Director Xin Xiangyang Hosts Meeting with Australian Deputy Ambassador to China James Fisher and Delegation

On the afternoon of November 18, 2024, Xin Xiangyang, Director and Deputy Party Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, hosted a meeting with Australian Deputy Ambassador to China James Fisher and his delegation, engaging in academic exchange. Accompanying the Deputy Ambassador were Alex Chapman, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in China; Kieran Stenson, Second Secretary; and Yu Li, Senior Analyst. Participating from the Institute of Marxism Studies were He Xinyuan, Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Department of Studies on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context; Liu Xukuan, Research Fellow and Director of the Research Office of the Department of Studies on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; Liu Zixu, Associate Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Editorial Department of *International Thought Review*; and Chen Jianbo, Associate Research Fellow of the Department of Studies on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The meeting lasted approximately one and a half hours.

Director Xin Xiangyang first extended a warm welcome to Deputy Ambassador Fisher and his delegation for their first visit to the Institute of Marxism Studies, and gave a brief introduction to the Institute’s functional positioning, institutional structure, and academic platforms. Deputy Ambassador Fisher raised two questions: first, what are the most important topics currently in the field of research on adapting Marxism to the Chinese context within China? Second, what are the current priorities for adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the next steps for advancing it?

辛向阳院长首先对费致远公使一行第一次到访马研院表示热烈欢迎，并对中国社科院马研院的职能定位、机构设置、学术平台等做了简要介绍。费致远公使提出两个问题，第一，目前中国国内马克思主义中国化研究领域最主要的议题是什么？第二，马克思主义中国化当前的要务及下一步的推进措施是什么？

Director Xin Xiangyang engaged in exchange around the questions raised by the Deputy Ambassador, pointing out that studying China’s issues requires studying the Communist Party of China and studying adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, and that the Deputy Ambassador’s questions had grasped the key essence. Addressing the first question, Xin Xiangyang noted that, whether from a theoretical or practical perspective, the most important issue in current research on adapting Marxism to the Chinese context is how to systematically theorize and systematize the broad and profound Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Another relatively difficult key issue concerns the “Two Integrations” proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping, namely how to better integrate Marxism with China’s fine traditional culture in practice.

辛向阳院长围绕公使提出的问题进行交流，指出研究中国问题必须研究中国共产党、研究马克思主义中国化，公使的问题抓住了关键本质。针对第一个问题，辛向阳指出，不论从理论或实践的角度出发，目前马克思主义中国化研究中最重要的问题是如何将博大精深的习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想学理化、体系化，另一个比较有难度的重点问题是关于习近平总书记提出的“两个结合”，即如何在实践中更好地将马克思主义同中华优秀传统文化相结合的问题。

Addressing the second question, Research Fellow He Xinyuan stated that the current priorities for adapting Marxism to the Chinese context are: first, advancing theoretical innovation, continuously opening up new horizons for adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times; second, strengthening theoretical arming, continuously raising the level of Marxism across the entire Party, and continuously improving the Party’s governance capacity and leadership level; third, advancing theoretical research, strengthening the systematic theorization and systematization of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Regarding measures for advancement: first, it is necessary to achieve the “Two Integrations” and the “Six Musts” [1]; second, it is necessary

围绕第二个问题，贺新元研究员谈到，马克思主义中国化的当前要务一是推进理论创新，不断开辟马克思主义中国化时代化新境界；二是加强理论武装，不断提高全党马克思主义水平，不断提高党的执政能力和领导水平；三是推进理论研究，加强对习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的学理化体系化研究。在推进措施方面，一要做到“两个结合”和“六个必须坚持”；二要自觉用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想改造主观世界，同时自觉用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想改造客观世界；三要从道理学理哲理层面对习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想进行学理化阐释和体系化研究。

During the talks, President Xin Xiangyang discussed the exchanges and interactions between the Academy of Marxism and the Communist Party of Australia, noting that the latter is able to view China's development issues relatively objectively. He also shared his impressions of Australia's ecological environment, humanities, and arts. The talks concluded in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

会谈中，辛向阳院长谈到马研院与澳大利亚共产党的交流交往情况，认为对方能够比较客观地看待中国的发展问题，他还谈了对澳大利亚生态环境、人文艺术等的感受。会谈在轻松友好的气氛中结束。
