On November 5, 2019, the “Sixth National Forum on Overseas Marxist Studies,” co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Institute of Marxism and China University of Mining and Technology, and jointly organized by the CASS Institute of Marxism’s Department of Overseas Marxist Studies and the School of Marxism at China University of Mining and Technology, was convened at China University of Mining and Technology. More than 200 domestic and international experts and scholars from research institutions such as the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Jilin University, Soochow University, Yunnan University, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, and Hubei University of Technology, as well as research institutions from Germany, Russia, and other countries, participated in this forum. Jiang Hui, member of the Leading Party Members Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies, and President of the Institute of Marxism; Song Xuefeng, President of China University of Mining and Technology; and Feng Qipu, member of the Standing Committee of the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee and Head of the Propaganda Department, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The meeting was presided over by Fan Jianxin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the CASS Institute of Marxism. Wang Zengguo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of China University of Mining and Technology, presided over the opening ceremony of the meeting.
2019年11月5日，由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、中国矿业大学主办，中国社科院马研院国外马克思主义研究部、中国矿业大学马克思主义学院联合承办的“第六届全国国外马克思主义研究论坛”在中国矿业大学召开。来自中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、吉林大学、苏州大学、云南大学、上海社会科学院、湖北工业大学等国内高校科研机构，以及德国、俄罗斯等国科研机构的国内外专家学者共200余人参加了本次论坛。中国社会科学院党组成员、当代中国研究所所长兼马克思主义研究院院长姜辉，中国矿业大学校长宋学锋，徐州市委常委、宣传部部长冯其谱出席开幕式并致辞。会议由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院党委书记、副院长樊建新主持。中国矿业大学党委副书记王增国主持了会议开幕式。

中国社会科学院党组成员、当代中国研究所所长、马克思主义研究院院长姜辉研究员致辞
At the opening ceremony, Researcher Jiang Hui introduced the background for convening this forum, reviewed the historical evolution of overseas Marxist studies over the 70 years since the founding of New China, analyzed the current theoretical hotspots and objectives of overseas Marxist studies, and offered valuable suggestions for the next phase of related research in the field of overseas Marxism. He pointed out that there are many schools of overseas Marxism, and how to view the nature and content of overseas Marxism, and how to conduct research with a focus on our own needs and for our own use, are crucial issues. Overseas Marxism must be viewed and studied with a scientific attitude. Currently, to comprehensively advance the study of overseas Marxism, it is necessary to organically integrate the interconnected and inseparable aspects of contemporary capitalism, world socialism, and socialism with Chinese characteristics, so as to comprehensively understand the issues and fully grasp the current state and trends of world Marxism and socialism. He emphasized that the world is currently undergoing changes unseen in a century, the development trend of “the East rising and the West declining” is increasingly evident, and the world is undergoing profound transformations favorable to Marxism and socialism. Against this backdrop of the times and world situation, we must strive to promote the study of overseas Marxism, advance the study of world socialism, restore and revitalize the power of Marxist truth, enhance the ability to use Marxism to study and solve practical problems, and continuously promote the enrichment and development of 21st-century Marxism.
开幕式上，姜辉研究员介绍了本次论坛的举办背景，回顾了新中国成立70年来国外马克思主义研究的历史演进，分析了当前国外马克思主义研究的理论热点与目标任务，并对下一阶段国外马克思主义领域的相关研究提出了宝贵建议。他指出，国外马克思主义流派众多，如何看待国外马克思主义性质和内容，如何在研究中以我为主、为我所用，是至关重要的问题。要以科学的态度看待和研究国外马克思主义。当前，全面推进国外马克思主义研究，必须把当代资本主义、世界社会主义、中国特色社会主义这几个相互联系、密不可分的方面有机结合起来，才能全面地看问题，全面地掌握世界马克思主义和社会主义的发展现状和趋势。他强调，当前世界处于百年未有之大变局，“东升西降”的发展趋势日益明显，世界发生着有利于马克思主义和社会主义的深刻转变。在这样的时代背景下和世界形势下，我们要着力推动国外马克思主义研究，推动世界社会主义研究，重新恢复并提振马克思主义真理的力量，提升运用马克思主义研究和解决实际问题的能力，不断推动21世纪马克思主义丰富发展。
Speech by Song Xuefeng, President of China University of Mining and Technology
中国矿业大学校长宋学锋致辞
At the opening ceremony, President Song Xuefeng delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university. He briefly introduced the history and basic situation of China University of Mining and Technology and extended a warm welcome to the attending experts and scholars. He stated that the university has always attached great importance to the construction and development of philosophy and social sciences, consistently prioritizing the development of the Marxist discipline as a key university discipline. He said that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important directive, “We must pay close attention to and study the new achievements of overseas Marxist research, with analysis and discernment, neither adopting an attitude of total rejection nor engaging in wholesale copying,” provides the fundamental guidance for deeply advancing the study of contemporary overseas Marxist philosophical thought in the New Era. In the future, the university will systematically implement the plan to revitalize the humanities, continue to increase support for the discipline, and create high-quality liberal arts with characteristics of China University of Mining and Technology. At the same time, he emphasized that the university attaches great importance to this forum and hopes to use it as an opportunity to strengthen China’s research on overseas Marxism.

Feng Qipu, member of the Standing Committee of the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee and Head of the Propaganda Department, delivered a speech on behalf of the Xuzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government. He introduced the basic situation of Xuzhou’s economic and social development, emphasized the solid position of China University of Mining and Technology as an important cultural resource base in Xuzhou, and affirmed the broad vision of this forum in studying Marxism from a global perspective.
