Professor Beat Schneider, Professor Emeritus of the Bern University of the Arts in Switzerland, Visits Our Institute for Exchange

On the morning of April 17, 2024, Professor Beat Schneider, Professor Emeritus of the Bern University of the Arts in Switzerland, left-wing activist, and former member of the Swiss Federal Assembly, visited our institute for exchange again after half a year. Professor Schneider has conducted in-depth research on Chinese history and culture and the history of the People’s Republic of China. His most influential representative work, *China’s Long March to Modernity: A Non-Eurocentric Perspective*, published in December 2022, has been reprinted in Europe.

2024年4月17日上午，瑞士伯尔尼艺术大学荣休教授、左翼活动家、前瑞士联邦议会议员贝特·施耐德时隔半年后，再次来我院交流。施耐德教授对中国历史文化和新中国史有深入研究，2022年12月出版的《中国通往现代化的长征：非欧洲中心主义的观点》是其影响最大的代表作，已在欧洲再版。

Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Academy of Marxism, and Lin Jianhua, Vice President, along with other scholars, engaged in in-depth, candid, and fruitful discussions on a series of issues of concern to Professor Schneider, such as the universality of Marxism, the laws and trends of human history and the development of the times, the so-called “middle-income trap,” the historical stage division of China’s socialist construction since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and the historical orientation of the New Era.

马克思主义研究院党委书记、院长辛向阳，副院长林建华等学者就施耐德教授关注的系列问题，如马克思主义的普世性、人类历史与时代发展的规律与趋势、所谓“中等收入陷阱”以及新中国成立以来中国社会主义建设的历史阶段划分和新时代的历史方位等问题，进行了深入、坦率且富有成效的探讨。

Professor Schneider stated that the scholars’ answers and analyses of the issues gave him a multi-dimensional and deeper understanding of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times and Chinese-path modernization. After returning to Europe, he will more actively and resolutely introduce to Marxist and communist parties in German-speaking countries the development achievements of socialism with Chinese characteristics, especially socialism with Chinese characteristics for a New Era. Secretary of the Party Committee and President Xin Xiangyang expressed gratitude for Professor Schneider’s related work and contributions and hoped to further strengthen academic exchanges and ties between the two sides in the future.

施耐德教授表示，各位学者对问题的解答与分析令他对中国化时代化马克思主义、中国式现代化有了立体多维、更深层次的了解，回到欧洲后，他将更主动、更坚定地向德语国家的马克思主义者和共产主义政党介绍中国特色社会主义特别是新时代中国特色社会主义的发展成就。党委书记、院长辛向阳对施耐德教授所作的相关工作和贡献表示感谢，希望今后进一步加强双方学术交流和联系。
