The Fifth New Era Marxist Atheism Education Symposium Held at Xinjiang University

On August 29, the Fifth New Era Marxist Atheism Education Symposium was successfully held at Xinjiang University. Experts and scholars from research institutions and institutions of higher learning, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Southeast University, Shihezi University, Xinjiang Agricultural University, Xinjiang Medical University, Xinjiang Normal University, Changji University, Xinjiang Teachers College (Xinjiang Institute of Education), and member units of the Ministry of Education’s Integrated Community for Ideological and Political Courses in Universities, Middle Schools, and Primary Schools (Xinjiang), participated in this symposium.

8月29日，第五届新时代马克思主义无神论教育研讨会在新疆大学成功举行，来自中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、东南大学、石河子大学、新疆农业大学、新疆医科大学、新疆师范大学、昌吉学院、新疆师范高等专科学校（新疆教育学院）等研究机构、高等院校和教育部大中小学思政课一体化共同体（新疆）成员单位的专家学者参加了本届研讨会。

Dai Bin, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xinjiang University, and Li Jianjun, First-Level Inspector of the Education and Work Committee of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and the Autonomous Region Department of Education, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Luo Wendong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Chairman of the Chinese Atheism Society, delivered a video speech. He Xinyuan, Director of the Department of Research on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Atheism Society, presided over the opening ceremony.

新疆大学党委书记代斌，自治区党委教育工委、自治区教育厅一级巡视员李建军出席开幕式并致辞，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院党委书记、中国无神论学会理事长罗文东作视频致辞。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义中国化研究部主任、中国无神论学会副理事长贺新元主持开幕式。

Dai Bin expressed gratitude to the Chinese Atheism Society and the Autonomous Region Department of Education for their guidance and support for this conference. He emphasized that doing a good job in the propaganda and education of Marxist atheism in Xinjiang concerns ideological security, concerns social stability and lasting peace, and concerns forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, making its significance particularly great. He expressed the hope that this symposium would serve as a bond to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation among universities, research institutions, and experts and scholars, jointly advance the construction of the disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system of Marxist atheism adapted to the Chinese context, jointly consolidate the foundation of a scientific worldview among young students of all ethnic groups, and make new and greater contributions to building a beautiful Xinjiang in the process of Chinese-path modernization and to writing a Xinjiang chapter in the great endeavor of building a strong country and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

代斌向中国无神论学会、自治区教育厅对本次会议给予的指导和支持表示感谢，强调新疆做好马克思主义无神论宣传教育事关意识形态安全、事关社会稳定和长治久安、事关铸牢中华民族共同体意识，意义尤为重大。他希望以本次研讨会为纽带，进一步加强各高校、科研机构和专家学者的交流合作，共同推进中国化马克思主义无神论学科体系、学术体系和话语体系建设，共同筑牢各族青年学生的科学世界观根基，为在中国式现代化进程中建设美丽新疆、谱写强国建设和民族复兴伟业的新疆篇章作出新的更大贡献。

Luo Wendong stated that the Chinese Atheism Society has long supported atheism research in Xinjiang and actively cooperated with Xinjiang universities in holding multiple academic symposia. On behalf of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the managing unit of the society, he put forward four opinions on further supporting the cause of atheism: first, continuously increase support for the construction of the discipline of scientific atheism; second, promote the deepening of cooperation between the society and Xinjiang University; third, support the journal *Science and Atheism* in promptly showcasing the latest achievements of atheism research and propaganda education in Xinjiang; fourth, support Xinjiang in exploring an atheism education model with Chinese characteristics. Regarding further cooperation between the Chinese Atheism Society and Xinjiang’s academic community, he raised five hopes: firming up the political direction, strengthening disciplinary responsibility, enhancing the effectiveness of policy advice, deepening win-win cooperation, and strengthening team building. He stated that the Chinese Atheism Society will, as always, support the cause of atheism in Xinjiang, working hand in hand with Xinjiang University to jointly push the research and propaganda education work of Marxist atheism to new heights.

罗文东表示，中国无神论学会长期支持新疆无神论研究，积极联合新疆高校举办多场学术研讨会。他代表学会代管单位中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院就进一步支持无神论事业提出四点意见：第一，持续加大对科学无神论学科建设的支持力度；第二，推动学会与新疆大学的合作向纵深发展；第三，支持《科学与无神论》期刊及时展示新疆无神论研究和宣传教育的最新成果；第四，支持新疆探索具有中国特色的无神论教育模式。关于中国无神论学会与新疆学术界的进一步合作，他提出坚定政治方向、强化学科担当、提升资政效能、深化合作共赢、加强队伍建设等五点希望。他表示，中国无神论学会将一如既往地支持新疆的无神论事业，与新疆大学携手并肩，共同把马克思主义无神论的研究和宣传教育工作推向新的高度。

Li Jianping pointed out that strengthening Marxist atheism education is a foundational project for implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and resisting the infiltration of religious extremism. It directly concerns the fundamental educational question of “what kind of people to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom to cultivate them,” and concerns the shaping of young people’s scientific worldview, outlook on life, and values. The Education and Work Committee of the Autonomous Region Party Committee and the Autonomous Region Department of Education deeply study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, persistently exerting effort and making unremitting efforts, fully leveraging the leading and radiating role of university Marxist academies and expert teams, promoting the extension of high-quality atheism education resources to the grassroots level and tilting them toward southern Xinjiang; comprehensively enhancing the atheism education and teaching capabilities of grassroots teachers, building a backbone team for atheism education and teaching that is politically strong, emotionally deep, innovative in thinking, and proficient in professional skills; establishing special projects around key and difficult issues such as the theoretical system of atheism education and the integrated practical pathways for universities, middle schools, and primary schools, encouraging and supporting frontline teachers and researchers to conduct teaching and research breakthroughs, producing more generalizable theoretical results and practical experiences, and continuously enhancing the academic depth and practical effectiveness of atheism education in Xinjiang.

李建军指出，加强马克思主义无神论教育，是贯彻落实习近平总书记重要讲话精神、抵御宗教极端思想渗透的基础性工程，直接关系“培养什么人、怎样培养人、为谁培养人”这一教育根本问题，事关青少年科学世界观人生观价值观塑造。自治区党委教育工委、自治区教育厅深入学习贯彻习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想，持续用力、久久为功，充分发挥高校马克思主义学院和专家团队的引领辐射作用，推动优质无神论教育资源向基层延伸、向南疆倾斜；全面提升基层教师无神论教育教学能力，打造一支政治强、情怀深、思维新、业务精的无神论教育教学骨干队伍；围绕无神论教育的理论体系、大中小学一体化实践路径等重点难点问题设立专项课题，鼓励支持一线教师和研究人员开展教研攻关，产出更多可推广的理论成果和实践经验，不断提升新疆无神论教育的学术厚度和实践效度。

This symposium was guided by the Department of Education of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, hosted by the Chinese Atheism Society and Xinjiang University, organized by the School of Marxism of Xinjiang University, and co-organized by the editorial department of *Science and Atheism*, among others.
