Xin Xiangyang, President of the Institute of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Leads a Delegation to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Portugal for Academic Exchanges

From August 30 to September 7, 2024, Xin Xiangyang, President and Deputy Party Secretary of the Institute of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, led a delegation to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Portugal for academic exchanges. Delegation members included Yu Bin, Research Fellow and Director of the Department of Marxist Principles Research at the Institute of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Liu Zixu, Associate Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Editorial Department of *International Thought Review*; and Wang Xuedong, Associate Research Fellow of the Department of Studies on Marxism Abroad.

2024年8月30日至9月7日，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院院长、党委副书记辛向阳率团出访英国、爱尔兰、葡萄牙，开展学术交流。代表团成员包括中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义原理研究部主任余斌研究员、《国际思想评论》编辑部副主任刘子旭副研究员、国外马克思主义研究部王雪冬副研究员。

On August 31, the delegation held a discussion and exchange with several prominent British Marxist scholars and individuals knowledgeable about and friendly to China at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Foreign scholars participating in the discussion included Radhika Desai, Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and initiator of the International Manifesto Group; Keith Bennett, Vice Chair of the UK 48 Group Club and co-editor of the British Society for the Friendship of Socialist China (FOSC); and Alan Freeman, Professor at the Geopolitical Economy Research Centre, University of Manitoba, Canada. Chinese and foreign scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the great achievements of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the important reform measures proposed at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the current international situation and trends in imperialism.

8月31日，代表团与英国多位知名马克思主义学者和知华友华人士在伦敦政治经济学院进行了交流座谈。参与座谈的外方学者包括伦敦政治经济学院客座教授、国际宣言小组发起人拉迪卡•德赛（Radhika Desai）、英国48家集团俱乐部副主席、英国社会主义中国之友（FOSC）联合编辑基斯•贝纳特（Keith Bennett）、加拿大曼尼托巴大学地缘政治经济学研究中心教授艾伦•弗里曼（Alan Freeman）等。中外学者就中国特色社会主义取得的伟大成就、中国共产党二十届三中全会提出的重要改革举措以及当前的国际形势和帝国主义的发展趋势等问题进行了深入探讨。

On September 3, the delegation held a discussion at Connolly Books, affiliated with the Communist Party of Ireland, with Jimmy Corcoran, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Ireland, and Gearóid Ó Machail, member of the National Political Committee of the Communist Party of Ireland, along with other leading figures. Xin Xiangyang introduced to the foreign side the main content of the decision adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. The relevant responsible comrades of the Communist Party of Ireland introduced the Party’s century-long history and current state of development. The two sides also conducted in-depth exchanges on the current international situation and the state of the international workers’ movement.

9月3日，代表团在爱尔兰共产党下属的康诺利书店（Connolly Books）与爱尔兰共产党总书记吉米•科克伦（Jimmy Corcoran）、爱尔兰共产党全国政治委员会委员吉洛伊德•奥•马哈伊尔（Gearóid Ó Machail）等主要负责人进行了座谈。辛向阳向外方介绍了中国共产党二十届三中全会通过的决定的主要内容，爱尔兰共产党有关负责同志介绍了爱尔兰共产党的百年历史和发展现状。双方还就当前的国际局势及国际工人运动的现状等问题进行了深入交流。

On the morning of September 5, the delegation held a discussion with Albano Nunes, member of the Central Committee and the Central Control Commission of the Portuguese Communist Party and editor-in-chief of *O Militante*; Francisco Melo, member of the Central Control Commission of the Portuguese Communist Party and president of the *Avante!* Publishing House; and Luis Carapinha, member of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist Party. The two sides engaged in thorough exchanges on topics including the development achievements of socialism with Chinese characteristics and China’s international standing and role as a major power, as well as the century-long history of the Portuguese Communist Party and its role on the contemporary European political stage.

9月5日上午，代表团与葡萄牙共产党中央干部委员会委员、中央监察委员会委员、《战士报》主编阿尔巴诺•努内斯（Albano Nunes）、葡萄牙共产党中央监察委员会委员、《前进报》出版社社长弗朗西斯科•梅洛（Francisco Melo）、葡萄牙共产党中央国际部委员路易斯•卡拉皮尼亚（Luis Carapinha）进行了座谈。双方围绕中国特色社会主义的发展成就及中国的国际地位和大国担当、葡萄牙共产党的百年历史及其在当今欧洲政治舞台上发挥的作用等问题进行了充分交流。

On the afternoon of September 5, at the invitation of the Chinese Embassy in Portugal, Xin Xiangyang delivered a guidance report to all embassy staff on the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Ambassador Zhao Bentang highly praised the systematic nature and theoretical depth of the report’s content and expressed the hope that both sides would continue to strengthen communication and exchanges, making positive contributions to promoting the overseas dissemination of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

9月5日下午，受中国驻葡萄牙大使馆的邀请，辛向阳为大使馆全体馆员作了关于党的二十届三中全会精神的辅导报告。赵本堂大使对报告内容的系统性和理论的深邃性给予了高度评价，并希望双方继续加强沟通和交流，为推动习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的海外传播作出积极贡献。

During this trip, the delegation not only conducted in-depth discussions with Marxist scholars and individuals knowledgeable about and friendly to China from relevant foreign universities and research institutions but also engaged in thorough exchanges with the responsible comrades of the Communist Parties of the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Portugal. Both Chinese and foreign sides expressed that they will continue to strengthen communication and cooperation in the future, actively promote the mutual translation and dissemination of Marxist theoretical achievements between China and other countries, and jointly advance the development and progress of the world socialist movement and the communist movement.

代表团此行不仅与外方相关高校和科研院所的马克思主义学者和知华友华人士进行了深入研讨，同时还与英国、爱尔兰、葡萄牙三国共产党的相关负责人进行了充分交流。中外双方表示，未来将继续加强沟通与合作，积极推动中外马克思主义理论成果的互译与传播，共同推动世界社会主义运动和共产主义事业的发展进步。
