Call for Papers: The Seventh Scientific Atheism Forum

The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Scientific Atheism Forum is hosted by the Leading Group for the Construction and Research Project of Marxist Theory of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Research Center for Science and Atheism and the Chinese Atheism Society. The Seventh Scientific Atheism Forum is co-organized by Xinjiang Normal University and is scheduled to be held from June 22 to 23, 2019, in Urumqi, Xinjiang. The theme of this forum is “Promoting the Spirit of Scientific Atheism and Forging a Strong Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation.”

中国社会科学院科学无神论论坛由中国社会科学院马克思主义理论学科建设与理论研究工程领导小组主办，中国社会科学院科学与无神论研究中心和中国无神论学会联合承办。第七届科学无神论论坛由新疆师范大学协办，预定于2019年6月22至23日在新疆乌鲁木齐市举办。本届论坛的主题为“弘扬科学无神论精神，铸牢中华民族共同体意识”。

Scientific atheism is the crystallization of the civilization and thought of human society. As the starting point and cornerstone of the Marxist worldview, scientific atheism has entered the practice of the scientific socialist movement from the realm of ideology and culture. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the Central Conference on Ethnic Work held in 2014: “To strengthen the great unity of the Chinese nation, the long-term and fundamental approach is to enhance cultural identity, build a common spiritual home for all ethnic groups, and actively cultivate a sense of community for the Chinese nation.” [1]1 The Central Conference on Ethnic Work, held in 2014, was a high-level meeting convened by the CPC Central Committee to address ethnic relations and policies. This was the first time the Party Central Committee used the concept of “community for the Chinese nation.” This represents a revolutionary shift in the current thinking on the governance of China’s ethnic issues. The report of the 19th National Congress of the CPC stated: “Forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and strengthen exchanges, interactions, and integration among all ethnic groups.” [2]2 The 19th National Congress of the CPC was held in October 2017, where Xi Jinping delivered a report outlining the This was the first time a Party congress proposed “forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.” In 2018, during the revision of the constitution at the Two Sessions of the National People’s Congress, “the Chinese nation” was formally written into China’s constitution for the first time. [3] “Promoting the spirit of scientific atheism and forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation” is the historical mission entrusted to us by the New Era.

科学无神论是人类社会文明与思考的结晶。科学无神论作为马克思主义世界观的出发点和基石，由思想文化领域进入科学社会主义运动的实践。习近平总书记在2014年召开的中央民族工作会议上指出：“加强中华民族大团结，长远和根本的是增强文化认同，建设各民族共有精神家园，积极培养中华民族共同体意识。”这是党中央首度使用“中华民族共同体”的概念。这是当前中国民族问题治理思路的革命性转变。党的十九大报告指出：“铸牢中华民族共同体意识，加强各民族交往交流交融。”这是党的代表大会第一次提出“铸牢中华民族共同体意识”。2018年全国两会修宪，“中华民族”第一次正式被写入我国宪法。“弘扬科学无神论精神，铸牢中华民族共同体意识”是新时代赋予我们的历史使命。

The forum operates on the principle of “participation based on submitted papers.” Experts and scholars from national research institutions, universities, Party schools, and cadre colleges, as well as comrades from practical work departments, are welcome to actively submit papers and attend. All submitted papers must be unpublished new works and include an abstract, keywords, author biography, correspondence address, postal code, contact phone number, and email address. The deadline for paper submissions is May 30, 2019. After expert review, we will send formal invitations to those whose papers are selected. Forum email: kxwslluntan@163.com.
