Yu Haiqing, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism, Leads Delegation to Brazil and Uruguay for Academic Exchange

From November 3 to 11, 2024, Yu Haiqing, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, led a delegation to Brazil and Uruguay for academic exchange. The delegation included Lou Yu, Associate Researcher at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

2024年11月3日至11日，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长于海青率团赴巴西、乌拉圭进行学术交流。代表团成员包括中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院楼宇副研究员。

During their stay in Brazil, the delegation held discussions with the Brazilian Communist Party and several of its affiliated institutions, as well as with scholars engaged in contemporary China studies, and participated in an academic seminar.

在巴西期间，团组与巴西共产党及下属多家机构、当代中国研究相关学者等进行座谈，并参加了学术研讨会。

In Rio de Janeiro, the delegation visited Evandro De Carvalho, a professor at the Law School of the Fluminense Federal University. Carvalho has long been dedicated to contemporary China studies and received the Chinese Government Friendship Award for his outstanding contributions to promoting cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. In 2023, the Brazilian National Congress awarded Carvalho the "China-Brazil Cross Medal," and the Portuguese edition of *China Today*, for which he serves as executive editor-in-chief, received the "China-Brazil Journalism Award" in recognition of the magazine's contributions to telling the true story of China and fostering cultural exchange between the two countries. The delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with Carvalho on topics such as promoting bilateral academic dialogue, jointly telling China's story effectively, and enhancing the international reach of Chinese scholarship. Carvalho introduced the characteristics and trends of contemporary China studies in Brazil in recent years, pointing out that research and promotion of areas such as the Chinese Communist Party's governance, China's socialist practice, and Chinese-path modernization should be strengthened, so that Latin American academia and the general public can understand the reasons behind China's miracle. He argued that the Brazilian academic community should strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, which would be beneficial for better enhancing the dissemination and influence of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Brazil.

团组在里约热内卢拜访了弗鲁米嫩塞联邦大学法学院教授埃万德罗·卡瓦略（Evandro De Carvalho）。卡瓦略长期致力于当代中国研究，因其在促进中外文化交流方面作出的突出贡献，获中国政府友谊奖。2023年，巴西国会授予卡瓦略“中国—巴西十字勋章”，由他任执行主编的《今日中国》葡文版获“中国—巴西新闻奖”，以表彰该杂志在讲述真实中国，促进两国文化交流上作出的贡献。团组就推动双边学术对话、合力讲好中国故事、提升中国学术走出去等主题与卡瓦略进行深入探讨。卡瓦略介绍了近年来巴西当代中国研究的特点和趋势，指出应加大对中国共产党治国理政、中国的社会主义实践、中国式现代化等领域的研究和宣介，让拉美学界和普通民众了解中国奇迹背后的原因。他认为，巴西学界应加强与中国社会科学院马研院的交流合作，这有利于更好地在巴西提升习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的传播力和影响力。

In São Paulo, the delegation held discussions with Walter Sorrentino, Vice President of the Brazilian Communist Party. Sorrentino expressed that the Brazilian Communist Party looks forward to a series of collaborations with the Academy of Marxism, such as jointly organizing seminars focused on the development of 21st-century Marxism, the Sinicization of Marxism, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; translating books on the histories of the Chinese Communist Party and the Brazilian Communist Party, as well as works by important theorists; and strengthening cooperation in the field of Marxist studies journals. Vice President Yu Haiqing responded positively to Vice President Sorrentino's proposals, stating that the Academy of Marxism will seriously explore how to cooperate with the think tanks, journals, and publishing houses affiliated with the Brazilian Communist Party. Through cooperation and exchange between left-wing political parties and academic circles in China and Latin America, mutual understanding and mutual learning can be enhanced, jointly contributing to the development of 21st-century Marxism and world socialism.

团组在圣保罗与巴西共产党副主席沃尔特·索伦蒂诺（Walter Sorrentino）等座谈。索伦蒂诺表示，巴西共产党期待与马研院开展一系列合作，如联合举办聚焦21世纪马克思主义的发展、马克思主义中国化、习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想等主题的研讨会；互译关于中国共产党和巴西共产党党史、重要理论家著作等图书；加强马克思主义研究领域的期刊合作等。于海青副院长对索伦蒂诺副主席的提议进行了积极回应，表示马研院将认真探讨如何与巴西共产党下属的智库、期刊和出版社合作，通过中拉左翼政党及学界的合作交流，加强彼此认知和互学互鉴，共同助力21世纪马克思主义和世界社会主义的发展。

On November 8, the delegation participated in the "Seminar on the Theory and Practice of Chinese-Path Modernization and Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Brazil," hosted by the Maurício Grabois Foundation in Brazil. Think tank experts and media representatives from China and Brazil engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as the new opportunities that the path of Chinese-path modernization offers to Latin American countries, promoting the overseas dissemination of the "Six Perspectives" theory of Chinese-path modernization, and jointly building an academic network for Chinese-Latin American civilization. Vice President Yu Haiqing delivered a keynote speech. She emphasized that the convening of this seminar is of great significance for promoting academic dialogue between China and Latin America and for strengthening the theoretical and practical exploration of modernization paths by Global South countries. Associate Researcher Lou Yu served as the seminar moderator and, drawing on her experience translating the "Six Perspectives" series on Chinese-path modernization, shared insights on how to tell the story of Chinese-path modernization effectively through academic translation.

11月8日，团组参加由巴西毛里西奥·格拉博伊斯基金会主办的“中国式现代化理论与实践暨纪念中巴建交50周年研讨会”。中巴相关智库专家和媒体代表围绕中国式现代化之路为拉美国家提供的新机遇、推动中国式现代化“六观”理论海外传播、合作共建中拉文明学术网络等议题展开了深入讨论。于海青副院长作主旨发言。她强调，本次研讨会的召开对促进中国和拉美地区的学术对话、加强全球南方国家对现代化道路的理论和实践探索具有重要意义。楼宇副研究员担任研讨会主持人，并结合翻译中国式现代化“六观”丛书的心得，围绕如何以学术外译讲好中国式现代化的故事进行了分享。

The delegation held discussions with Altair Freitas, Director of the João Amazonas National Training School affiliated with the Brazilian Communist Party, and others, exchanging views on topics such as institutional cooperation, strengthening academic exchange, and enhancing the Brazilian academic community's understanding of the theoretical innovation and practice of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context. The delegation also held discussions with the news website "Brasil 247," exploring how to introduce and disseminate contemporary China to Latin American countries and how to present a true, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive picture of China.

团组与巴西共产党下属的若昂•亚马逊国家培训学校校长阿尔泰尔·弗雷塔斯等座谈，就开展机构合作、加强学术交流、增进巴西学界对马克思主义中国化的理论创新和实践的了解等问题进行交流。团组还与“巴西247”新闻网座谈，探讨如何向拉美国家介绍和传播当代中国、如何展示真实立体全面的中国等问题。

The delegation held discussions with José Carvalho, President of the Brazilian Center for Solidarity with Peoples and the Struggle for Peace, exchanging views on topics such as China-Brazil relations, the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Latin America, and the Global South and geopolitical landscape. José Carvalho argued that President Xi's concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind has significant contemporary relevance, and that the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative between China and Latin America provides new opportunities for Brazil's development and modernization process, playing a positive role in promoting connectivity and sustainable development in the Latin American region.

团组与巴西声援人民和争取和平中心主席若泽·卡瓦略座谈，围绕中巴关系、中拉共建“一带一路”、全球南方与地缘政治格局等问题进行交流。若泽·卡瓦略认为，习主席提出的构建人类命运共同体理念具有重要的时代意义，中拉共建“一带一路”为巴西的发展和现代化进程提供了新机遇，对推动拉美地区的互联性和可持续性发展起到了积极作用。

To better understand the history of the Brazilian Communist Party, the delegation visited Niterói, the birthplace of the Brazilian Communist Party, and went to the famous left-wing bookstore in Brazil, Livraria Anita Garibaldi, to learn about the publication and dissemination of Marxist classics in Brazil, the historical documents of the Brazilian Communist Party, and the situation of books published in Brazil about contemporary China, and purchased some books.

为更好地了解巴西共产党的历史，团组访问了巴西共产党诞生地尼泰罗伊，并赴巴西著名左翼书店安妮塔·加里波第书店，了解马克思主义经典著作在巴西的出版与传播情况、巴西共产党党史文献、巴西出版的关于当代中国的图书情况等，并采购了部分图书。

In Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, the delegation held discussions with Juan Castillo, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Uruguay. Castillo briefed the delegation on the current development status and challenges facing the Communist Party of Uruguay. Castillo stated that the Communist Party of Uruguay is fully aware of the importance of strengthening the study and research of the history of the Chinese Communist Party, the theoretical innovation and practice of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and is preparing a team to carry out related research. He considered the visit of the Academy of Marxism delegation "very important and very timely." The Spanish editions of books presented by Vice President Yu Haiqing, including *Xi Jinping: The Governance of China*, *Xi Jinping on the Belt and Road Initiative*, *A Concise History of the Communist Party of China*, and *A Concise History of the People's Republic of China (1949-2019)*, provided the Communist Party of Uruguay with a substantial "academic gift," helping them to better understand the Chinese Communist Party and to study and comprehend Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

在乌拉圭首都蒙得维的亚，团组与乌拉圭共产党总书记胡安·卡斯蒂略（Juan Castillo）等进行座谈。卡斯蒂略向团组介绍了乌拉圭共产党的发展现状与面临的挑战。卡斯蒂略表示，乌拉圭共产党充分意识到加强对中国共产党的历史、马克思主义中国化的理论创新与实践、习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的学习和研究的重要性，正在筹备团队开展相关研究。他认为此次马研院团组的访问“非常重要、非常及时”。于海青副院长赠送的《习近平谈治国理政》《习近平谈“一带一路”》《中国共产党简史》《中华人民共和国简史（1949-2019）》等图书的西班牙文版，为乌拉圭共产党提供了一份厚重的“学术礼物”，有助于他们更好地了解中国共产党、学习领悟习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想。

The delegation held discussions with Ana Olivera, President of the Chamber of Representatives of Uruguay, at the Legislative Palace. Olivera, who previously served as Mayor of Montevideo and Deputy Minister of Social Development of Uruguay, has visited China multiple times. She introduced the exchanges between Uruguay and China in recent years and shared her observations and reflections from several inspection tours to China. She stated that she was deeply impressed by the effectiveness of the Chinese Communist Party's governance, the rapid pace of China's modernization development, and its broad reach. She expressed the view that the left-wing coalition "Frente Amplio" is highly likely to win the Uruguayan general election, which would further promote exchanges and cooperation between Uruguay and China in various fields.

团组与乌拉圭众议院议长安娜·奥利维拉（Ana Olivera）在国会大厦座谈。奥利维拉曾任蒙得维的亚市长、乌拉圭社会发展部副部长，多次访问中国。她介绍了乌拉圭近年来与中国的交流情况，分享了她几次赴华考察的见闻与思考。她表示，中国共产党治国理政之成效、中国的现代化发展进程之快、惠及面之广给她留下了深刻的印象。她认为，左翼联盟“广泛阵线”极有可能在乌拉圭大选中获胜，这将进一步推动乌拉圭和中国在各领域的交流合作。

Vice President Yu Haiqing led the delegation in friendly discussions with think tanks, left-wing scholars, and Communist Party members in Brazil and Uruguay, enhancing understanding of the political participation, Party building, and relations with Communist Parties in other Latin American countries of the Brazilian Communist Party and the Communist Party of Uruguay, and deepening awareness of the characteristics and trends of contemporary China studies in Brazilian and Uruguayan academic circles. The delegation actively promoted Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and reached multiple consensuses on academic exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, successfully completing the visit mission.

于海青副院长带领团组与巴西和乌拉圭的智库、左翼学者、共产党员等进行友好座谈，增进了对巴西共产党和乌拉圭共产党的政治参与、党建、与拉美其他国家共产党的关系等的认识，加深了对巴西学界、乌拉圭学界当代中国研究的特点及趋势的认知。团组积极宣介习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想，并就双方开展学术交流与合作达成多项共识，圆满地完成了出访任务。
