The 12th International Communist Movement Forum and the Launch of New Books Including *Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China* (Vietnamese Edition) Held in Kunming

On November 16–17, 2024, the “12th International Communist Movement Forum and the Launch of New Books Including *Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China* (Vietnamese Edition)” was held in Kunming, with the theme “Theory and Practice of Democratic Political Systems in Socialist Countries.” This forum was co-hosted by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Yunnan University, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Academy of Chinese-Path Modernization. It was organized by the Research Department of International Communist Movement of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Yunnan University.

2024年11月16-17日，“第十二届国际共产主义运动论坛暨《中国的全过程人民民主》（越南语版）等新书发布会”在昆明举行，主题为“社会主义国家民主政治制度的理论与实践”。本次论坛由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、云南大学和中国社会科学院中国式现代化研究院主办。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共产主义运动研究部、云南大学马克思主义学院承办。

During the opening ceremony, Lin Jianhua, Party Secretary of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences’ Academy of Chinese-Path Modernization; Zhou Xuebin, Party Secretary of Yunnan University; and Yu Haiqing, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended and delivered speeches.

In his speech, Lin Jianhua introduced the main content of the book *Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China* and provided a key explanation of the background and foundation for the theme “further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese-path modernization” as determined by the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC.[1]1 The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, held in July 2024, is a key meeting of the Chinese Communist Party’s top leadership that typically sets major economic and social reform agendas.

林建华在致辞中介绍了《中国的全过程人民民主》一书的主要内容，并就党的二十届三中全确定“进一步全面深化改革、推进中国式现代化”这一主题的背景和基础作了重点阐释。

In his speech, Zhou Xuebin elaborated on the important practical significance of convening the “12th International Communist Movement Forum and the Launch of *Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China* (Vietnamese Edition)” at a time when the whole country is deeply studying and implementing the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC.

周学斌在致辞中阐述了在全国深入学习贯彻党的二十届三中全会精神之际召开“第十二届国际共产主义运动论坛暨《中国的全过程人民民主》（越南语版）”的重要现实意义。

In his speech, Yu Haiqing introduced the development history and main content of the International Communist Movement Forum and the *Report on International Communist Movement Development*, both initiated by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and discussed the theme of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC focusing on Chinese-path modernization.

于海青在致辞中介绍了中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院创办的国际共产主义运动论坛和《国际共产主义运动发展报告》的发展历程和主要内容，并就党的二十届三中全会聚焦中国式现代化这一主题进行了论述。

During the new book launch segment, Professor Nguyen Minh Huan, Head of the Philosophy Department of the Faculty of Journalism and Propaganda at the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics of Vietnam, representing the Vietnam Political Theory Publishing House, announced the translation and publication of *Whole-Process People’s Democracy in China* (Vietnamese Edition) and the *Research Report on the International Communist Movement* (2022–2023) (Vietnamese Edition), and introduced the widespread impact of these works in Vietnam.

Andrea Catone, Editor-in-Chief of the Italian journal *Marxism of the 21st Century*, representing the publisher of the English and Italian editions of the *Research Report on the International Communist Movement* (2021–2022)—the Italian 21st Century Marx Publishing House—announced the new book release and introduced the widespread impact of the *Research Report on the International Communist Movement* among communist parties in various European countries over the past few years.

意大利《二十一世纪马克思》杂志主编安德烈·卡托内代表《国际共产主义运动研究报告》（2021-2022）英文版和意大利语版的出版方——意大利21世纪马克思出版社进行了新书发布，并介绍了过去几年间《国际共产主义运动研究报告》在欧洲各国共产党中产生的广泛影响。

During the plenary speech segment of the forum, over 30 experts and scholars from China, Italy, Vietnam, Laos, and other countries conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics including “The Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC and New Developments in Chinese-Path Modernization,” “Comparative Mutual Learning in the Construction of Democratic Politics in Socialist Countries,” and “New Dynamics of the International Communist Movement and Foreign Communist Parties.”

在论坛的大会发言阶段，来自中国、意大利、越南和老挝等国共计30余位专家学者，分别就“中共二十届三中全会与中国式现代化新发展”、“社会主义国家民主政治建设的比较互鉴”“国际共产主义运动和国外共产党新动态”等议题进行了深入研讨和交流。

Researcher Chai Shangjin from the Contemporary World Research Center of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC delivered a plenary speech titled “The Implications of Chinese-Path Modernization for the Modernization of Other Developing Countries.”

Francesco Maringiò, a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Italy and President of the Italian 21st Century Marx Political and Cultural Association, introduced the dissemination and impact of the *Research Report on the International Communist Movement* among communist parties in various European countries, and provided a key elaboration on new dynamics of European communist parties and left-wing political parties.

Professor Yu Sinian from the School of Political Science and International Relations at Central China Normal University delivered a plenary speech titled “New Observations on the Research Paradigm of Contemporary World Socialism.”

On November 17, the forum also held group discussion sessions. Nearly 100 scholars from institutions including the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance) of the CPC, the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Institute of Party History and Literature of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China University of Political Science and Law, the Party School of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, Beijing Institute of Technology, the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Yunnan University, Shandong University, Central China Normal University, and Soochow University participated in online and offline exchanges.

11月17日，论坛还进行了小组分组讨论。来自中共中央党校（国家行政学院）、中共中央对外联络部、中共中央党史和文献研究院、中国社会科学院、中国政法大学、中共北京市委党校、北京理工大学、上海社会科学院、云南大学、山东大学、华中师范大学、苏州大学等单位的近百名学者参与了线上线下的交流。

During the closing ceremony segment of the forum, Professor Zhao Ting, Vice Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration at Shandong University, and Professor Li Haiyu from the School of Marxism at Henan Polytechnic University delivered exchange speeches on behalf of their respective groups. Associate Researcher Pan Xihua, Director of the Office of the History of the International Communist Movement within the Research Department of International Communist Movement of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the closing ceremony. Professor Yuan Qun summarized the preparation and convening of the forum.
