Welcoming the 20th National Congress of the CPC, Consolidating the Party’s Theoretical Foundation: Academic Forum on “The Successful Experience of the CPC’s Century-Long Struggle and the Adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese Context” Successfully Held

On 23 July 2022, the Academic Forum on “The Successful Experience of the CPC’s Century-Long Struggle and the Adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese Context,” organized by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was successfully held at Qingdao University of Technology. This academic forum was jointly hosted by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Qingdao University of Technology, co-organized by the Department of Research on the Adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese Context of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the School of Marxism of Qingdao University of Technology, and co-sponsored by the editorial offices of *Studies on Marxism*, *Studies on World Socialism*, *Frontline*, and *Shandong Social Sciences*. The forum, with the theme “The Successful Experience of the CPC’s Century-Long Struggle and the Adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese Context,” was conducted in a combination of online and offline formats.

2022年7月23日，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院“中国共产党百年奋斗的成功经验与马克思主义中国化”学术论坛在青岛理工大学成功举办。本次学术论坛由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院和青岛理工大学联合主办，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义中国化研究部、中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院、青岛理工大学马克思主义学院联合承办，《马克思主义研究》编辑部、《世界社会主义研究》编辑部、《前线》编辑部、《山东社会科学》编辑部联合协办。论坛以“中国共产党百年奋斗的成功经验与马克思主义中国化”为主题，以“线上+线下”相结合的方式进行。

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Gong Yun, Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Wang Yajun, Secretary of the Party Committee of Qingdao University of Technology, delivered speeches on behalf of the host organizations. Wang Wei, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Director of the Propaganda Department of Qingdao University of Technology, presided over the opening ceremony.

In his speech, Deputy Director Gong Yun pointed out that the “Resolution on the Major Achievements and Historical Experience of the Party’s Century-Long Struggle,” adopted at the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC [1]1 The Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC, held in November 2021, adopted the third major historical resolution of the Party, summarizing its achievements and experience over the past century., comprehensively summarized the four great leaps forward achieved since the founding of the CPC, systematically outlined the ten historical experiences of the Party’s century-long struggle, and highlighted the historic achievements and historic changes attained in the New Era. This is a comprehensive, systematic, and profound summary of the major achievements and historical experience of the Party’s century-long struggle, and a programmatic document shining with the truth of Marxism. Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is the Marxism of contemporary China and of the twenty-first century, the essence of the times of Chinese culture and the Chinese spirit, and has achieved a new leap in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context. This presents numerous research topics for workers in philosophy and social sciences. We must strengthen holistic, systematic, and scholarly research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, dialectically grasp the relationship between holistic research and thematic research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and deeply study the original contributions of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, actively contributing to the study, research, and interpretation of this scientific system of thought.

龚云副院长在致辞中指出，党的十九届六中全会通过的《中共中央关于党的百年奋斗重大成就和历史经验的决议》，全面总结了中国共产党成立以来实现的四次伟大飞跃，系统概括了中国共产党百年奋斗的十大历史经验，重点突出了新时代所取得的历史性成就、发生的历史性变革。这是对党的百年奋斗重大成就和历史经验进行全面系统深刻总结，是一篇闪耀着马克思主义真理光芒的纲领性文献。习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想是当代中国马克思主义、二十一世纪马克思主义，是中华文化和中国精神的时代精华，实现了马克思主义中国化新的飞跃。这为广大哲学社会科学工作者提出了诸多研究课题。我们要加强习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的整体性、系统性、学理性研究，要辩证把握习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的整体研究与专题研究之间的关系，要深入研究习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的原创性贡献，为学习、研究、阐释这一科学思想体系积极作出贡献。

Secretary Wang Yajun pointed out that, whether in the past, present, or future, the key factor enabling our Party to lead the people to victory is the continuous advancement of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context. Marxist scholars in the New Era should focus on the “questions of the times,” keep in mind the “great affairs of the state” [2]2 “Great affairs of the state” (国之大者) is a phrase used by Xi Jinping to refer to the, and strive to explore from an academic perspective the triple logic—theoretical, historical, and practical—of why the CPC has been able to succeed in its century-long struggle and how the Party can continue to succeed in the future. They should deeply comprehend the significance of the Two Establishments [3], and produce genuine skills and achieve good results in researching and resolving major issues concerning the overall, fundamental, and critical aspects of the Party and the state.

王亚军书记指出，不论过去、现在和将来，我们党领导人民取得胜利的关键因素就是不断推进马克思主义中国化。新时代马克思主义学者应该关注“时代之问”、心系“国之大者”，着力从学术层面探究中国共产党在百年奋斗中为什么能够成功、弄明白未来党怎样才能继续成功的理论、历史和现实的三重逻辑，深刻领悟“两个确立”的重要意义，在研究解决事关党和国家全局性、根本性、关键性的重大问题上拿出真本事、取得好成果。

In the fourth session of keynote speeches, Shen Yang, Director of the Research Office on the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, spoke on “Three Frontier Issues in the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics”; Professor Tian Xuming, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism of Guangxi Normal University, spoke on “Resilience: A Distinctive Quality of the Socialist System with Chinese Characteristics”; Assistant Researcher Yang Binbin of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences spoke on “Comprehensive and Strict Governance of the Party System: Concepts, Logic, and Mechanisms”; and Professor Wang Dezhao of the School of Marxism of Tongren University spoke on “The Historical Connotation of the CPC’s Original Aspiration and Founding Mission and Its Implications for the New Era.”

Professor Chen Guoqing, Dean of the School of Marxism of Qingdao University of Technology, delivered the concluding summary of the forum. This forum attracted high attention from experts, scholars, and academic colleagues in the fields of research on adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and research on the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics nationwide. The forum received over 600 papers, of which more than 160 passed review by expert judges. Nearly 80 experts and scholars from universities and research institutes including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, Wuhan University, Sun Yat-sen University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Northeastern University, Xiangtan University, Soochow University, Guangxi Normal University, Tongren University, Sichuan Technology and Business University, and Qingdao University of Technology participated in the forum through online and offline methods.

The successful holding of this academic forum helps to systematically study and profoundly comprehend the glorious course of the CPC’s century-long struggle, deepens the understanding and grasp of the Two Establishments and the Two Integrations [4], strengthens systematic research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, provides a valuable academic exchange platform for national researchers on adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and researchers on the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and gathers more wisdom and strength for comprehensively building a modern socialist country.
