October 13: Party Secretary and Dean Deng Chundong Meets Leaders of the Italian Communist Party and the Party of Italian Communists

On October 13, 2018, Deng Chundong, Party Secretary and Dean of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, met in Bologna, Italy, with Bruno Steri, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Italian Communist Party, and Francesco Ferari, Head of the External Relations Department of the Party of Italian Communists. The Chinese side participating in the meeting included Professor Wang Binglin, Director of the Center for Social Science Research Development of the Ministry of Education; Professor Zhao Zhongyuan, Dean of the School of Marxism at Guangzhou University; Professor Zhou Lisheng, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangxi Normal University; Professor Wang Tingyou, School of Marxism at Renmin University of China; He Xinyuan, Deputy Director of the Research Department of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and Chen Airu, Editorial Director of the *National Development Strategy Research* (Russian-language journal) of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The Italian side participating in the meeting included relevant leaders and some Party members of the Italian Communist Party and the Party of Italian Communists.

Deng Chundong pointed out that the “China Road Europe Forum” has been held since 2014, and Italian communists have provided great assistance to the successful convening of each forum over the past five years. Italian communists have given full recognition and affirmation to the leadership of the Communist Party of China and to the China road. The Chinese side expresses sincere gratitude for this.

邓纯东指出，“中国道路欧洲论坛”自2014年开始召开，意大利共产党人对五年来历届论坛的成功召开给予了很大的帮助。意大利共产党人对中国共产党的领导、对中国道路给予充分的认可和肯定，中方对此表达诚挚的谢意。

Bruno Steri, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Italian Communist Party, and Francesco Ferari, Head of the External Relations Department of the Party of Italian Communists, pointed out that China has chosen the correct development path, and the Communist Party of China has led the Chinese people to achieve great accomplishments in socialist construction. This is worthy of study by the Italian Communist Party and the Party of Italian Communists. The Italian communist ranks are in a state of fragmentation, with multiple communist parties coexisting, mainly due to internal differences within the communist movement. Moreover, in present-day Italy, the communist parties have focused their energy on seeking more votes, rather than on strengthening their own Party building, have not seriously summed up the experiences and lessons of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, and have not introduced concrete measures to attract young people to join the communist parties. They hope to improve in the future.

意大利共产党中央书记处书记布鲁诺·斯特里、意大利重建共产党对外联络部负责人弗朗克·费拉利指出，中国选择了正确的发展道路，中国共产党领导中国人民取得伟大的社会主义建设成就。这值得意大利共产党和意大利重建共产党学习。意大利共产党人队伍呈现分裂状态，有多个共产党并存，原因主要在于共产党内部存在分歧；另外，在当前的意大利，共产党把精力放在了谋求获取更多的选票上，而没有立足于加强自身的党建，没有认真总结苏联解体的经验和教训，也没有出台具体的举措吸引年轻人参加共产党，希望今后能够改进。
