The Fourth Forum on “Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context” and the Academic Symposium on “Mao Zedong and Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context” Held in Changchun

The year 2013 marks the 120th anniversary of Mao Zedong’s birth. To advance the study of Mao Zedong Thought and the adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese context, the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, together with the School of Marxism of Jilin University, held the Fourth Forum on “Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context” at Jilin University on August 16, with the theme “Mao Zedong and Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context.” Li Jie, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended and delivered a speech; Chen Dewen, Party Secretary of Jilin University, delivered a welcome address; Deng Chundong, Party Secretary and President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered an address; Jin Minqing, head of the Department of Research on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a keynote speech; Han Xiping, Dean of the School of Marxism of Jilin University, presided over the meeting. A total of 60 experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Renmin University of China, Jilin University, Capital University of Economics and Business, and other units attended the conference. At the symposium, scholars engaged in lively discussions on topics including Mao Zedong’s historical status, Mao Zedong’s historical contributions to adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, Mao Zedong and the opening up of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, how to evaluate the relationship between Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, how to evaluate the two historical periods before and after reform and opening up, the historical process and basic experience of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, and foreign studies of Mao Zedong.
