China Historical Materialism Society 2024 Academic Annual Conference Successfully Held in Beijing

From December 27 to 28, 2024, the “China Historical Materialism Society 2024 Academic Annual Conference” was held at Peking University, co-hosted by the China Historical Materialism Society, the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Peking University, organized by the School of Marxism at Peking University and the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and co-organized by the Editorial Office of *Marxist Studies*. The theme of this annual conference was “Further Deepening Comprehensive Reform and Chinese-Path Modernization.”

2024年12月27日至28日，由中国历史唯物主义学会、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、北京大学主办，北京大学马克思主义学院、中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院承办，《马克思主义研究》编辑部协办的“中国历史唯物主义学会2024年学术年会”在北京大学举行。本次年会主题是“进一步全面深化改革与中国式现代化”。

Nearly one hundred experts and scholars from units including the Central Party School of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Renmin University of China participated in the conference. The opening ceremony was presided over by Yang Haifeng, Dean of the School of Marxism at Peking University.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Xin Xiangyang stated that the development of the China Historical Materialism Society benefits from the academic leadership of President Hou Huiqin, from the wisdom contributions and strong support of various experts, and even more from the demands of the development of the times. The current era, in its essence, remains an era of transition from capitalist society to socialist society, still the era indicated by Marxism, and the basic principles of historical materialism still require further in-depth study. Facing the issues of the times, on the one hand, it is necessary to summarize answers from practice; on the other hand, it is necessary to deepen fundamental theoretical research from a philosophical perspective, in order to successfully complete the task of systematic and theoretical research and interpretation of the Party’s innovative theory. The development of the China Historical Materialism Society is continuously realized precisely through broad academic exchanges in answering the questions of the times.

辛向阳在开幕式致辞中表示，中国历史唯物主义学会的发展得益于侯惠勤会长的学术引领，得益于各位专家的智慧贡献和鼎力支持，更得益于时代发展的要求。当今时代从本质上看，依然处在从资本主义社会向社会主义社会过渡的时代，仍然是马克思主义所指明的时代，历史唯物主义基本原理还需要进一步深化研究。面对时代问题，一方面需要从实践中总结答案，另一方面要从哲学意义上深化基础理论研究，才能完成好党的创新理论体系化学理化的研究阐释任务。中国历史唯物主义学会的发展正是在回答时代问题的广泛的学术交流中不断实现的。

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Hou Huiqin stated that the achievements of the China Historical Materialism Society today are due to: first, consistently adhering to the correct political direction of running the society, always centering on the central tasks of the Party and the state, and serving the overall work of the Party and the state; second, consistently insisting on discussing politics through scholarship, and persistently conducting systematic and theoretical research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; third, consistently upholding the unity of the “Two For” direction [1]1 The “Two For” direction (二为方向) refers to the policy that literature and art should serve the people and serve socialism. and the “Double Hundred” policy [2]2 The “Double Hundred” policy (双百方针) refers to the policy of letting a hundred flowers bloom and a hundred schools of thought contend, encouraging diversity in arts and sciences., adhering to upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground, and adhering to openness and inclusiveness. Today, our important task is to vigorously promote the systematic and theoretical research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

侯惠勤在开幕式致辞中表示，中国历史唯物主义学会能够取得今天的成就，一是始终坚持办会的正确政治方向，始终围绕党和国家的中心任务，服务党和国家工作大局；二是始终坚持以学术讲政治，坚持对习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想进行体系化学理化的研究阐释；三是始终坚持“二为”方向和“双百”方针的统一，坚持守正创新，坚持开放包容。今天我们的重要任务是大力推进习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想体系化学理化的研究阐释。

After the opening ceremony, Hou Huiqin delivered a keynote report titled “The Essence of the Worldview and Methodology of Chinese-Path Modernization.” He discussed that the systems concept is a prominent feature of the worldview and methodology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and can serve as an entry point for summarizing Xi Jinping’s important philosophical thought. The systems concept is one of the essence and core of dialectical materialism, a complete grasp of the essence of dialectical materialism, constituting the foundational thinking of dialectical materialism. It has prominent value in the New Era characterized by peace and development, conforms to the new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, provides a systematic method for understanding new quality productive forces, and responds to the question of the times, “Where to go?” The systems concept is the hub for our profound comprehension of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The keynote report session was presided over by Li Jianguo, Secretary-General of the China Historical Materialism Society.

开幕式后，侯惠勤做题为《中国式现代化的世界观方法论精髓》的主旨报告。他谈到，系统观念是习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的世界观方法论突出的特点，可以作为概括习近平重要哲学思想的切入点。系统观念是唯物辩证法的本质和核心之一，是对唯物辩证法精髓的完整的把握，构成唯物辩证法的奠基性思维，在以和平与发展为特征的新时代有突出的价值，顺应了新一轮科技革命和产业变革，提供了理解新质生产力的系统方法，回应了“向何处去”的时代之问。系统观念是我们深刻领悟习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的枢纽。主旨报告环节由中国历史唯物主义学会秘书长李建国主持。

Sixteen experts and scholars, including Xin Xiangyang, Jin Minqing, Yan Xiaofeng, Jiang Yingchun, Yuan Yinchuan, Feng Yanli, Sun Xiguo, Yang Shengping, as well as Dong Zhenhua, Director of the Department of Philosophy Teaching and Research at the Central Party School of the CPC (National Academy of Governance); Professor Hou Yanshe from the School of Marxism at Renmin University of China; Tian Pengying, Dean of the Institute of Chinese-Path Modernization at Northeastern University; Professor Wang Yonggui from the School of Marxism at Nanjing Normal University; Liu Tongfang, Dean of the School of Marxism at Zhejiang University; Professor Wang Yan from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Professor Yang Renzhong from the School of Marxism at Tianjin Normal University; and Zhang Shihai, Dean of the School of Marxism at Shandong University, respectively delivered thematic reports. Chen Zhigang, Deputy Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Vice President of the Academy of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Zheng Chengjun, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Historical Materialism Society and Vice President of Beijing International Studies University, respectively presided over the first and second sessions of the thematic reports.

辛向阳、金民卿、颜晓峰、姜迎春、袁银传、冯颜利、孙熙国、杨生平以及中共中央党校（国家行政学院）哲学教研部主任董振华、中国人民大学马克思主义学院教授侯衍社、东北大学中国式现代化研究院院长田鹏颖、南京师范大学马克思主义学院教授王永贵、浙江大学马克思主义学院院长刘同舫、南京航空航天大学教授王岩、天津师范大学马克思主义学院教授杨仁忠、山东大学马克思主义学院院长张士海等16位专家学者分别做主题报告。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院纪委书记、副院长陈志刚，中国历史唯物主义学会副秘书长、北京第二外国语学院副校长郑承军分别主持第一时段和第二时段的主题报告。

This year marks the transition term for the China Historical Materialism Society. The transition meeting was held after the academic seminar. In accordance with the *Charter of the China Historical Materialism Society*, members of the Ninth Council of the China Historical Materialism Society were elected by member representatives through secret ballot. Subsequently, members of the Standing Committee and responsible persons of the Ninth Council were elected by council members through secret ballot. Xin Xiangyang was elected as the new President of the China Historical Materialism Society. Yan Xiaofeng, Jin Minqing, Wu Fulai, Yang Haifeng, Feng Yanli, Chen Zhigang, Liu Tongfang, Tian Pengying, Yang Renzhong, Li Deping, Wang Yan, Zhang Zhidan, and Li Jianguo were elected as new Vice Presidents of the Society. Liu Xukuan was elected as the new Secretary-General of the Society.

今年是中国历史唯物主义学会换届之年。换届大会于学术研讨会后举行。根据《中国历史唯物主义学会章程》，经由会员代表大会以无记名投票选举产生中国历史唯物主义学会第九届理事会理事，再经由理事以无记名投票选举产生第九届理事会常务理事和学会负责人，辛向阳当选中国历史唯物主义学会新一届会长，颜晓峰、金民卿、吴付来、仰海峰、冯颜利、陈志刚、刘同舫、田鹏颖、杨仁忠、李德平、王岩、张志丹、李建国当选为新一届学会副会长，刘须宽当选为新一届学会秘书长。
