“What Is Socialism with Chinese Characteristics?” Press Conference Held in Beijing

On 12 April 2013, the “Seminar on the ‘Going Global’ of the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and the Publication Symposium for *What Is Socialism with Chinese Characteristics?* (Chinese and English)” was held in Beijing, co-hosted by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Hunan People’s Publishing House. More than fifty experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Beijing Language and Culture University, Inner Mongolia University, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, and the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee attended the meeting. Comrade Li Shenming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech at the meeting; Professor Cheng Enfu, Director of the Academic Division of Marxism and Director of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Editor-in-Chief Xie Qingfeng of Hunan People’s Publishing House delivered addresses respectively. Li Jingwen, Zhao Zhikui, Li Qiqing, Kong Genhong, Xin Xiangyang, Xiao Guiqing, Guo Jianning, Zheng Chengjun, Gong Yun, Hu Richa, Li Jianguo, Liu Zixu and others attended the meeting and delivered speeches respectively. The meeting was chaired by Researcher Jin Minqing, head of the Department of Research on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context, and He Xinyuan, director of the Office of the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, both of the Institute of Marxism.

2013年4月12日，由中国社科院马克思主义研究院和湖南人民出版社共同主办的“中国特色社会主义理论‘走出去’研讨会暨《什么是中国特色社会主义？》（中英文）出版座谈会”在北京举行。来自中国社科院、北京大学、清华大学、中国人民大学、北京语言大学、内蒙古大学、国家新闻出版广电总局、中联部、中央编译局、中央文献研究室等单位的50多位专家学者参会。中国社科院党组副书记、副院长李慎明同志与会作主旨讲话；中国社科院马克思主义研究学部主任、马克思主义研究院院长程恩富教授，湖南人民出版社社长谢清风编审分别致辞。李京文、赵智奎、李其庆、孔根红、辛向阳、肖贵清、郭建宁、郑承军、龚云、胡日查、李建国、刘子旭等出席会议并分别发言。会议由马研院马克思主义中国化研究部负责人金民卿研究员和中特理论室主任贺新元主持。

Participants unanimously agreed that Marxism belongs to all humanity, and that the cause of Marxism is not merely the cause of one country but the cause of all humanity. Marxism adapted to the Chinese context is both Chinese and global. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, as the highest temple of social science research, a strong bastion of Marxism, and the think tank and brain trust of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, should naturally make its due contribution to the “going global” of the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

与会者一致认为，马克思主义是属于全人类的，马克思主义事业不仅仅是一个国家的事业，而且是全人类的事业。中国化马克思主义既是中国的，也是世界的。中国社科院作为社会科学研究的最高殿堂、马克思主义的坚强阵地、党中央和国务院的思想库智囊团，理应对中国特色社会主义理论“走出去”作出自己应有的贡献。
