Vice-Presidents Zhao Shengxuan and Wu Yin Conduct Research Visit to the Academy of Marxism

On the afternoon of May 23, 2013, Zhao Shengxuan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice-President (at the ministerial level) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, together with Wu Yin, member of the Academy’s Party Leadership Group and Vice-President, accompanied by Office Director Shi He’an and others, conducted a research visit to the Academy of Marxism to understand the Academy’s implementation of the spirit of the CASS work conference and the progress of the Innovation Project.

2013年5月23日下午，中国社科院党组副书记、副院长（正部长级）赵胜轩和院党组成员、副院长武寅在办公厅施鹤安主任等的陪同下，来马研院调研，了解马研院贯彻落实社科院工作会议精神和创新工程实施情况。

Deng Chundong, Party Secretary of the Academy of Marxism, Vice-President Fan Jianxin, and department heads Hu Leming, Liu Shuchun, Xu Wenhua, among others, attended the research meeting. Party Secretary Deng Chundong reported on the Academy of Marxism’s implementation of the spirit of the CASS work conference, particularly regarding the Innovation Project.

马研院党委书记邓纯东、副院长樊建新以及部门负责人胡乐明、刘淑春、徐文华等参加调研会议。邓纯东书记汇报了马研院贯彻落实社科院工作会议精神尤其是创新工程有关情况。

After hearing the report, Vice-President Zhao Shengxuan emphasized the following points.

听取汇报后，赵胜轩副院长强调以下几点。

First, regarding Marxist theoretical research and propaganda. (1) In the field of Marxist research, there are many institutions and departments nationwide with considerable strength. The Academy of Marxism must strive to secure a place in the country and aim to become the leading unit; (2) research must be integrated with practice; (3) how to make Marxist propaganda suitable for the masses and how to influence the masses is a major issue, and the task in this regard is very heavy.

第一，关于马克思主义理论研究和宣传。（1）在马克思主义研究方面，全国有很多实力很强的机构和部门，马研院要通过努力，在全国有一席之地，并力争成为龙头单位；（2）研究要结合实际；（3）马克思主义宣传要学会如何适合大众、如何影响大众，是个大问题，这方面任务很重。

Second, regarding the Innovation Project. The Innovation Project is a major opportunity, essentially an innovation in mechanisms. The Academy has its regulations, and research institutes can also formulate their own in light of actual conditions to implement them better. The ultimate goal is to mobilize enthusiasm and produce high-quality works, not simply an increase in quantity.

第二，关于创新工程。创新工程是个重大机遇，实质上是机制的创新。院里有制度，研究所也可以结合实际制订，以执行得更好，最终是要调动积极性，出精品力作，而不是单纯的量的增加。

Third, strengthen the building of the leadership team. The construction of a unit must first rely on its leadership team; a train runs fast because of the locomotive pulling it.

第三，加强班子建设。单位建设首先要靠班子，火车跑得快，要靠车头带。

Fourth, leverage the advantages of ideological and political work. To do work well, a good system is a necessary condition but not a sufficient one; we must also add the advantages of our ideological and political work.

第四，发挥思想政治工作优势。做好工作，好的制度是必要条件但不是充分条件，还要加上我们的思想政治工作优势。

Vice-President Wu Yin pointed out that, in accordance with the requirements of Vice-President Zhao Shengxuan, the leadership team of the Academy of Marxism must strive to be a benchmark for the entire Academy, and the Academy of Marxism must strive to be a benchmark for the entire country.

武寅副院长指出，根据赵胜轩副院长的要求，马研院领导班子要努力做全院的标杆，马研院要努力做全国的标杆。
