We are shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the unfortunate passing of Comrade Fang Keli, Member of the Academic Division of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, former President and Professor of the Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences!

惊悉中国社会科学院学部委员、中国社会科学院研究生院原院长、教授方克立先生不幸逝世，不胜震悼！

Comrade Fang Keli was not only a renowned Chinese philosopher, who achieved outstanding accomplishments in the fields of Chinese philosophy and the study of cultural trends in modern and contemporary China, exerting significant influence in academic circles both at home and abroad. He was also an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China and a steadfast Marxist scholar, who consistently devoted himself to researching and exploring issues of contemporary Chinese cultural construction from the standpoint, viewpoint, and method of Marxism. He put forward the correct proposition of “taking Marxist studies as the soul, Chinese studies as the substance, Western studies as the function, merging the three currents into one, and achieving comprehensive innovation,” [1]1 This is a formulation by Fang Keli that synthesizes three cultural resources: Marxism (“soul”), traditional Chinese culture (“substance”), and Western learning (“function”), advocating their integration and creative development. advancing the Marxist comprehensive and innovative view of culture to a new stage, pointing out the realistic path and direction for the development of contemporary Chinese culture, and representing an important theoretical achievement in Marxist cultural studies.

方克立先生不仅是著名的中国哲学家，在中国哲学与中国近现代以来的文化思潮研究领域成就卓著，在海内外学界都具有重大影响。他更是一名优秀的中国共产党的党员和坚定的马克思主义学者，始终致力于以马克思主义的立场、观点、方法，研究和探索当代中国文化建设问题，提出了“马学为魂，中学为体，西学为用，三流合一，综合创新”的正确主张，把马克思主义综合创新文化观推进到一个新阶段，指明了当代中国文化发展的现实道路与方向，是马克思主义文化研究的重要理论成果。

Since 2005, Comrade Fang Keli has served as a Distinguished Research Fellow of our Institute, and for many years has consistently cared for and supported our Institute’s development. He provided meticulous guidance for some major research projects undertaken by our Institute, making important contributions to the improvement of our Institute’s research standards and the growth of its research personnel. Comrade Fang Keli was rigorous in scholarship, of high moral prestige and advanced age, yet approachable and tireless in teaching others. His knowledge, scholarly style, moral character, and writings are all deeply admired and respected by all our colleagues.

方克立先生自2005年以来一直担任我院的特聘研究员，多年来始终关心和支持我院的发展。他对我院承担的一些重大研究项目给予悉心指导，为我院科研水平的提高与科研人员的成长都做出了重要贡献。方克立先生治学严谨，德高望重，而又平易近人，诲人不倦，其学识、学风、道德文章，皆深为我院全体同仁所钦敬和仰慕。

As a renowned Chinese philosopher and a leading figure in the Marxist comprehensive and innovative view of culture, the passing of Comrade Fang Keli is a great loss to the Chinese philosophical community and the Marxist academic community. Our Institute hereby expresses its profound condolences and extends its deep sympathy to Comrade Fang’s family and relatives!

作为著名的中国哲学家及马克思主义综合创新文化观的领军人物，方克立先生的逝世是中国哲学界与马克思主义学界的重大损失。我院谨致以沉痛哀悼，并向方先生的家人亲友表示深切慰问！
