On August 30, 2017, the academic symposium with the theme “Socialism in Developing Countries: History, Current Situation, and Prospects” was convened at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. This symposium was jointly hosted by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Research Office of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, organized by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and co-sponsored by the innovation project “Research on Socialism in Asian, African, and Latin American Countries and Regions” led by Researcher Pan Jin’e of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the research project led by Researcher Chai Shangjin of the Research Office of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC. Researcher Deng Chundong, President and Party Secretary of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a speech. In his remarks, he fully affirmed the great significance of the symposium’s theme, expressing the hope that through exchanges among scholars, the latest achievements and characteristics of the contemporary world socialist movement and construction would be fully presented to society, that beneficial suggestions would be offered for establishing friendly cooperative relations between China and developing countries, and that confidence in the system, confidence in the path, and confidence in the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics would be strengthened. 2017年8月30日，主题为“发展中国家社会主义：历史、现状与前景”的学术研讨会在中国社会科学院召开。本次会议由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院与中共中央对外联络部研究室联合主办，中国社科院马研院国际共产主义运动研究部承办，由中国社科院马研院潘金娥研究员主持的创新工程项目“亚非拉国家和地区社会主义研究”和中联部研究室柴尚金研究员主持的研究项目共同发起。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院院长、书记邓纯东研究员致辞，他在发言中充分肯定了会议主题的重要意义，希望通过学者们的交流，向社会充分展示当今世界社会主义运动和建设的最新成果和特征，为我国与发展中国家建立友好合作关系提出有益的建议，并增强中国特色社会主义的制度自信、道路自信和理论自信。

Researcher Chai Shangjin, Bureau-Level Counselor of the Research Office of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC; Researcher Xu Shicheng, Honorary Academic Division Member of the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Hu Zhenliang of the Department of Scientific Socialism Teaching and Research of the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC; Professor Cao Changsheng of the School of International Studies of Peking University; Professor Pu Guoliang of Renmin University of China; and leading cadres from relevant bureaus of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC attended the symposium and delivered reports. Approximately 50 experts and scholars specializing in the study of world socialism from institutions inside and outside Beijing, including the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang Normal University, Shandong Normal University, and Yunnan Agricultural University, participated in the symposium.

中共中央对外联络部研究室局级参赞柴尚金研究员、中国社会科学院拉丁美洲研究所荣誉学部委员徐世澄研究员、中共中央党校科学社会主义教研部胡振良教授、北京大学国际关系学院曹长盛教授、中国人民大学蒲国良教授以及中联部各相关局领导出席会议并做报告。来自中共中央对外联络部、中央编译局、中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、北京大学、清华大学、武汉大学、浙江师范大学、山东师范大学、云南农业大学等京内外机构约50名研究世界社会主义的专家学者参加了研讨会。

Over 20 participating experts delivered speeches on topics including “Socialism in Developing Countries and Related Issues in Its Disciplinary Research,” “Socialism in Vietnam, Cuba, North Korea, and Laos: Theory and Practice,” “New Developments in the Socialist Movement in Other Asian Countries and Regions,” and “The History and Characteristics of the Socialist Movement in Africa and Latin America.” The experts fully affirmed the theoretical value and practical significance of studying the socialist movement in developing countries. In his summary of the symposium, Researcher Chai Shangjin stated: “As far as I know, this is the first time a dedicated thematic discussion has been held specifically on socialism in developing countries. The issues discussed at the symposium were comprehensive, focused, and highly meaningful. Although many issues concerning the development of socialism in developing countries were touched upon, all discussions centered on the major questions of the reality, future, and destiny of socialism. The content of the experts’ and scholars’ speeches presented the latest situation of the socialist movement in developing countries, broadened the horizon for deepening future research on socialist issues in developing countries, and offered many valuable reflections on exchanges and cooperation between socialism with Chinese characteristics and world socialism, providing important reference value.”

20余位与会专家围绕“发展中国家的社会主义及其学科研究相关问题”、“越南、古巴、朝鲜和老挝社会主义：理论与实践”、“其他亚洲国家和地区的社会主义运动的新进展”和“非洲和拉美地区社会主义运动的历史和特征”等主题做了发言。专家们充分肯定了研究发展中国家社会主义运动的理论价值和现实意义。柴尚金研究员在总结研讨会时表示：据我了解，这是第一次专门就发展中国家的社会主义进行了专题研讨，会议讨论的问题全面、集中而且非常有意义。虽说涉及发展中国家社会主义发展中的诸多问题，但都聚焦于社会主义的现实、前途命运重大问题。专家学者的发言内容展示了发展中国家社会主义运动的最新情况，为今后深化研究发展中国家社会主义问题开拓了视野，而且对中国特色社会主义与世界社会主义的交流与合作提出了很多有益的思考，具有重要参考价值。
