2021 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education Held at Inner Mongolia Normal University

In 2021, as we celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, the National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education also marks its tenth anniversary. At this important moment of national celebration, to commemorate the centenary of the founding of the CPC, to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the ceremony marking the centenary of the CPC, to use Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to forge souls and educate people, to promote the innovative development of ideological and political education in the New Era, and to effectively enhance the effectiveness of ideological and political education, the 2021 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education was held at Inner Mongolia Normal University on July 18. This conference was co-hosted by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Propaganda Department of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, and Inner Mongolia Normal University; organized by the Research Department of Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context and the Needs of the Times of the Academy of Marxism of CASS and the School of Marxism of Inner Mongolia Normal University; and co-organized by *Marxist Studies*, *Journal of Ideological and Theoretical Education*, *Ideological and Political Education Research*, *Research on Ideological and Political Education*, and the School of Marxism of the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

2021年，喜迎中国共产党百年华诞，恰逢全国思想政治教育学术研讨会举办十周年。在举国同庆的重要时刻，为纪念中国共产党成立百年，深入学习贯彻习近平总书记在庆祝中国共产党成立100周年大会上的重要讲话精神，用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想铸魂育人，推进新时代思想政治教育创新发展，切实提高思想政治教育实效性，7月18日，2021年全国思想政治教育学术研讨会在内蒙古师范大学召开。此次会议由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、内蒙古自治区党委宣传部、内蒙古师范大学主办，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义中国化研究部、内蒙古师范大学马克思主义学院承办，《马克思主义研究》《思想理论教育导刊》《思想教育研究》《思想政治教育研究》、中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院共同协办。

On behalf of the Academy of Marxism of CASS, Xin Xiangyang extended a warm welcome to the experts and scholars attending the conference, expressed sincere gratitude to Inner Mongolia Normal University for hosting the event, and paid high tribute to the teachers and scholars working diligently in the field of ideological and political education. He pointed out that ideological and political education is the lifeline of all work. The fundamental reason why Chinese Communists can unite and lead the Chinese people to blaze great paths, create great undertakings, and achieve great successes is that they have Marxism as their guide to action, which is inseparable from our Party’s consistent emphasis on ideological and political education. In the New Era, ideological and political education must take history as a mirror, draw wisdom and strength from history for the great rejuvenation, and open up new prospects for ideological and political education. First, we must adhere to the guidance of Marxism and its theories adapted to the Chinese context, fully unleashing the immense ideological power of scientific theory. Second, we must carry forward the great founding spirit of the Party and continue the red bloodline, providing an inexhaustible spiritual force for taking the new road of the examination in the New Era. [1]1 “Taking the new road of the examination” (走好新时代赶考路) is a metaphor derived from Mao Zedong’s remark on the eve of the CPC’s entry into Beijing in 1949, comparing the Party’s governance to a new imperial examination; it is frequently Third, we must integrate “understanding the principles through history” into the teaching of political theory courses, inspiring the youth’s striving force to work for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. He stated that, going forward, the Academy of Marxism of CASS will continue to adhere to an open-door approach in running the academy, actively expand exchanges and cooperation with universities, research and teaching institutions, and the broader community of experts and scholars, and jointly make unremitting efforts to promote the construction of the Marxist disciplinary system, academic system, and teaching system, and to develop contemporary Chinese Marxism and Marxism in the 21st century.

Entrusted by Comrade Lin Shaochun, Deputy Secretary of the Autonomous Region Party Committee, Zhang Zhaogang, on behalf of the Propaganda Department of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the experts for their arrival. He pointed out that ideological and political education is the Party’s fine tradition, distinctive feature, and prominent political advantage, and is the lifeline of all work. Strengthening and improving ideological and political education concerns the Party’s future and destiny, the long-term stability of the country, and national cohesion and centripetal force. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has attached great importance to ideological and political education, adopting a series of major measures to effectively advance it. Ideological and political education has effectively played an important role in unifying thought, building consensus, inspiring morale, and uniting for struggle. In future work, it is hoped that educators will fully implement the Party’s educational policy, adhere to the socialist direction of running schools, take fostering virtue and nurturing talent as the fundamental task, insist on all-round, whole-process, and all-staff education, accelerate the construction of a school ideological and political work system, coordinate educational resources and forces such as school governance, teaching, and talent cultivation, and cultivate socialist builders and successors who are well-developed morally, intellectually, physically, aesthetically, and labor-wise. At the same time, we must fully leverage the main channel role of classroom teaching, promote the reform and innovation of ideological and political theory courses, deeply explore the educational functions of various disciplinary courses, and advance the integration of the Party’s innovative theories and revolutionary traditions into textbooks, classrooms, and minds; we must improve the mechanism for jointly managing the ideal and belief education of young people, guiding them to fasten the first button of their lives. On behalf of Inner Mongolia Normal University, Alatan Cang extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the experts for their arrival. He pointed out that currently, the entire Party and the whole country are deeply studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the ceremony marking the centenary of the CPC. The Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council have just issued the “Opinions on Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Work in the New Era.” Accordingly, we must transform the Party’s latest theoretical achievements, the General Secretary’s latest speech spirit, and the Party Central Committee’s latest deployment requirements into the latest resources for educating people for the Party and the country as quickly as possible. This is the essential meaning and mission of ideological and political education. In its nearly 70 years of running the school, Inner Mongolia Normal University has always adhered to the lifeline of ideological and political education, insisted on integrating soul-forging and education into the entire process of teaching and learning, and continuously promoted the effectiveness of the reform of curriculum-based ideological and political education and ideological and political theory courses. At the same time, as a university in an ethnic minority region, it focuses on the main line of ethnic work and prominently strengthens education on forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation. The first session of the “National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education” was held at Inner Mongolia Normal University in 2011. Ten years later, it returns to Inner Mongolia Normal University, fully reflecting the care and support of the leaders and academic colleagues of the “National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education” for Inner Mongolia Normal University and for the work of Inner Mongolia. Going forward, it is hoped that experts and scholars will continue to offer valuable opinions and suggestions for the construction of the Marxist discipline and ideological and political education at Inner Mongolia Normal University, and jointly make unremitting efforts to promote the integrity and innovation of ideological and political education in the New Era and to cultivate new generations capable of shouldering the task of national rejuvenation.

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education, the symposium conducted an award competition for outstanding papers. A total of 569 papers were received for this symposium. Through screening by nine experts, 78 articles were selected for participation. After two rounds of expert blind review organized by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Inner Mongolia Normal University, and a joint evaluation by the expert review committee, five first-prize, ten second-prize, and fifteen third-prize outstanding papers were selected. Li Chunhua, Researcher at the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered the concluding remarks for the conference. She believed that this symposium had three prominent characteristics: first, it was timely and of great significance; second, it gathered a galaxy of leading scholars and was unprecedented in scale; third, it focused on the theme with a broad perspective. In addition, she briefly introduced the situation of the symposium over the past ten years, expressed sincere gratitude to the universities, experts, and scholars who had cooperated, and stated that the symposium would continue to be well-organized in the future to contribute to the advancement of academic research on ideological and political education. Li Chunhui, Member of the Party Committee of Inner Mongolia Normal University, Director of the Propaganda Department, and Dean of the School of Marxism, presided over the closing ceremony.

As a flagship conference of the Institute of Marxism at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education has received strong support and widespread attention from industry experts and scholars over the past ten years, and has developed into a large-scale high-end annual academic conference in the field of ideological and political education nationwide.
