Adjustment of the Main Leadership of the Academy of Marxism

On the morning of August 1, 2013, the Academy of Marxism held a plenary meeting. Li Jie, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, announced: Based on the decision made at the Academy’s executive meeting on June 20, 2013, Comrade Deng Chundong is appointed as President of the Academy of Marxism, and Comrade Cheng Enfu is relieved of the post of President of the Academy of Marxism.

2013年8月1日上午，马研院召开全体人员会议，中国社科院副院长李捷到会宣布：根据2013年6月20日社科院院务会议研究决定，任命邓纯东同志为马克思主义研究院院长，免去程恩富同志的马克思主义研究院院长职务。

Comrade Li Jie pointed out that, due to age, Comrade Cheng Enfu is stepping down from the leadership post. Comrade Cheng Enfu was transferred to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in October 2005, participated in the establishment of the Academy of Marxism, and successively served as Executive Vice President and President; after the establishment of the Marxism Studies Faculty, he also served as its Director. Over nearly eight years of active pioneering and innovative construction, the Academy of Marxism has achieved significant results in all aspects, becoming an important force for the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in fulfilling the central authorities’ requirement of the “Three Orientations.”[1]1 The “Three Orientations” (三个定位) refer to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ positioning as the Marxist theoretical stronghold, the think tank of the Party and the state, and the highest academic institution in philosophy and social sciences. Comrade Cheng Enfu fulfilled his duties in his post and made important contributions to the Academy of Marxism.

李捷同志指出，由于年龄关系，程恩富同志退出领导岗位。程恩富同志2005年10月份调入中国社会科学院，参与组建马克思主义研究院的工作，并先后担任常务副院长、院长；组建马研学部后，还一直担任着学部主任。马克思主义研究院经过近八年积极的开拓和创新建设，各方面都取得了很大的成绩，成为我们中国社会科学院实现中央“三个定位”要求的一支重要力量。程恩富同志在本职岗位上尽职尽责，为马克思主义研究院作出了重要的贡献。

Comrade Li Jie pointed out that Comrade Deng Chundong has high political quality, a strong sense of Party spirit, and a high degree of political acumen. He has a high level of theoretical and professional competence, clear thinking in work, strong execution ability, and a strong capacity for pioneering and innovation. He has a rich resume of posts, strong leadership and organizational coordination skills. He is good at managing the leadership team and leading the ranks, and in his work he earnestly implements democratic centralism, does not practice “one-man rule,”[2]2 “One-man rule” (一言堂) is a Chinese political idiom meaning a leadership style where one person makes all decisions without consulting others, in violation of democratic centralism. and sets a good example within the leadership team. Considering the actual situation of the Academy of Marxism and Comrade Deng Chundong’s personal performance, the executive meeting decided: Comrade Deng Chundong is appointed as President of the Academy of Marxism. It is hoped that Comrade Deng Chundong will continue to make further efforts and lead the Academy of Marxism in carrying out all work well.

李捷同志指出，邓纯东同志政治素质高，党性观念强，具有较高的政治敏锐性。他理论水平和业务素质高，工作中思路清晰，执行力强，具有较强的开拓创新能力。他任职履历丰富，具有较强的领导能力和组织协调能力。他善于抓班子、带队伍，工作中能认真执行民主集中制，不搞一言堂，在班子中做到很好的表率作用。考虑到马克思主义研究院的实际情况和邓纯东同志的个人表现，院务会议决定：邓纯东同志任马克思主义研究院院长。希望邓纯东同志今后能够再接再厉，带领马克思主义研究院做好各项工作。

After the adjustment, Comrade Deng Chundong serves as Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Academy of Marxism; Comrade Cheng Enfu continues to serve as Director of the Marxism Studies Faculty.

调整后，邓纯东同志任克思主义研究院党委书记、院长；程恩富同志继续担任马克思主义研究学部主任职务。
