October 11: The Fifth "China Road Europe Forum" (Spain Session) Convened in Valencia

On October 11, the "2018 China Road Europe Forum (Spain Session)" was convened in Valencia. This forum was co-hosted by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Spanish "Casa Asia," and co-organized by the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, the Galician International Institute for Analysis and Documentation of Spain, the Valencia City Hall of Spain, and the Confucius Institute at the University of Valencia of Spain. The theme of this forum was "China's Plan and European Development in the New Era." Deng Chundong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Carles Padilla, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation at the University of Valencia; David Navarro, President of "Casa Asia" of Spain; Daniel González Palau, Director of the Galician International Institute for Analysis and Documentation of Spain; and Julio Omos, Director General of the Department for Regional Economic Sustainable Development of the Valencia City Government of Spain, delivered addresses. Sandra Gómez, Deputy Mayor of Valencia, gave the concluding remarks of the conference.

Deng Chundong pointed out that the high level of representation of the Spanish delegates attending the forum reflected Spain's great importance attached to the forum, and expressed three hopes for the forum to achieve positive outcomes. First, to conduct discussions centered on the "China Road," objectively presenting the real situation of China's economic, political, cultural, social, and ecological progress in recent years, so that all sectors of Spanish society can understand the real China. Second, the forum's discussions should serve the economic and social development and exchange and cooperation between China and Spain; academia should actively build bridges and contribute wisdom to promote the realization of the strategic vision of China-Europe cooperation. Third, to actively explore major international events and topics concerning the destiny of all humanity, and propose feasible response plans, making positive contributions to building a more just and reasonable international economic order.

邓纯东指出西班牙出席论坛的代表规格高，体现出西班牙对论坛的高度重视，并对论坛取得积极成果表达了三个希望，一是围绕"中国道路"进行研讨，客观介绍近年来中国经济政治文化社会及生态文明等发展进步的真实情况，让西班牙社会各界了解真实的中国；二是论坛研讨服务于中西经济社会的发展与交流合作，学术界应积极搭建桥梁、贡献智慧促进中欧合作战略构想的实现；三是积极探讨关系世界人类命运的重大国际事件和话题，并提出可行应对方案，为构建更加公正合理的国际经济秩序做出积极贡献。

Carles Padilla, David Navarro, Daniel González Palau, and Julio Omos unanimously agreed in their addresses that in recent years, the friendly relations between China and Spain have grown day by day, with continuous exchanges and interactions. China's rise on the international stage has brought multiple development opportunities to European countries. Deepening cooperation between China and Europe in various fields in the future will be the direction for achieving common development between China and Europe. Furthermore, through sincere dialogue and cooperation between China and Europe, they should jointly respond to various challenges from the international community and strive for the prosperity and peace of the world.

At this forum, experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, the Institute of Party History and Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC, Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, Dalian University of Technology, Shandong Normal University, and Jiangsu Normal University delivered special-topic speeches, focusing on the political and economic challenges facing the European Union, China's reform and opening up, new focal points in China-Europe cooperation, global challenges from the perspectives of China and Europe, and the "Belt and Road Initiative" as a bridge for China-Europe cooperation. Nearly one hundred experts and scholars from China and Spain attended the forum.

本届论坛上，来自中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、中央党史和文献研究院、山东社会科学院、大连理工大学、山东师范大学、江苏师范大学等的专家学者进行了专题发言，重点研讨了欧盟面临的政治经济挑战和中国改革开放、中欧合作的新焦点、中国与欧洲视野下的全球挑战、“一带一路”与中欧合作的桥梁等议题。中西两国近一百位专家学者出席了论坛。

The "China Path European Forum" was founded in 2014, aiming to strengthen China-Europe academic exchanges, increase European society's understanding of China, and promote friendship and cooperation between the two sides.
