The Academy of Marxism Organizes Retired Cadres to Visit the China Archaeology Museum and the National Archives of Publications and Culture

On June 25, 2024, the Academy of Marxism organized retired Party members and veteran cadres to hold a themed activity of studying and comprehending the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech at the Forum on Cultural Heritage Preservation and Development, visiting the China Archaeology Museum and the Central General Branch of the National Archives of Publications and Culture, to appreciate the long history and profound breadth of five thousand years of Chinese civilization. Luo Wendong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Marxism, led and organized the visit, with 16 retired Party members and veteran cadres participating in the activity.

2024年6月25日，马研院组织退休老党员老干部举行学习领悟习近平总书记文化传承发展座谈会讲话精神的主题活动，参观中国考古博物馆和国家版本馆中央总馆，领略五千年中华文明的悠久历史和博大精深。马克思主义研究院党委书记罗文东带队组织参观，有16位退休老党员老干部参加了活动。

During and after the activity, everyone expressed their reflections, stating that visiting these two important national-level exhibition halls yielded many gains and was deeply educational.

活动过程中及活动后大家纷纷发表感想，表示此次参观两个重要的国家级展馆收获颇多，深受教育。

People felt that inside the Archaeology Museum, each ancient artifact and each exquisite mural seemed to take us through time and space, walking into the depths of history. They provided a more intuitive understanding of the life, art, and technology of ancient peoples. Through explanations and viewing, we gained a deeper understanding of the development and changes of ancient civilizations, and it also made us more reverent and cherish our cultural heritage, feeling proud from the depths of our hearts for the splendid historical culture of our Chinese nation! It allowed us to fully experience the diversity and richness of Chinese civilization, the long continuity of its historical culture, and the very important role Chinese civilization has played in promoting Sino-foreign cultural exchange and mutual learning, and in advancing the development of world civilizations. “Here is China; here is civilization!”[1]1 “宅兹中国，兹在文明” (Zhai zi Zhongguo, zi zai wenming): A paraphrase of the phrase “宅兹中国” (Zhai zi Zhongguo, “Here is China”) from the Western Zhou bronze inscription on the He Zun vessel (c. 11th century BCE), which is the earliest known written reference to “China” (Zhongguo). The second half “兹在文明” (zi zai wenming, “here is civilization”) is a modern addition emphasizing civilization.

大家感到，考古博物馆内，一件件古朴的文物、一幅幅精美的壁画，仿佛带我们穿越时空，走进了历史的深处。对古代人类的生活、艺术、科技有了更直观的认识。通过讲解和观看，我们对古代文明的发展、变迁有了更深的理解，也让我们更加敬畏和珍视我们的文化遗产，从内心深处为我们中华民族璀璨的历史文化而自豪！让我们充分感受到中华文明的多姿多彩、历史文化的源远流长，中华文明在促进中外文化交流互鉴、促进世界文明发展中起到的非常重要的作用。宅兹中国，兹在文明！

Some comrades also indicated that through visiting the archaeological artifacts, they gained an intuitive understanding of the long continuity and brilliant treasures of traditional Chinese culture. At the Archives of Publications and Culture, we saw the high importance Party and state leaders attach to cultural projects, thereby gaining a deeper comprehension of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s statement that without excellent traditional Chinese culture, there would be no socialism with Chinese characteristics, and a deeper comprehension of the “Two Integrations.”[2]2 The Two Integrations: A reference to the “Two Integrations” (两个结合, liang ge jiehe), a key concept in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, which calls for integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China’s specific realities and with the best of traditional Chinese culture.

还有同志表示，通过参观考古文物对中华传统文化的源远流长、灿烂瑰宝有了直观的认识。在版本馆，我们看到党和国家领导人对文化工程的高度重视，从而对习近平总书记所说，没有中华优秀传统文化，哪有中国特色社会主义有了更深的体悟，对“两个结合”有了更深的体悟。

Everyone unanimously agreed that these two visiting activities allowed us to acquire knowledge, broaden our horizons, and strengthen our emotions; it was an unforgettable experience. We thank the Party Committee of the Academy of Marxism, the Retired Party Members’ Branch, and the Office for their meticulous arrangements, and thank the staff of the Archaeology Museum and the Archives of Publications and Culture for their thoughtful service.
