National Forum of Marxist Deans Special Symposium “The Centennial Glory of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Modernization” Convened

On December 12, 2021, the National Forum of Marxist Deans Special Symposium was convened in Beijing and Fuzhou, with the theme “The Centennial Glory of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Modernization.” This symposium was hosted by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Fujian Normal University, organized by the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Fujian Normal University, and co-organized by *Marxist Studies*, *Studies on World Socialism*, and *Theory and Review*. The meeting adopted a combination of online and offline formats. Researcher Jiang Hui, Vice President and Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Director of the Institute of Contemporary China Studies, and President of the Academy of Marxism; Liu Weize, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee; Lin Weifen, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chair of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Social Sciences; Professor Pan Yuteng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Fujian Normal University; and Researcher Liu Xiaoxin, Vice President of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, attended the opening ceremony. Jiang Hui, Pan Yuteng, and Liu Weize each delivered addresses. The opening ceremony was presided over by Researcher Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and President of the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

2021年12月12日，全国马克思主义院长论坛专题研讨会在北京和福州召开，论坛主题为“中国共产党百年辉煌与中国现代化”。本次论坛由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院和福建师范大学主办,中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院、福建师范大学马克思主义学院承办，《马克思主义研究》《世界社会主义研究》《理论与评论》协办，会议采用线上线下相结合的方式举行。中国社会科学院副院长、党组成员，当代中国研究所所长、马克思主义研究院院长姜辉研究员，福建省委宣传部副部长刘伟泽，福建省社会科学界联合会党组书记、副主席林蔚芬，福建师范大学党委书记潘玉腾教授，福建省社会科学院副院长刘小新研究员等出席开幕式，姜辉、潘玉腾、刘伟泽分别作了致辞。开幕式由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院党委书记、副院长，中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院院长辛向阳研究员主持。

In his address, Jiang Hui pointed out that the National Forum of Marxist Deans Special Symposium is an important academic event jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the university front, aimed at deeply studying, comprehending, researching, and elucidating the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC [1]1 The Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC was held in November 2021; it adopted a landmark resolution on the Party’s major achievements and historical experience over the past century., and deeply exploring the major theoretical and practical issues raised in the plenary session’s *Resolution* [2]2 The *Resolution* refers to the “Resolution on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party over the Past Century” adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee., in order to actively contribute efforts and wisdom to promoting the Party’s theoretical innovation and continuing to develop Marxism for contemporary China and Marxism for the twenty-first century. Jiang Hui noted that this symposium focuses on the two major topics of “the centennial glory of the Communist Party of China” and “Chinese modernization,” with profound implications and a lofty standpoint. It will certainly help us, guided by the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee, to draw lessons from a century of historical glory, absorb strength and wisdom, consolidate ideological consensus, and promote theoretical innovation. Jiang Hui called on experts and scholars: first, to deeply study the major achievements and historical experience of our Party’s century-long struggle, draw historical wisdom, enhance historical confidence, and be filled with forward-moving strength; second, to deeply study the significant significance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in achieving a new historical leap in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context [3]3 “Adapting Marxism to the Chinese context” (马克思主义中国化) is the official term for the process of applying Marxist theory to China’s specific conditions; the phrase “new leap” here refers to the claim that Xi Jinping Thought represents a further stage in this process., its important position in the history of the development of Marxism, and its original contributions to developing Marxism for the twenty-first century; third, to deeply study the major significance of the Communist Party of China in creating the path of Chinese-path modernization and creating a new form of human civilization, and its immense contributions to the history of human social development and the history of human civilizational progress.

姜辉在致辞中指出，全国马克思主义院长论坛专题研讨会是中国社会科学院携手高校战线举办的一次重要学术活动，旨在深入学习领会和研究阐释党的十九届六中全会精神，深入探讨全会《决议》中提出的重大理论和现实问题，为推动党的理论创新，继续发展当代中国马克思主义、二十一世纪马克思主义积极努力、贡献智慧。姜辉指出，本次论坛聚焦“中国共产党百年辉煌”和“中国现代化”两大议题，意蕴深厚，立足高远，必将有助于我们以十九届六中全会精神为指引，从百年历史辉煌中总结经验，汲取力量和智慧，凝聚思想共识，推动理论创新。姜辉要求专家学者，一要深入研究我们党百年奋斗的重大成就和历史经验，汲取历史智慧，增强历史自信，充满前进力量；二要深入研究习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想实现马克思主义中国化新的历史飞跃的重要意义，在马克思主义发展史上的重要地位，为发展21世纪马克思主义作出的原创性贡献；三要深入研究中国共产党创造中国式现代化道路、创造人类文明新形态的重大意义，在人类社会发展史、人类文明进步史上的巨大贡献。

In his address, Pan Yuteng pointed out that this symposium fully reflects the political consciousness of the national Marxist theoretical community in promoting the thorough study and implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, the academic consciousness in assisting the construction of a strong socialist modernized country, and the action consciousness in fulfilling the mission of casting the soul and educating people, and providing counsel for governance. In his address, Liu Weize pointed out that Fujian is an important birthplace and practice ground for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and he hoped that experts and scholars would help Fujian to study, elucidate, and propagate Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, this Marxism for contemporary China and Marxism for the twenty-first century, well.

After the opening ceremony, four scholars delivered keynote reports: Researcher Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and President of the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Sun Bangzhu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism at Peking University; Professor Xiao Guiqing, Executive Vice President of the Research Institute for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era at Tsinghua University; and Professor Tao Wenzhao, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Renmin University of China. Fourteen scholars, including Professor Liu Tongfang, Professor Luo Yongkuan, Professor Wang Shuqin, Professor Liu Fengyi, Professor Yan Lianfu, Professor Li Ran, Professor Liu Lyuhong, Professor Zhang Shihai, Professor Hong Xiaonan, Professor Pang Lisheng, Professor Hu Daping, Professor Cai Wencheng, Professor Lin Jinping, and Professor Wu Hongzheng, who are principal leaders of key national schools of Marxism, delivered thematic speeches.

The keynote report session was presided over by Professor Li Jianping, former President of Fujian Normal University and Director of the National Research Center for Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (Fujian Normal University). Experts conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as what is the driving force for theoretical innovation of the Communist Party of China, the dialectical relationship between the new development pattern and Chinese-path modernization, what correct path to take to achieve the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, and how to write a perfect answer to the major issues of the New Era [4]4 The “New Era” (新时代) is the official designation for the period beginning with the 19th National Congress of the CPC in 2017, associated with Xi Jinping’s leadership.. Li Jianping provided commentary on the experts’ reports. The thematic speech sessions were respectively presided over and commented on by Professor Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Vice President of the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Professor Zheng Chuanfang, Director of the Fujian Provincial Steering Committee for Ideological and Political Theory Courses; and Professor Zhang Youkui, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Xiamen University. With the research and elucidation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC as the main line, experts expressed their views on important issues such as the new leap in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, the centennial history of the Communist Party of China, Party building, and the path of Chinese-path modernization. The closing ceremony was presided over by Zhang Aimin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism at Fujian Normal University. Researcher Gong Yun, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Professor Fu Huifang, Executive Dean of the School of Marxism at Fujian Normal University, delivered closing remarks on behalf of the host units.

主旨报告环节由福建师范大学原校长、全国中国特色社会主义政治经济学研究中心（福建师范大学）主任李建平教授主持，专家们围绕什么是中国共产党理论创新的动力源、新发展格局与中国式现代化的辩证关系、实现中华民族伟大复兴走什么样的正确道路、如何书写新时代重大课题的完美答卷等进行深入研讨。李建平对专家们的报告进行了点评。主题发言环节分别由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长、中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院副院长林建华教授、福建省思想政治理论课教学指导委员会主任郑传芳教授、厦门大学马克思主义学院常务副院长张有奎教授主持并点评。专家们以研究和阐释党的十九届六中全会精神为主线，针对马克思主义中国化新的飞跃、中国共产党百年党史、党的建设、中国式现代化道路等重要问题发表了自己的观点。闭幕式由福建师范大学马克思主义学院党委书记张爱民主持，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院副院长龚云研究员、福建师范大学马克思主义学院执行院长傅慧芳教授分别代表主办单位致闭幕词。

The attending experts unanimously agreed that, at a time when the entire Party and the entire nation are deeply studying and implementing the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, convening the National Forum of Marxist Deans Special Symposium on “The Centennial Glory of the Communist Party of China and Chinese Modernization” is timely and of profound significance. The exchanges and discussions at this symposium were deep and enthusiastic, deepening the understanding and grasp of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee, deepening the research and elucidation of the major significance of the Communist Party of China in creating the path of Chinese-path modernization and creating a new form of human civilization, and deepening the connections and exchanges among national schools of Marxism. This has a positive promoting effect on the flourishing development of contemporary Marxist theoretical research and the construction of a community of national schools of Marxism.

与会专家一致认为，在全党全国人民深入学习贯彻党的十九届六中全会精神之际，召开“中国共产党百年辉煌与中国现代化”全国马克思主义院长论坛专题研讨会，正逢其时、意义深远。此次论坛的交流研讨深入热烈，深化了对十九届六中全会精神的理解把握，深化了中国共产党创造中国式现代化道路、创造人类文明新形态的重大意义的研究阐释，深化了全国马克思主义学院的联系交流，对于当代马克思主义理论研究事业的繁荣发展和全国马克思主义学院共同体建设，具有积极的推动作用。

It is reported that this symposium brought together more than 200 experts and scholars from nearly 100 universities and research institutes nationwide, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, and Nankai University, as well as representatives from important academic journals such as *Marxist Studies*, *Studies on World Socialism*, *Southeast Academic Research*, *Fujian Tribune*, and *Journal of Fujian Normal University*.

据悉，本次研讨会有来自北京大学、清华大学、中国社会科学院、中国人民大学、武汉大学、南开大学等全国近100所高校及科研院所的200多位专家学者，《马克思主义研究》《世界社会主义研究》《东南学术》《福建论坛》《福建师范大学学报》等重要学术期刊代表参加。
