Academic Symposium on “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the Contemporary International Communist Movement” and Review Meeting of the “Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)” Convened in Xiamen

On December 6, the Academic Symposium on “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the Contemporary International Communist Movement” and the Review Meeting of the “Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)” were jointly convened in Xiamen by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the School of Marxism of Huaqiao University, and the School of Politics and International Relations of Central China Normal University. More than forty experts and scholars from research institutions and universities including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Shandong University, Central China Normal University, Huaqiao University, Fujian Normal University, Xiamen University, Yunnan University, Yunnan Agricultural University, Jimei University, Fujian Jiangxia University, and Shaanxi Normal University attended the symposium. Professor Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Researcher Pan Jin’e, Director of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies, as well as members of the department and the research group for the *Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)* participated in the meeting.

12月6日，由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共运研究部、华侨大学马克思主义学院、华中师范大学政治与国际关系学院联合主办的“新时代中国特色社会主义与当代国际共运学术研讨会” 暨“国际共运黄皮书（2020-2021）审议会”在厦门召开。来自中国社会科学院、中共中央对外联络部、中共中央党校（国家行政学院）、上海社会科学院、中国人民大学、山东大学、华中师范大学、华侨大学、福建师范大学、厦门大学、云南大学、云南农业大学、集美大学、福建江夏学院和陕西师范大学等科研机构和高校的40余名专家学者出席了本次研讨会。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长林建华教授、国际共产主义运动研究部主任潘金娥研究员以及马研院共运部和《国际共产主义运动黄皮书（2020-2021）》课题组成员参加了会议。

The symposium was divided into two thematic sessions, morning and afternoon. The morning session discussed “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the Contemporary International Communist Movement”; the afternoon session reviewed the drafting of the *Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)*.

研讨会分为上午和下午两个主题。上午就“新时代中国特色社会主义与当代国际共运”问题进行研讨，下午就国际共运黄皮书（2020-2021）的撰写进行审议。

The opening ceremony of the morning symposium was presided over by Gao Bingliang, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Marxism of Huaqiao University. Speeches were delivered successively by Zeng Lu, Vice President of Huaqiao University; Professor Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; and Professor Wang Jianguo, Vice Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations of Central China Normal University.

上午的研讨会开幕式由华侨大学马克思主义学院党委书记高炳亮主持，华侨大学副校长曾路、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长林建华教授、华中师范大学政治与国际关系学院副院长王建国教授先后致辞。

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Vice President Zeng Lu of Huaqiao University introduced the university’s connection with the discipline of international communist movement studies. Huaqiao University’s master’s program in scientific socialism and the international communist movement was established in 1990 and was once the earliest humanities master’s program at the university; the doctoral program was established in 2006 and was once the only doctoral program in a secondary-level discipline in Fujian Province. In recent years, the university has mainly relied on its School of Marxism to conduct research on the international communist movement and related disciplines through talent recruitment, research training programs in Marxist theory, and the establishment of research institutes. Huaqiao University attaches great importance to the construction of the discipline of Marxist theory and ideological-political theory courses, granting the School special policy support including faculty and funding. It requires the School to firmly grasp the fundamental system of Marxism’s guiding position in the ideological sphere, to remember that the School of Marxism belongs to Marxism and speaks for Marxism, and to strive to combine polishing the most distinctive foundation of Chinese universities with polishing the brand of Huaqiao University, making due contributions to the university’s ideological-political work, Party building, and overseas united front work.

华侨大学曾路副校长在开幕式上致辞中介绍了华侨大学与国际共运学科的渊源。华侨大学的科学社会主义与国际共产主义运动硕士点创办于1990年，曾经是全校最早的文科硕士点，博士点创办于2006年，曾经是福建省唯一开设二级学科的博士点。近年来，学校主要依托马克思主义学院从人才引进、马克思主义理论学科研究培养方案以及成立研究机构等方面从事国际共运以及相关学科的研究。华侨大学高度重视马克思主义理论学科和思想政治理论课的建设，给予学院在政策上包括师资、经费上的特殊倾斜，要求学院牢牢把握马克思主义在意识形态领域指导地位的根本制度，牢记马院姓马，在马言马，努力把擦亮我国大学最鲜亮的底色和擦亮华侨大学的招牌结合起来，为学校的思政、党建、海外统战工作做出应有贡献。

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Professor Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, first emphasized that the Academic Symposium on “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the Contemporary International Communist Movement” is a major event of great value and significance this year for China’s academic circles in the history of the international communist movement and the discipline of Marxist theory. He then addressed the following aspects: First, we bear the important task of narrating to the overseas world the new thoughts, new strategies, and new practices of the CPC’s governance in the New Era. Second, we must summarize, cherish, and write about socialism with Chinese characteristics. Third, the spirit of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic—which shaped values of putting life first, national solidarity, sacrificing oneself for others, respecting science, and sharing a common destiny—demonstrates the CPC’s appeal, leadership, centripetal force, cohesion, and combat effectiveness, and demonstrates the significant advantages of the socialist system, especially the system of socialism with Chinese characteristics. Fourth, the history of the international communist movement is a great historical process, under the guidance of Marxism and the leadership of communist parties, in which the proletariat and working people of the world have sought human liberation. Fifth, in conducting research we must “look back and look forward”; “looking back” means examining history and summing up experience; “looking forward” means looking to the future, grasping laws, grasping trends, and grasping situations. Sixth, to walk the Chinese path well, we must clarify its origins and development, sum up experience, and grasp laws. Finally, Dean Lin Jianhua pointed out that the history of the international communist movement contains two aspects: first, history itself; second, the understanding and writing of the history of the international communist movement. Therefore, we bear the important task of transmitting history: first, recording history; second, evaluating history.

中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长林建华教授在开幕式致辞中，首先强调了新时代中国特色社会主义与当代国际共运学术研讨会是今年我国国际共运史学界和马克思主义理论学科的一大盛事，极有价值，极有意义。接着，他主要谈到以下几个方面：其一，我们负有向海外讲述新时代中国共产党治国理政新思想、新战略、新实践的重任。其二，总结、珍惜、书写中国特色社会主义。其三，抗击新冠肺炎疫情所塑造的生命至上、举国同心、舍生忘死、尊重科学、命运与共的抗疫精神，彰显了中国共产党的号召力、引领力、向心力、凝聚力和战斗力，彰显了社会主义制度特别是中国特色社会主义制度的显著优势。其四，一部国际共产主义运动史是在马克思主义指导下、在共产党领导下，全世界无产阶级和劳动者为人类求解放的伟大历史进程。其五，我们做研究要“瞻前顾后”，“顾后”就是看历史，总结经验；“瞻前”就是看未来，把握规律，把握趋势，把握态势；其六，走好中国道路，要弄清来龙去脉，总结经验，把握规律。最后，林建华院长指出，国际共产主义运动史包含两方面内容：一是历史本身；二是对国际共运史的认识和书写。因此，我们肩负着传承历史的重任：一是记录历史；二是对历史进行评价。

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Professor Wang Jianguo of Central China Normal University first introduced the disciplinary development history of the scientific socialism and international communist movement program at the School of Politics and International Relations of Central China Normal University, and put forward some ideas for related work.

研讨会的第一阶段由华侨大学马克思主义学院院长林怀艺教授主持。中共中央对外联络部当代世界研究中心柴尚金研究员、中共中央党校（国家行政学院）胡振良教授、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长林建华教授、山东大学当代社会主义研究所所长崔桂田教授、中国人民大学国际关系学院世界社会主义研究所所长郭春生教授、上海社会科学院中国马克思主义研究所副所长轩传树研究员、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院国际共运部主任潘金娥研究员、福建师范大学郑传芳教授、华中师范大学政治与国际关系学院副院长王建国教授、华侨大学马克思主义学院院长林怀艺教授等专家先后就国际共产主义运动发展的新态势、新变化、新特征，中国特色社会主义与当代世界社会主义的关系，当代国际共产主义运动的理论和实践、国际共运学科的发展等问题做了发言。

The second phase of the meeting was the Review Meeting for the *Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)*. Researcher Pan Jin’e of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Researcher Xuan Chuanshu of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences presided over the meeting in turn. Researcher Pan Jin’e first introduced the background, approach, topic selection, and preparatory work for the *Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement (2020–2021)*. Subsequently, the participating authors reported one by one on their writing ideas, content frameworks, main viewpoints, and existing problems for the thematic reports they were responsible for. After that, the attending experts commented on each thematic report and offered suggestions for improvement. Associate Senior Editor Zhu Debin of the Social Sciences Academic Press (China), who is responsible for coordinating the Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement, explained the writing style and requirements for the Yellow Book. The model adopted by the Yellow Book on the International Communist Movement, in which expert groups provide one-on-one guidance on thematic reports, offered new methods and new ideas for the Yellow Book’s writing, both training the team and ensuring the quality of the articles. This model received high recognition from the leadership of the Social Sciences Academic Press, peer experts, and the Yellow Book authors.

会议的第二阶段是《2020-2021年国际共产主义运动黄皮书》审议会。中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院潘金娥研究员和上海社科院轩传树研究员先后主持会议。潘金娥研究员首先就《2020-2021年国际共产主义运动黄皮书》的撰写背景、思路、选题和前期准备情况做了介绍，随后，与会作者逐一对自己负责专题报告的写作思路、内容框架、主要观点和存在的问题进行了汇报，之后由与会专家逐一对专题报告进行点评并提出完善意见。社会科学文献出版社负责国际共运黄皮书统筹工作的祝得彬副编审对国际共运黄皮书的写作体例和要求进行了说明。国际共运黄皮书采取的由专家组对专题报告一对一指导的模式，为皮书的撰写提供了新方法新思路，既锻炼了队伍又保证了文章的质量，得到了社科文献出版社领导和同行专家、皮书作者们的高度认可。

Finally, Vice President Lin Jianhua gave a brief summary. He emphasized that each author should earnestly absorb the experts’ review comments, make revisions and improvements on that basis, and strengthen communication with their guiding experts. With this, the symposium concluded with complete success.

最后，林建华副院长做了简单总结，他强调各位作者要对专家的点评意见认真吸收，在此基础上进行修改和完善，加强与指导专家的联系。至此，本次研讨会取得了圆满成功。
