中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、复旦大学、南京大学、北京师范大学、吉林大学、南开大学、武汉大学、四川大学、华中师范大学、中国政法大学、东北师范大学、电子科技大学、西南交通大学、西南财经大学等全国96所高校以及科研院所思想政治教育领域的150余名专家学者，围绕会议主题，分别从“中国特色社会主义与思想政治教育研究”、“意识形态与思想政治工作问题”、“社会主义核心价值观与思想政治教育”、“思想政治理论课教学改革”、“新媒体与思想政治教育方法策略应对”等方面展开深入研讨与交流。

Deng Chundong delivered a keynote report, comprehensively elaborating on the necessity, practical significance, main tasks, methods, and pathways of conducting in-depth education on core socialist values. He emphasized that cultivating and practicing core socialist values must adhere to the guiding position of Marxism. Against the backdrop of the complex environment of the socialist market economy, unprecedented intensification of globalization, and the rapid development of new media, it is even more necessary to use Marxist theory to guide the work of the entire Party, enhance the identification of all people with socialism with Chinese characteristics, and promote the great cause of the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He pointed out that to promote the healthy development of the socialist market economy and the comprehensive progress of the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics, it is necessary to forge a scientific core set of values recognized by the whole society. Both Chinese and foreign history prove that ideological security is an important factor related to a country’s prosperity and a nation’s rise or fall. Under socialist conditions, the guiding position of Marxist theory in China’s ideology is clearly stipulated in the Party Constitution, and the Constitution also stipulates the guiding role of Marxism in the national life of our country. The key to exerting the guiding role of Marxist theory in cultivating and practicing core socialist values lies in implementation. We should make more efforts to implement the guiding position and role of Marxism in the entire Party and the whole society as stipulated by the Constitution.

邓纯东作了主题报告，针对深入开展社会主义核心价值观教育的必要性、实践意义、主要任务、方法与途径等问题进行了全面阐述。他强调，培育和践行社会主义核心价值观，必须坚持马克思主义的指导地位。在社会主义市场经济的复杂环境和全球化空前加剧、新媒体快速发展的时代背景下，更加需要用马克思主义理论指导全党工作，增强全体人民对中国特色社会主义的认同，促进中华民族复兴的伟大事业。他指出，要促进社会主义市场经济的健康发展，促进中国特色社会主义事业全面进步，必须铸造全社会认可的、科学的核心价值观。中外历史都证明，意识形态安全是关系到一个国家繁荣昌盛和民族兴衰成败的重要因素。在社会主义条件下，马克思主义理论在我国意识形态中的指导地位在党章中得以明确，宪法也规定了马克思主义在我国国家生活中的指导作用。发挥马克思主义理论在培育和践行社会主义核心价值观中的指导作用，关键在于落实。我们应该在落实宪法规定的马克思主义在全党全社会的指导地位和作用等方面作出更多的努力。

At the symposium, Professor Chen Binggong, Doctoral Supervisor of the School of Marxism of Jilin University; Professor Yan Gang of the School of Marxism of Sichuan University; and Associate Researcher Zhu Xikun, Deputy Director of the Party Building and Ideological and Political Research Division of the Social Sciences Development Research Center of the Ministry of Education, delivered speeches at the plenary session. Researcher Yu Bin, Deputy Director of the Department of Principles of the Academy of Marxism, gave a special report. All members of the Ideological and Political Education Research Office of the Department of Principles participated in the symposium and spoke in group discussions.

研讨会上，吉林大学马克思主义学院博士生导师陈秉公教授、四川大学马克思主义学院阎钢教授、教育部高校社会科学发展研究中心党建思政研究处副处长朱喜坤副研究员等作了大会发言。马研院原理部副主任余斌研究员作了专题报告，原理部思想政治教育研究室全体成员参加了本次研讨会，并在小组讨论中发言。
