Vice President of the Academy of Marxism Yu Haiqing Leads Delegation to Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy for Academic Exchanges

To strengthen exchanges and cooperation with foreign communist parties and research institutions, and to promote the international dissemination of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, from August 31 to September 9, 2025, a delegation led by Yu Haiqing, Vice President and Research Fellow of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, conducted academic visits to Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy. The delegation members included Zhang Jiangang, Jia Keqing, Peng Haihong, and Li Kaixuan, researchers from the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

为加强同国外共产党以及研究机构的交流合作，推动习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的国际传播，2025年8月31日至9月9日，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长于海青研究员率团赴丹麦、瑞士、意大利三国进行学术访问。团组成员包括中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院研究人员张建刚、贾可卿、彭海红、李凯旋。

On the afternoon of August 31 local time, the delegation held friendly exchanges in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Lotte Rortoft-Madsen, Chairperson of the Communist Party of Denmark, and national committee members including Kaivon Kjems and Emil Boost (heads of the International Department), Marc Sanganee (editor-in-chief of the journal *Arbejderen*), and Rune Jørgensen. They received a detailed introduction to the Communist Party of Denmark’s membership structure, historical development, current situation, and future plans. Both sides also conducted discussions and in-depth exchanges on theoretical and practical issues such as the development of the fundamental principles of Marxism by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the global significance of Chinese-path modernization, and the essence of socialism.

On September 1, the delegation exchanged views with scholars including Kjeld Erik Brodsgaard, Professor at the Copenhagen Business School in Denmark. Vice President Yu Haiqing briefed Professor Brodsgaard on China’s economic and social development since the New Era. Professor Brodsgaard, in turn, elaborated on his views on party politics and modernization from the perspectives of party-government models, immigration issues, and welfare systems. Both sides also engaged in detailed discussions on the construction of the Party’s cadre contingent.

9月1日，访问团与丹麦哥本哈根商学院教授柏思德（Kjeld Erik Brodsgaard）等专家学者进行交流。于海青副院长就新时代以来中国经济社会发展状况向柏思德教授作了简要介绍，柏思德教授则从政党与政府模式、移民问题、福利制度等方面，阐述了他对政党政治与现代化的看法。双方还就党的干部队伍建设问题进行了深入细致的讨论。

On September 2, the delegation exchanged views in Geneva, Switzerland, with left-wing scholars including Stefano Araujo (Researcher at the University of Geneva), Ludevic Iberg (Researcher at the University of Lausanne), and Karim Lasseb (PhD candidate at the University of Lausanne) on the understanding of Chinese-path modernization’s path and experience among young Swiss intellectuals in recent years, and explored possibilities for future cooperation.

9月2日，访问团在瑞士日内瓦与日内瓦大学研究员斯德法诺·阿拉乌约（Stefano Araujo）、洛桑大学研究员路德维克·依波戈（Ludevic Iberg）和洛桑大学博士凯瑞姆·拉色波（Karim Lasseb） 等左翼学者就近年来瑞士青年知识分子对中国式现代化道路与经验的认识进行交流，并就未来可能展开的合作进行了探讨。

On September 3 and the afternoon of September 4, after returning from Locarno to Bellinzona, the delegation held exchanges in Bellinzona, Switzerland, with Massimiliano Ay, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Switzerland; Alessandro Lucchini, Deputy Secretary; and several Central Committee members—including Samule Iembo (head of the International Department), Amos Speranza (editor-in-chief of *Nuova Politica*), Nil Malyguine (editor-in-chief of the party’s left-wing website), Rudi Alves, and Adam Barbato-Shoufani (General Secretary of the Communist Party of Switzerland’s Youth League)—on the experience of Chinese-path modernization and the Communist Party of Switzerland’s electoral breakthroughs. Ay stated that China is a large country and that the leadership of the Communist Party of China has proven to be very important and effective; the Communist Party of Switzerland highly identifies with the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Ay also introduced the increasingly positive development of the Communist Party of Switzerland and the main topics of its party congress scheduled for November 2025. By cooperating with other left-wing parties and participating in regional and municipal governance, the Communist Party of Switzerland’s influence among the Swiss population has been steadily rising. Vice President Yu Haiqing introduced the latest developments in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and pointed out that the Communist Party of Switzerland has two outstanding strengths: first, its membership structure is younger and more dynamic; second, its ideological unity and high organizational cohesion are important reasons for the party’s sustained growth in recent years.

On September 4, the delegation exchanged views in Locarno, Switzerland, with Davide Rossi, a founding member of the Institute for the History of Philosophy and Contemporary Thought in Switzerland. Both sides discussed the theoretical and practical achievements of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, as well as the latest trends and evolutionary directions of European left-wing thought. The delegation elaborated on the important role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in promoting China’s development and advancing global governance reform. The Swiss side briefly introduced the institute’s contributions to cultural and artistic exchanges between China and Switzerland in recent years and shared new perspectives on European left-wing thought regarding issues such as equality, sustainable development, and social justice.

9月4日，访问团在瑞士洛迦诺与瑞士历史与当代哲学思想研究所的创始成员大卫·罗西（Davide Rossi）等进行交流。双方围绕中国化时代化的马克思主义理论与实践成果、欧洲左翼思潮的最新动态及演变趋势进行了探讨。访问团阐述了习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想在推动中国发展、促进全球治理变革中的重要作用。瑞方则简要介绍了近年来该所在中瑞文化艺术交流中的贡献，并分享了欧洲左翼思潮在平等、可持续发展、社会正义等议题上的新观点。

On September 5, the delegation exchanged views in Milan, Italy, with Professor Matteo Bolocan of the Polytechnic University of Milan on how Italian left-wing scholars view the global significance of Chinese-path modernization. Vice President Yu Haiqing introduced the latest developments in Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and refuted and clarified misunderstandings of Chinese-path modernization held by some European scholars. Professor Bolocan argued that Chinese-path modernization has broken the dependence on Western modernization paths. Through internal institutional optimization and peaceful development practices, it provides a non-aggressive, non-colonial new development paradigm for Global South countries. He particularly affirmed China’s efforts in infrastructure connectivity and South-South cooperation. He believes that this development model, centered on sovereign equality, is of great significance for reforming the existing unjust global governance system.

9月5日，访问团在意大利米兰与米兰理工大学马泰奥·波罗坎（Matteo Bolocan）教授等就意大利左翼学者如何看待中国式现代化的世界意义进行交流。于海青副院长介绍了习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的最新发展，并对欧洲一些学者对中国式现代化的误解进行了批驳和澄清。波罗坎教授认为，中国式现代化打破了对西方现代化路径的依赖，通过内部制度优化与和平发展实践，为全球南方国家提供了非侵略性、非殖民性的新发展范式，尤其肯定了中国在基础设施互联互通、南南合作等领域的努力。他认为这种以主权平等为核心的发展模式，对改革现有不公正全球治理体系具有重要意义。

On September 6, the delegation exchanged views in Rome, Italy, with Cinzia Della Porta (member of the National Executive Committee and Secretariat) and Pierpaolo Leopardi (International Department coordinator) of the Unione Sindacale di Base (USB) in Italy. USB is an independent trade union that has developed rapidly in recent years outside Italy’s three major unions—CGIL, CISL, and UIL. It has strong mobilizing capacity in organizing national strikes and demonstrations and holds significant influence within the World Federation of Trade Unions. By strengthening ties with Italian trade unions, the delegation further deepened exchanges and cooperation with the European left.

9月6日，访问团在意大利罗马与意大利的基层工会联合会（USB）国家执行委员会、秘书处成员辛西亚·德拉·波尔塔（Cinzia Della Porta）、国际部协调人皮埃尔保罗·莱奥帕尔迪（Pierpaolo Leopardi ）等交流。基层工会联合会是近年来在意大利全国总工会(CGIL)、自由工会联盟(CISL)和工人联合会(UIL)等三大工会之外迅速发展起来的独立工会，在举行全国性罢工和示威行动中具有较强的动员力量，且在世界工会联合会中具有较大影响力。访问团通过加强与意大利工会方面的联系，进一步深化了与欧洲左翼的交流与合作。

On September 6, Vice President Yu Haiqing led the delegation in a discussion in Rome, Italy, with Counselor Zou Jianjun of the Chinese Embassy in Italy on how to strengthen political and cultural exchanges and cooperation with Italy. Vice President Yu Haiqing expressed gratitude for the Italian Embassy’s strong support for the Academy of Marxism’s international academic exchange activities in recent years and introduced the purpose and achievements of this trip to Europe. Counselor Zou Jianjun welcomed the delegation’s visit, noting that under the current changes unseen in a century, the political landscape and political culture of the European left have undergone significant changes, with both challenges and opportunities. He expressed the hope that scholars from the Academy of Marxism would continue to play an active role in articulating the achievements, experience, and global significance of the Chinese-path modernization path and in promoting exchanges and cooperation with European left-wing forces and academic circles.

9月6日，于海青副院长率团组在意大利罗马与中国驻意大利使馆参赞邹建军等座谈，双方就如何加强同意大利的政治文化交流合作进行了探讨。于海青副院长就近几年来意大利使馆对马研院国际学术交流活动的大力支持表示感谢，并介绍了此次欧洲之行的目的与收获。邹建军参赞对马研院一行的来访表示欢迎，指出当前百年未有之大变局下欧洲左翼政治格局和政治文化都发生了较大变化，挑战与机遇并存，期待马研院学者继续在讲好中国式现代化道路的成就、经验与世界意义，推动与欧洲左翼力量和学术界的交流合作中发挥积极作用。

On September 7, the delegation exchanged views in Rome, Italy, with the Italian Communist Refoundation Party, the Italian Communist Party, and the Communist Party (Italy) on the experience of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the unity of the Italian communist movement. The delegation introduced the practical achievements of Chinese-path modernization, emphasizing the institutional advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the people-centered principle. The general secretaries of the three Italian communist parties—Maurizio Acerbo, Mauro Alboresi, and Alberto Lombardo—participated in the meeting. They highly endorsed the inspirational nature of the theory and practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era, stating that left-wing coordination should be strengthened on issues such as safeguarding labor rights, anti-hegemonic struggle, and social equity, in order to jointly address the challenges posed by the expansion of right-wing forces in Europe.

9月7日，访问团在意大利罗马与意大利重建共产党、意大利共产党和共产党（意大利）就中国特色社会主义的经验、意大利共产主义运动的团结问题进行交流。访问团介绍了中国式现代化的实践成果，强调中国特色社会主义的制度优势与人民主体性。意大利三个共产党的总书记毛里奇奥·阿切尔博（Maurizio Acerbo）、毛罗·阿尔伯雷西（Mauro Alboresi）和阿尔贝托·隆巴尔多（Alberto Lombardo）与会，他们高度认同新时代中国特色社会主义理论与实践的启发性，表示在劳工权益维护、反霸权斗争及社会公平议题上应强化左翼协同，共同应对欧洲右翼势力扩张挑战。

During the talks, Vice President Yu Haiqing also specifically proposed measures to strengthen cooperation with communist parties and left-wing forces in various countries, including the translation of works, publication of articles, and participation in conferences, which received recognition and a positive response from the other side.

在会谈过程中，于海青副院长还具体提出了与各国共产党和左翼力量加强合作的措施，包括著作翻译、文章发表、以及参与会议等形式，得到了对方的认同和积极响应。

On the same day, the delegation also exchanged views with scholars from the Italian Association for Marxist Political Culture of the 21st Century and the journal *Marx in the 21st Century*. Both sides highly affirmed the results of cooperation in recent years and preliminarily outlined future directions and content for collaboration.

同日，团组还与意大利21世纪马克思政治文化协会、《21世纪的马克思》杂志的学者进行交流，双方高度肯定近年来的合作成果，并初步拟定了未来的合作方向和内容。

On September 8, the delegation exchanged views in Rome, Italy, with the Gramsci Foundation of Italy. The Gramsci Foundation is one of the most important and influential cultural and political research institutions in Italy, possessing the world’s most complete and precious collection of Gramsci research documents and historical documents of the Italian Communist Party. Rooted in Gramsci’s Marxist and socialist intellectual tradition, the foundation is a major center for left-wing academic thought in Italy and globally, enjoying a high reputation in international academic circles. Five representatives of the foundation’s Scientific Committee—Michele Di Donato (researcher at Roma Tre University), Giancarlo Schirru (researcher at the University of Naples “L’Orientale”), Gianluca Fiocco (researcher at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”), Gabriele Siracusano (researcher at the University of Trento and professor at the University of Rome), and Alessio Gagliardi (professor at the University of Bologna)—discussed with the delegation members how to further strengthen cooperation and deepen and expand the global influence of Gramsci studies. The delegation and the foundation representatives exchanged views on the current state and development challenges of the European left, and introduced the development achievements and global significance of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era.

The delegation of the Academy of Marxism’s visits to communist parties and left-wing organizations in Denmark, Switzerland, and Italy was both a tracing of the origins and dissemination of Marxist theory and a deep dialogue on the development and practice of contemporary socialism. Through these exchanges, we have gained a clearer understanding that the European left’s critique of the structural contradictions of capitalism and its pursuit of social fairness and justice reflect the explanatory power and moral appeal of Marxism in reality. Against the backdrop of profound changes in the global governance system and frequent crises in the Western modernization model, China, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, has opened up the path of Chinese-path modernization, achieved rapid economic development and long-term social stability, and demonstrated the international significance of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In the future, we should more actively participate in global dialogue, demonstrating the truth of scientific socialism through critical engagement and learning.

马研院代表团对丹麦、瑞士、意大利等国共产党及左翼组织的访问，既是一次对马克思主义理论源流与传播历程的追溯，也是一场围绕当代社会主义发展与实践的深度对话。通过此次交流，我们更加清晰地认识到，欧洲左翼力量对资本主义结构性矛盾的批判、对社会公平正义的追求，体现了马克思主义的现实解释力和道义感召力。在当前全球治理体系深刻变革、西方现代化模式困境频现的背景下，中国坚持以习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想为指导，开辟了中国式现代化道路，实现了经济快速发展和社会长期稳定，彰显了中国特色社会主义的国际意义。未来，我们应更积极主动地参与全球对话，在批判借鉴中彰显科学社会主义的真理力量。
