On March 23, Comrade Liu Yandong Conducts Research at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Director and Party Secretary of the Academy of Marxism Deng Chundong Attends Symposium and Reports on Relevant Work

On the afternoon of March 23, 2017, Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, emphasized during a research symposium at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences that it is necessary to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches, adhere to the guidance of Marxism, establish a people-centered research orientation, closely focus on resolving the major theoretical and practical issues facing China’s development and our Party’s governance, and make new contributions to accelerating the construction of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.

2017年3月23日下午，中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理刘延东在中国社会科学院调研座谈时强调，要深入学习贯彻习近平总书记系列重要讲话精神，坚持以马克思主义为指导，树立以人民为中心的研究导向，紧紧围绕解决我国发展和我们党执政面临的重大理论和实践问题，为加快构建中国特色哲学社会科学再立新功。

Liu Yandong visited the academy’s think tank exhibition and the history museum of the Graduate School, and convened a symposium to hear opinions and suggestions. She pointed out that over the 40 years since its founding, the academy has adhered to the correct direction, continuously blazed new trails, and made important contributions in consolidating the Marxist position, perfecting the disciplinary system of philosophy and social sciences, serving the decision-making of the Party and government as well as economic and social development, and enhancing China’s international discourse power and influence.

刘延东参观了社科院智库展和研究生院校史馆，召开座谈会听取意见建议。她指出，社科院建院40年来，坚持正确方向，不断开拓创新，在巩固马克思主义阵地、完善哲学社会科学学科体系、服务党和政府决策与经济社会发展、提升我国国际话语权和影响力等方面作出了重要贡献。

Liu Yandong emphasized that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences Work is a programmatic document of far-reaching significance, opening a new historical chapter in the development of philosophy and social sciences. The vast number of philosophy and social sciences workers should deeply study and comprehend it, effectively transform it into firm convictions and pursuits, clear theoretical self-awareness, scientific methods of thinking, and outstanding work achievements, implement it in the practice of constructing philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, produce more research results that can withstand the test of practice, the people, and history, and open up new realms for the development of 21st-century Marxism.

刘延东强调，习近平总书记在哲学社会科学工作座谈会上的重要讲话是具有深远意义的纲领性文献，翻开了哲学社会科学事业发展的历史新篇章。广大哲学社会科学工作者要深入学习领会，切实转化为坚定的信念追求、清醒的理论自觉、科学的思维方法、卓越的工作业绩，落实在构建中国特色哲学社会科学的实践中，推出更多经得起实践、人民、历史检验的研究成果，开辟21世纪马克思主义发展新境界。

Liu Yandong pointed out that contemporary China is undergoing extensive and profound social changes and practical creations, providing powerful impetus and broad space for academic prosperity and innovation. It is necessary to adhere to the correct direction and orientation, run the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics through the entire process of research, and build a strong position for Marxism. It is necessary to focus on the requirement of “rooted in China, drawing on foreign experience, excavating history, grasping the contemporary, caring for humanity, and facing the future,” give full play to the platform role of the innovation project, and construct a disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner, cultivate great theorists, and produce fine works. It is necessary to adhere to a high-end positioning, innovate mechanisms, closely integrate with China’s reform and development practice, summarize new experiences, refine new viewpoints, construct new theories, build new-type think tanks with Chinese characteristics, and become an important think tank and brain trust for the Party Central Committee and the State Council. It is necessary to conscientiously implement the Party’s policy toward intellectuals, improve measures for talent selection, training, evaluation, and incentives, transform academic and faculty advantages into teaching advantages, promote the continuous growth of outstanding talent, enable the vast number of philosophy and social sciences workers to fully utilize their wisdom and talent, and make due contributions in establishing virtue and establishing words for the motherland and the people.

刘延东指出，当代中国正经历着广泛而深刻的社会变革和实践创造，为学术繁荣与创新提供了强大动力和广阔空间。要坚持正确的方向导向，把中国特色社会主义理论体系贯穿研究全过程，筑牢马克思主义的坚强阵地。要围绕“立足中国、借鉴国外，挖掘历史、把握当代，关怀人类、面向未来”的要求，发挥好创新工程的平台作用，构建有中国特色、中国风格、中国气派的哲学社会科学学科体系、学术体系、话语体系，造就理论大家，产出精品力作。要坚持高端定位，创新机制，紧密结合我国改革发展实践，总结新经验、凝炼新观点、构建新理论，建设中国特色新型智库，成为党中央国务院重要的思想库和智囊团。要认真贯彻党的知识分子政策，完善人才遴选、培养、评价、激励措施，把学术和师资优势转化为教学优势，促进优秀人才不断成长，使广大哲学社会科学工作者充分发挥才智，在为祖国和人民立德立言中作出应有贡献。

Deng Chundong, director and Party secretary of the Academy of Marxism, reported at the symposium on the relevant work of the Academy of Marxism. Deng Chundong introduced that since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Academy of Marxism has always adhered to one main line, namely, taking the study, interpretation, publicity, and implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches and the new concepts, new ideas, and new strategies for governing the country as its primary work. The Academy of Marxism focuses on two positions entrusted by the Party group: the bridgehead of the strong position of Marxism and the vanguard of the Party’s ideological stronghold; it strives to achieve the research and publicity of Marxism, serve as a think tank for the Party and state decision-making, and fulfill other functions entrusted by the Party group.

马克思主义研究院院长、党委书记邓纯东在座谈会上汇报了马克思主义研究院工作的有关情况。邓纯东介绍说：党的十八大以来，马研院始终坚持一条主线，即把研究、阐释、宣传、落实习近平总书记系列重要讲话精神和治国理政新理念新思想新战略作为第一位的工作。马研院聚焦院党组赋予的两个定位：马克思主义坚强阵地的桥头堡和党的意识形态重镇的排头兵；努力实现好研究、宣传马克思主义，充当好党和国家决策的智库，履行院党组赋予的其他职能。
