The 13th International Communist Movement Forum Convened in Changchun

On November 1–2, 2025, the 13th International Communist Movement Forum was convened in Changchun, hosted by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Northeast Normal University, and organized by the International Communist Movement Research Department of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Marxism of Northeast Normal University. Leading experts and young scholars from central and state organs, universities, and research institutes, including the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Northeast Normal University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shandong University, and Nanjing University, participated in the forum. Focusing on the theme “The History, Theory, and Reality of World Socialism,” the participating scholars engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as the historical process and development prospects of world socialism, the historical experiences and lessons of the international communist movement, international organizations, historical figures, and historical events in the history of the international communist movement, new changes in contemporary capitalism and their relationship with socialism, the current situation and development trends of socialism abroad, and the contributions and status of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the world socialist movement.

2025年11月1-2日，由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院和东北师范大学主办、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共产主义运动研究部和东北师范大学马克思主义学部承办的第十三届国际共产主义运动论坛在长春召开。来自中共中央对外联络部、中国社会科学院、东北师范大学、北京大学、复旦大学、山东大学、南京大学等中央和国家机关、高校科研院所的领导专家、青年学者参加了论坛。与会学者聚焦“世界社会主义的历史、理论与现实”这一主题，围绕世界社会主义的历史进程与发展前景，国际共产主义运动的历史经验教训，国际共产主义运动史中国际组织、历史人物、历史事件，当代资本主义新变化及其与社会主义的关系，国外社会主义的现状与发展趋势，中国特色社会主义在世界社会主义运动中的贡献和地位等议题进行了深入研讨交流。

This forum was divided into four agendas: the opening ceremony, plenary keynote speeches, breakout sessions, and a special seminar on discipline construction. The forum’s opening ceremony on the morning of November 1 was presided over by Professor Meng Xiansheng, Dean of the Faculty of Marxism at Northeast Normal University. In his address, Chang Qing, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice President of Northeast Normal University, introduced the university’s red heritage as the “cradle of people’s teachers” and its profound foundation and outstanding advantages in the disciplinary construction of Marxist theory, scientific socialism, and the international communist movement. He pointed out that, standing at the historical juncture of the “two centenary goals,”[1]1 The “two centenary goals” refer to the goals of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects by the centenary of the CPC (2021) and building a modern socialist country that is prosperous, strong, democratic, culturally advanced, and harmonious by the centenary of the People’s Republic of China (2049). scientific researchers bear an important academic mission. This forum should deepen research on the international communist movement, profoundly grasp the innovative development and original contributions of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to the theory of scientific socialism, and serve the development of the times with academic wisdom.

此次论坛分为开幕式、大会主题发言、分论坛和学科建设专题研讨四个议程。1日上午的论坛开幕式由东北师范大学马克思主义学部部长孟宪生教授主持。东北师范大学党委副书记兼副校长常青在致辞中介绍了东北师范大学作为“人民教师的摇篮”的红色传承及其在马克思主义理论、科学社会主义和国际共产主义运动学科建设方面的深厚底蕴与突出优势。他指出，站在“两个一百年”奋斗目标的历史节点上，科研工作者肩负重要的学术使命，本次论坛要深化国际共产主义运动研究，深刻把握习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想对科学社会主义理论的创新性发展和原创性贡献，以学术智慧服务时代发展。

In his address, Luo Wendong, Researcher and Party Secretary of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, introduced the institute’s profound academic accumulation, series of research achievements, and effectiveness in think tank construction in the disciplinary construction of scientific socialism and the international communist movement. He pointed out that the development of socialism from utopian socialism to scientific socialism has composed a magnificent epic of the international communist movement and has had a significant and far-reaching impact on the modern historical process of the world. Facing the changes unseen in a century, the forum should deeply explore new situations and new problems emerging in the development of socialism, contributing wisdom and strength to constructing China’s independent disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system for the international communist movement, and to advancing Chinese-path modernization.

Professor Liu Huachu of the School of Marxism at Fudan University delivered a keynote speech titled “A Contemporary Rethinking of ‘Leaping Over the Caudine Forks’[2]2 “Leaping over the Caudine Forks” is a classical allusion to a Roman military defeat, used by Marx and Engels to discuss the possibility of a society bypassing the capitalist stage of development under certain conditions. — A Study of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Based on Symptomatic Reading.”

On the afternoon of November 1, following the breakout sessions, a plenary exchange and reporting session was held. Focusing on topics such as “The Process and Contributions of World Socialism and Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” “Historical Experiences and Lessons of the International Communist Movement,” “The Current Situation and Development Trends of Socialism Abroad,” and “New Changes in Contemporary Capitalism and Their Relationship with Socialism,” experts and scholars engaged in further exchange speeches. In her concluding remarks, Researcher Liu Haixia, Deputy Director of the International Communist Movement Research Department of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out that the breakout sessions were lively in atmosphere and deep in discussion. Through full exchange of views and intellectual collision, scholars put forward a series of constructive policy suggestions on key issues, demonstrating the academic community’s profound grasp of frontier issues in the field of the international communist movement.

11月1日下午，举行分论坛之后，开展大会汇报交流。围绕“世界社会主义与中国特色社会主义的进程与贡献”“国际共产主义运动的历史经验教训”“国外社会主义的现状与发展趋势”“当代资本主义新变化及其与社会主义的关系”等议题，专家学者又做了进一步的交流发言。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共产主义运动研究部副主任刘海霞研究员在总结发言中指出，各分论坛气氛热烈，讨论深入，学者们通过充分的观点交锋与思想碰撞，针对关键问题提出了一系列建设性对策建议，彰显了学界对国际共产主义运动领域前沿问题的深刻把握。

On the morning of November 2, the forum held a special seminar on the disciplinary construction of scientific socialism and the international communist movement. The seminar was chaired by Professor Wang Xuejun of the Faculty of Marxism at Northeast Normal University and Pan Xihua, Director of the Office of the History of the International Communist Movement at the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Experts and scholars from universities and research institutions including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shandong University, Taiyuan University of Technology, Fujian Normal University, and Liaocheng University, as well as young scholar representatives from universities including Renmin University of China, the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhejiang University, and Northeast Normal University, participated in the seminar. The attending scholars shared their research progress and insights in related fields, focusing on the basic experience and future prospects of the disciplinary construction of scientific socialism and the international communist movement.

11月2日上午，论坛围绕科学社会主义与国际共产主义运动学科建设举行了专题研讨会。研讨会由东北师范大学马克思主义学部王学军教授、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共运史研究室主任潘西华主持。来自中国社会科学院、山东大学、太原理工大学、福建师范大学、聊城大学等高校和科研院所的专家学者和来自中国人民大学、中国社会科学院大学、浙江大学、东北师范大学等高校的青年学者代表参加研讨会。与会学者围绕科学社会主义与国际共产主义运动学科建设的基本经验与未来展望，分享了自己在相关领域的研究进展与心得体会。

Professor Meng Xiansheng, Dean of the Faculty of Marxism at Northeast Normal University, in his concluding remarks, fully affirmed the profound insights of the attending experts and scholars in theoretical innovation and practical exploration. He pointed out that this conference achieved a high degree of unity between political nature and academic nature, gave due consideration to both interdisciplinary integration and an international perspective, and yielded research results that possess both academic value and practical significance, reflecting profound ideological depth, frontier orientation, and innovation. This has important and far-reaching significance for continuing academic traditions, expanding research space, and promoting disciplinary development.

Researcher Yuan Xiuli, Director of the Research Department of the International Communist Movement at the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out in her summary of the conference that the submitted papers for this conference demonstrated a broad research horizon, fully covering the historical trajectory and contemporary development of world socialism over five hundred years. The speeches of the attending scholars reflected the inheritance of academic traditions and the vitality of young scholars. She also put forward suggestions and expectations to the attending scholars on aspects such as consolidating basic theoretical research, deepening the exploration of the international significance of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and paying attention to new changes in world socialism and capitalism. She called on the academic community to strengthen exchanges and collaboration, form a joint force, and jointly promote the study of scientific socialism and the international communist movement to show a new outlook.
