“Reform and Opening Up and World Socialism in the 21st Century” International Symposium Call for Papers

In November 2017, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Vietnam. During this visit, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences jointly signed the “Academic Exchange Cooperation Agreement between the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences,” which served as an important cooperation document signed between the two countries during Xi Jinping’s visit to Vietnam. To implement this important agreement, in 2018 the two academies of social sciences designated “A Comparative Study of 40 Years of China’s Reform and Opening Up and 32 Years of Vietnam’s Renovation (Đổi Mới)” as the cooperative research project for that year.

2017年11月，中共中央总书记、国家主席习近平总书记对越南进行了国事访问。期间，中国社会科学院与越南社会科学翰林院共同签署了《中国社会科学院与越南社会科学翰林院学术交流合作协议》，该协议作为习近平总书记访问越南期间两国签订的一项重要合作文件。为落实这项重要协议，2018年，中越两国社科院将“中国改革开放40年与越南革新32年比较研究”确定为本年两院合作研究项目。

2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up and the 32nd anniversary of the launch of the renovation process in Vietnam and Laos. An in-depth summary of the historical process and practical experience of reform and opening up (renovation) is of great significance for further deepening the reform and opening up (renovation) of socialist countries and for the development of the world socialist movement. To implement the cooperative research agreement between the Chinese and Vietnamese academies of social sciences, and simultaneously to summarize and look ahead to the historical experience of socialist reform and opening up (renovation) and the development process of world socialism, after consultation this research project has decided to invite scholars from socialist countries including China, Vietnam, and Laos to discuss this theme.

2018年是中国改革开放40周年，也是越南和老挝启动革新进程32周年，深入总结改革开放（革新）的历史进程和实践经验，对进一步深化社会主义国家的改革开放（革新）和世界社会主义运动的发展都具有十分重要的意义。为了落实中越两国社会科学院合作研究协议，同时对社会主义改革开放（革新）的历史经验和世界社会主义发展进程进行总结和展望，经过商议，本研究项目决定邀请中国、越南和老挝等社会主义国家的学者就此主题进行商讨。

To this end, we plan to hold an international symposium with the theme “Reform and Opening Up and World Socialism in the 21st Century” in Beijing, China, on November 1, 2018 (registration on October 31). The symposium scale will be approximately 100 people, and the working languages will be Chinese and Vietnamese.

为此，我们计划于2018年11月1日（10月31日报到）在中国北京举行主题为“改革开放与21世纪世界社会主义”国际研讨会。会议规模为100人左右，会议语言为中文和越南语。

The organizers will adopt a combination of targeted invitations to renowned experts and participation based on submitted papers, inviting leaders and well-known scholars from the academies of social sciences of China, Vietnam, and Laos to attend. At the same time, experts and scholars from relevant fields in domestic universities and research institutions are welcome to write symposium papers on the above topics. Please send the electronic version of the submitted paper (within 10,000 characters) and its abstract (around 500 characters) to the symposium group email address by October 12, 2018. We will select the papers, notify the authors of selected papers of participation by October 17, and recommend the best for publication. The paper format should follow the journal *Marxist Studies*. The symposium will not charge a registration fee; travel expenses are to be borne by participants.

主办方将采取定向邀请著名专家和以文参会相结合的形式，邀请中国、越南和老挝三国社科院领导和知名学者出席，同时欢迎国内各高校和研究机构相关领域的专家学者就上述议题撰写参会论文。请大家将应征论文于2018年10月12日前将论文（1万字以内）及其摘要（500字左右）的电子版发送至会务组邮箱。我们将对论文进行遴选，10月17日前通知论文入选者参会，同时择优推荐发表。论文格式请参考《马克思主义研究》杂志。会议不收会务费，差旅费自理。
