October 21–26: Vice President Jin Minqing of the Academy of Marxism Leads Delegation on Visit and Investigation in Germany

From October 21 to 26, 2018, in order to promote academic exchange on Marxism, a six-person delegation led by Researcher Jin Minqing, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, successively visited and investigated Trier, Cologne, and Berlin in Germany.

2018年10月21-26日，为了促进马克思主义的学术交流，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长金民卿研究员一行6人，先后访问考察了德国特里尔、科隆、柏林。

In Trier, Researcher Jin Minqing and his delegation visited the former residence of Marx, consulted and purchased materials related to Marx studies, and exchanged views with the residence staff on Marx’s influence today and the annual number of visitors to the residence.

In Cologne, Researcher Jin Minqing and his delegation investigated the East Asia Research Center at the University of Cologne and held two exchanges with the research team of Professor Felix Wemheuer. Around the theme “Globalization and China’s Reform and Opening Up,” Researcher Jin Minqing’s report explored “The Scientific Response of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to Major Questions of the Times,” Associate Researcher Wang Yonglei’s report explored “The Achievements, Experience, and Implications of 40 Years of Economic Development in China’s Reform and Opening Up,” and Professor Wemheuer’s report explored “Reform and Opening Up in the Context of Global History.” Around the theme “Cadre Building,” Jing Wenyu, a doctoral candidate at the East Asia Research Center of the University of Cologne, presented a report on “The Problem of Rural Cadres in the Era of the People’s Communes,” and Researcher Chen Zhigang’s report explored “Cadre Building in China’s New Era.” The two sides also discussed issues of mutual concern.

In Berlin, Researcher Jin Minqing and his delegation held a discussion with relevant Party branches of the Chinese Embassy in Germany. Minister Counselor Xu Yongquan of the Chinese Embassy in Germany presided over the discussion. Researcher Jin Minqing introduced the systematic response of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to the four major questions of the times [1]1 The “four major questions of the times” refers to a formulation in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, typically understood as: what has happened to the world, what has happened to China, what does the Party and the people want, and what should we do.; Researcher Pan Jin’e introduced the current situation of foreign communist parties and the reforms in socialist countries; and Lei Xiaohuan introduced the state of Marxist studies in Europe. Staff of the German embassy also presented their research on Marxism conducted in Germany. The academic exchange delegation also answered questions raised by Party members of the embassy branch.

At the Free University of Berlin, Researcher Jin Minqing and his delegation exchanged views with Professor Mechthild Leutner, German Director of the Confucius Institute, and Professor Bettina Gransow, Sinologist at the East Asia Institute of the Free University of Berlin, on topics including Marxist studies in Germany, Sinology, and the shaping of China’s international image.

Researcher Jin Minqing and his delegation held a discussion with Thorsten Jelinek, Director of the European Research Center of the Taihe Institute, and Senior Researcher Wang Hui, focusing on China’s economic development, clean energy, and other issues. In addition, they sought out and investigated Marx Park.

金民卿研究员一行与太和智库（Taihe Institute）欧洲研究中心主任托斯登·耶里尼克（Thorsten Jelinek）、高级研究员王慧，围绕中国的经济发展、清洁能源等问题进行了座谈。另外，还寻访、考察了马克思公园。
