Party Secretary and President Deng Chundong Holds Talks with the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party in Lisbon, Portugal

On the evening of October 8, 2018, Deng Chundong, Party Secretary and President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, held talks in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, with Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist Party. The two sides engaged in in-depth and warm exchanges on topics of common interest, including China’s policy direction after the 19th National Congress of the CPC [1]1 The 19th National Congress of the CPC was held in October 2017, where Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was enshrined in the Party Constitution., the history and current organizational status of the Portuguese Communist Party, China-Europe relations, and the regional situation.

2018年10月8日晚间，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院党委书记、院长邓纯东在葡萄牙首都里斯本，与葡萄牙共产党中央总书记热罗尼莫•德索萨举行了会谈。双方就中共十九大以后中国的政策走向、葡萄牙共产党的历史与组织现状、中欧关系及地区形势等共同关心的话题，进行了深入而热烈的交流。

Party Secretary Deng Chundong expressed admiration for the historical contributions made by the Portuguese Communist Party, as a traditional European communist party, to democracy, development, and progress in Europe, and conveyed a good wish to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchanges. Jerónimo de Sousa, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist Party, expressed gratitude and congratulations for the efforts of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in organizing the 2018 “China Path” European Forum (Portugal venue) and for the excellent presentations made by Chinese scholars at the forum.

邓纯东书记对葡萄牙共产党作为一支欧洲传统共产主义政党，为欧洲民主、发展与进步做出的历史贡献表示钦佩，并表达了进一步加强双边合作和交流的良好愿望。葡萄牙共产党中央总书记热罗尼莫•德索萨对中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院为筹办2018“中国道路”欧洲论坛（葡萄牙会场）付出的辛劳及中国学者在论坛上的精彩讲演，表达了感谢和祝贺。

Pedro Guerreiro, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of the International Department of the Portuguese Communist Party, Luís Carapinha, executive member of the International Department of the Portuguese Communist Party, He Xinyuan, researcher at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Xu Baoyou, researcher at the Institute of Party History and Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC, and Yuan Guangde, Deputy Party Secretary of Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics, also participated in the meeting.
