The Mao Zedong Thought Research Office Carries Out a “Rereading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong” Reading Group Activity to Deepen Academic Research

In order to implement the requirements of the Party Committee of the Academy of Marxism regarding “reading original works, studying original texts, and grasping fundamental principles” and to improve the academic activities of scientific research personnel on their return-to-institute days, starting from September 2021, the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office has continuously carried out a “Rereading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong” reading group activity. It strives to promote research on Mao Zedong Thought by deepening the study of Comrade Mao Zedong’s classic works, to consolidate a solid foundation for academic research, and to further deepen academic research. As of January 2022, the reading group has been held five times, with all comrades from the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office attending each time, and Liu Zhiming, Director of the Research Department on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context, and Deputy Director He Xinyuan participating together on multiple occasions.

为贯彻马克思主义研究院党委关于“读原著、学原文、悟原理”和搞好科研人员返所日学术活动的要求，从2021年9月开始，毛泽东思想研究室连续开展“重读毛选”读书会活动，力求通过深化学习毛泽东同志的经典著作推动对毛泽东思想的研究，夯实学术研究的坚实基础，进一步深化学术研究。截至2022年1月，读书会已开展5次，毛泽东思想研究室的同志每次都全部参加，马克思主义中国化研究部主任刘志明、副主任贺新元多次共同参加。

Each session of the "Rereading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong" reading group activity involves a close reading of one of Comrade Mao Zedong's works. A comrade from the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office leads the reading and explanation, while other comrades engage in discussion, exchanging ideas and conducting research and debate. The focus is on grasping the Marxist stance, viewpoint, and method embedded in Comrade Mao Zedong's works, and understanding them within the broader history of the development of Marxism, the process of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, the intellectual history of the Communist Party of China, and the history of the development of Mao Zedong Thought, so as to deeply grasp their theoretical contributions, significant meaning, and contemporary value.

“重读毛选”读书会活动每次精读一篇毛泽东同志著作，由毛泽东思想研究室的一名同志领读讲解，其他同志一起讨论，进行思想碰撞、交流研讨，着重把握毛泽东同志著作中蕴含的马克思主义立场、观点、方法，并将其放在马克思主义发展史、马克思主义中国化历程、中国共产党思想史、毛泽东思想发展史的大历史中去理解，深刻把握其理论贡献、重要意义和当代价值。

Since the launch of the "Rereading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong" reading group activity, Zhu Jidong, Yang Junfeng, Yu Xiaolei, Wang Yonghao, and Fang Tao have successively led the reading of five articles: "Analysis of the Classes in Chinese Society," "Report on an Investigation of the Peasant Movement in Hunan," "Why Can China's Red Political Power Exist?," "The Struggle in the Jinggang Mountains," and "The Resolution of the Ninth Congress of the Fourth Red Army of the Communist Party of China." [1]1 These five works are seminal texts by Mao Zedong from the late 1920s, covering class analysis, peasant revolution, the theoretical basis for the survival of Communist-led base areas, military struggle, and Party-building in the Red Army. At each reading group session, the comrade leading the reading and explanation prepared earnestly, while other comrades on site engaged in heated discussion and research exchange. This not only brought about academic improvement but also further strengthened ideals and convictions, consolidated the foundation of academic theoretical skills, honed and enhanced the academic abilities of young research personnel, and led to notable progress in the various work of the office. Some comrades' reading reports, after revision, were also transformed into high-quality research results. A total of seven papers were published in core journals such as *People's Tribune*, *Mao Zedong Research*, *Ningxia Social Sciences*, and *Journal of China Executive Leadership Academy Jinggangshan*, achieving the goal of deepening academic research through the reading group activity to a good degree.

“重读毛选”读书会活动开展以来，先后由朱继东、杨俊峰、于晓雷、王永浩、方涛领读了《中国社会各阶级的分析》《湖南农民运动考察报告》《中国的红色政权为什么能够存在？》《井冈山的斗争》《中国共产党红军第四军第九次代表大会决议案》等五篇文章。每次读书会，领读讲解的同志都认真准备，现场其他同志热烈讨论，进行研讨交流，不仅在学术上得到提升，而且进一步坚定了理想信念，夯实了学术理论功底，锻炼、提升了青年科研人员的学术能力，也使研究室各项工作取得明显进步。部分同志的读书报告，经过修改还转化为高质量科研成果，共有7篇论文发表在《人民论坛》《毛泽东研究》《宁夏社会科学》《中国井冈山干部学院学报》等核心刊物上，较好达到了通过读书会活动深化学术研究的目标。

In 2022, the "Rereading the Selected Works of Mao Zedong" reading group activity will continue and will expand from the Mao Zedong Thought Research Office to the Research Department on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context, and even to a broader scope, attracting comrades from other research offices who are interested to participate together. Efforts will be made to build it into a learning brand with a broader scope and greater influence, making more and greater contributions to continuously consolidating the academic theoretical foundation of the discipline of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the discipline of Marxist theory.

2022年，“重读毛选”读书会活动将继续进行，并从毛泽东思想研究室扩大到马克思主义中国化研究部甚至更大范围，吸引其他研究室感兴趣的同志一起参加，努力打造成为一个更大范围、更具影响力的学习品牌，为不断夯实马克思主义中国化学科建设、马克思主义理论学科建设的学术理论基础做出更多更大的贡献。
