Symposium on Large-Scale Television Documentary Series *Leading the Way* Held in Beijing

Guangming Daily, Beijing, October 25 (Reporter Zhang Yingtian) A symposium on the large-scale television documentary series *Leading the Way* was held in Beijing on the 25th. Experts and scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, *Qiushi* Journal, the National Defense University, the Ministry of Education’s Research and Development Center, and other units conducted in-depth exchanges on the series’ ideological content, theoretical grounding, academic value, artistic quality, and innovation.

光明日报北京10月25日电（记者张颖天）大型电视专题片《领航》座谈会25日在北京召开。来自中国社会科学院、求是杂志社、国防大学、教育部科研发展中心等单位的专家学者们围绕该片的思想性、理论性、学术性、艺术性和创新性进行了深入交流。

*Leading the Way* focuses on the landmark great transformations of the New Era’s decade [1]1 The “New Era” refers to the period beginning with the 19th National Congress of the CPC in 2017, when Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was enshrined in the Party Constitution., using 16 episodes to present the extraordinary and magnificent journey of the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core uniting and leading the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups across the country, and to manifest the powerful truth-force of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Since its broadcast on CCTV’s comprehensive channel on October 8, the series has drawn high attention from all sectors of society and received widespread acclaim.

《领航》聚焦具有里程碑意义的新时代十年伟大变革，用16集的篇幅呈现了以习近平同志为核心的党中央团结带领全党全国各族人民走过的非凡壮阔历程，彰显了习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的强大真理力量。该片自10月8日在央视综合频道播出以来，引发社会各界高度关注，受到广泛好评。

The attending experts and scholars unanimously agreed that the series has distinct characteristics—strong in ideological content, strong in academic value, and strong in narrative appeal—fully demonstrating General Secretary Xi Jinping’s extraordinary strategy in governance and his people-centered fundamental stance. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC [2]2 The 18th National Congress of the CPC was held in 2012, marking the beginning of Xi Jinping’s tenure as General Secretary of the Party Central Committee., the reason why the cause of the Party and the state has achieved historic accomplishments and undergone historic changes lies fundamentally in having General Secretary Xi Jinping as the core of the Party Central Committee and the core of the entire Party at the helm, and in having the scientific guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The series, with its profound theoretical explanatory power and theoretical penetrating power, uses the force of thought, the force of culture, and the force of literature and art to bring the Party’s innovative theories into the homes of ordinary people. The experts and scholars believe that *Leading the Way* enables viewers to deeply feel that China’s development is a development “with feeling,” a development “with roots,” and a development “with a future.” The spiritual demeanor of Chinese Communists in the New Era, who tirelessly strive to realize the people’s aspiration for a better life, is highly impactful, and the many detailed narrative expressions show the people’s sense of gain, happiness, and security in the development of the New Era.

At the symposium, some experts gave high praise to *Leading the Way* from the perspectives of film aesthetics and iconography. They argued that the series’ tone is grand and majestic, truly achieving the visualization of ideological discourse and the typification of character images and object images, making it a masterful work that illuminates historical culture and the evolution of the times.

在座谈会上，有专家从电影美学和图像学的角度对《领航》给予了高度评价。认为该片基调恢弘大气，真正做到了思想话语的图像化、人物形象和事物形象的典型化，堪称昭示历史文化和时代演进的精品力作。

The large-scale television documentary series *Leading the Way* was jointly produced by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee together with the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission, the National Radio and Television Administration, China Media Group, the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission, and other units.
