He pointed out that this forum was convened against the backdrop of implementing the spirit of the 18th National Congress of the CPC [1]1 The 18th National Congress of the CPC was held in November 2012. It marked the beginning of the New Era under Xi Jinping’s leadership and formally established the goal of the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. and promoting the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the Chinese Dream. At the National Conference on Propaganda and Ideological Work on 19 August this year, General Secretary Xi Jinping delivered an important speech. Studying the spirit of General Secretary Xi’s “8·19” speech is of great significance for the future and destiny of the Party and the country, and for the realization of the great Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation. In this regard, comrades in the Marxist theoretical field bear a solemn historical mission. We must be aware of this responsibility and mission, work hard, and especially strengthen efforts in the following areas: first, we must change the situation of “one hand being hard, the other soft” [2]2 “One hand being hard, the other soft” refers to a perceived imbalance in Party work, where economic development (the “hard” hand) is prioritized over ideological and cultural work (the “soft” hand), a criticism often directed at local officials. and vigorously promote placing the consolidation of Marxism’s guiding position in ideology in an important place across the entire Party; second, we must carry forward the Party’s fine tradition of organizing and mobilizing the masses and propagating among them, and increase the intensity of education for the masses on Marxism and its achievements in adapting to the Chinese context; third, we must further deepen the adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese context and promote theoretical innovation in socialism with Chinese characteristics; fourth, we must strive to build a contingent of ideological, theoretical, and cultural workers guided by Marxism.
