Invitation Letter for the High-Level Forum “Marxism in Contemporary China: Theory and Practice”

To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Marx’s birth and the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up, to implement the requirements of the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council’s “Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities under the New Situation” (Central Document [2016] No. 31) [1]1 Central Document [2016] No. 31 is a directive issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council in 2016 to strengthen Party control over ideological and political education in universities., to continuously promote the innovative development of Marxist theory and the disciplinary construction of Marxist theory, and to effectively strengthen confidence in the theory, path, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Jiangsu Normal University plan to host the High-Level Forum “Marxism in Contemporary China: Theory and Practice” in Xuzhou from November 16 to 18, inviting experts from relevant domestic fields for discussion. The relevant matters of the conference are hereby notified as follows:

为纪念马克思诞辰200周年、中国改革开放40周年，贯彻落实中共中央、国务院《关于加强和改进新形势下高校思想政治工作的意见》(中发[2016]31号)文件要求，不断推动马克思主义理论创新发展和马克思主义理论学科建设，切实增强中国特色社会主义理论、道路、制度、文化自信，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、江苏师范大学拟于11月16-18日在徐州主办“马克思主义在当代中国的理论与实践”的高层论坛，邀请国内相关领域的专家进行研讨。现将会议有关事宜通知如下：

To implement the spirit of the Central Committee’s “Eight-Point Regulations” [3]3 The Eight-Point Regulations are a set of 2012 CPC Central Committee rules aimed at curbing bureaucracy, extravagance, and formalism among Party officials., the conference generally does not provide pick-up and drop-off services. To control the scale of the conference, please try not to bring students to the meeting.
