On August 4, the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences held a symposium to study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the special seminar for principal leading cadres at the provincial and ministerial level, themed “Study the Spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Important Speech and Welcome the 20th National Congress of the CPC.” Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

Huang Qunhui stated that General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech profoundly elucidates the essential characteristics and profound connotations of the Chinese-path modernization path. The Chinese-path modernization path not only has the historical and practical logic of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, but also has its profound theoretical logic and important theoretical value. Facing the complex and diverse theories of modernization, the Chinese-path modernization path, guided by Marxist theory, has achieved a combination of inclusiveness and innovative transcendence of modernization theory, and a unity of regularity and diversity. 罗文东认为，在世界社会主义五百多年起伏跌宕的历史长河中，新时代的十年如同弹指一挥间，但党领导人民创造的历史伟业，推动的社会变革，却是史无前例、世所罕见。如果说马克思主义的诞生，使社会主义实现了从空想到科学的变革，列宁主义和毛泽东思想的创立，使社会主义实现了由理论到制度的飞跃，那么中国特色社会主义理论体系，特别是习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想，会指引社会主义由初级到高级的过渡。

Jin Minqing pointed out that the Chinese-path modernization path has very important significance in the history of the development of human civilization. It has broken the myth of the uniqueness of the Western modernization path, expanded the ways for developing countries to achieve modernization, and promoted the formation and development of a new form of human civilization. Chen Zhigang believes that Chinese-path modernization is a socialist modernization independently pioneered by the Communist Party of China, guided by the continuous development of Marxism, based on China’s unique realities, rooted in the five-thousand-year civilization of China, absorbing the outstanding achievements of human civilization, and in the great practice of reform and opening up. Chinese-path modernization has both national character and global character; it has both particularity and universality; it neither takes the old closed and rigid path nor the evil path of changing the flag [3]3 “Changing the flag” is a Chinese political idiom meaning abandoning socialism for capitalism, often paired with “closed and rigid path” to reject both leftist dogmatism and rightist revisionism.; it both insists on placing the development of the country and the nation on the basis of our own strength and firmly grasping the destiny of China’s development and progress in our own hands, and actively conforms to the trend of economic globalization and adheres to opening up to the outside world.

陈志刚认为，中国式现代化，是中国共产党坚持以不断发展马克思主义为指导，立足中国独特实际，植根中华五千年文明，吸收人类文明优秀成果，在改革开放的伟大实践中，独立自主开创的社会主义现代化。中国式现代化，既有民族性，也有世界性；既有特殊性，也有普遍性；既不走封闭僵化的老路，也不走改旗易帜的邪路；既坚持把国家和民族发展放在自己力量的基点上、把中国发展进步的命运牢牢掌握在自己手中，又积极顺应经济全球化的趋势，坚持对外开放。
