2022 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education Held at Jiangxi Normal University

At a time when the whole country is deeply studying and implementing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, in order to better use Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to consolidate minds and souls and to promote the innovative development of ideological and political education in the New Era, the 2022 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education was held at Jiangxi Normal University on December 11. This conference was co-hosted by the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Jiangxi Normal University, organized by the Research Department on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context and the Needs of the Times of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Jiangxi Normal University, and co-organized by the editorial departments of *Studies on Marxism*, *Journal of Ideological and Theoretical Education*, and *Journal of Jiangxi Normal University* (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition), the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the research group of the major project of the National Social Science Fund "Research on the Innovative Contribution of the Chinese-Path Modernization Path to the Development of Human Civilization". Leaders, experts, and scholars from universities and research institutes including Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang University, Nankai University, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Jinan University, the Hunan Academy of Social Sciences, the Qinghai Academy of Social Sciences, and the Henan Academy of Social Sciences attended the conference. The conference adopted a combination of online and offline formats.

在全国上下深入学习贯彻习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想和党的二十大精神之际，为更好用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想凝心铸魂，推进新时代思想政治教育创新发展，12月11日，2022年全国思想政治教育学术研讨会在江西师范大学召开。此次会议由中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、江西师范大学主办，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义中国化研究部、江西师范大学马克思主义学院承办，《马克思主义研究》编辑部、《思想理论教育导刊》编辑部、《江西师范大学学报》（哲学社会科学版）编辑部、中国社会科学院大学马克思主义学院、国家社科基金重大项目“中国式现代化道路对人类文明发展的创新贡献研究”课题组共同协办。来自清华大学、北京师范大学、浙江大学、南开大学、复旦大学、武汉大学、暨南大学、湖南社科院、青海社科院、河南社科院等高校、科研院所的领导、专家学者参加会议。会议采取线上、线下相结合的方式召开。

He pointed out that Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is the fundamental guideline for doing a good job in ideological and political work, and that we must unswervingly use this thought to arm minds, guide practice, and cultivate souls and educate people. First, guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, promote the theoretical innovation and practical exploration of ideological and political education on the new journey of the New Era. Second, firmly grasp the important principle of ideological and political education serving Chinese-path modernization, and promote the innovative development of ideological and political education. Third, based on cultivating good young people of the New Era who have ideals, dare to take responsibility, can endure hardship, and are willing to strive, implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education in ideological and political theory courses.

On behalf of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Jiangxi Provincial Education Work Committee and the Provincial Education Department, Wang Lixia extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the experts in attendance. He stated that Jiangxi has always attached great importance to ideological and political education in schools, consistently taking General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important requirements as the fundamental guiding principle, and consistently regarding the use of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to forge souls and educate people as its primary mission. He noted that the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Jiangxi Provincial Education Work Committee and the Provincial Education Department adhere to the unity of explicit education and implicit education, deeply promote the integration and interconnection of classrooms, campuses, society, and the internet, and strive to advance the alignment of ideological and political courses with curriculum-based ideological and political education, firmly grasping ideological and political education with clear banners. He put forward three requirements: first, to make efforts in persistently using Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to consolidate minds and cultivate souls; second, to seek breakthroughs in deeply advancing innovation in methods and approaches; third, to achieve results in promoting the construction of the “grand ideological and political course” system.

On behalf of Jiangxi Normal University, Huang Jiawen extended a warm welcome and sincere thanks to all the experts in attendance. He pointed out that ideological and political work in higher education institutions concerns the fundamental question of what kind of people universities cultivate, how they cultivate them, and for whom they cultivate them. Regarding the symposium’s theme of ideological and political education from the perspective of the new leap in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, he put forward three suggestions: first, to deeply study and elucidate the important thesis that “Marxism adapted to the Chinese context and the needs of the times works”; second, to deeply study and elucidate the laws of the innovative development of ideological and political education on the new journey of the New Era; third, to deeply study and elucidate the major issue of cultivating good youth on the new journey of the New Era. He expressed the hope that all experts and scholars would continue to care for and support the construction of the Marxist discipline and ideological and political education work at Jiangxi Normal University, working together to make unremitting efforts to promote the integrity and innovation of ideological and political education work in the New Era.

The attending experts spoke actively around the conference theme and engaged in heated discussions on cutting-edge academic issues.

Liu Ailing, Director of the Ideological and Political Education Research Office at the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered the conference summary. She believed that the attending experts had a broad vision and profound theoretical exploration, encompassing both a summary of experiences in ideological and political education from the grand narrative of a century and an exploration of innovation in ideological and political education standing at the New Era and new journey; both forward-looking reflections on studying and implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC and an inquiry into basic concepts and methods; both comparisons from an international perspective and excavation based on Chinese traditional culture, making it a successful academic feast.

You Lin, Executive Dean of the School of Marxism at Jiangxi Normal University, stated in her concluding remarks that this symposium had a broad vision and great significance; profound thought and outstanding contributions; novel viewpoints and unique value; and a strict and solid meeting style and excellent work style. She warmly invited the attending experts and scholars to visit the school for guidance and to share their valuable experience.
