United in Heart, United in Endeavor

The year 2022 was an extraordinary one. Beijing successfully hosted the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics; the Communist Party of China triumphantly convened the 20th National Congress. In an atmosphere of unity and endeavor, the Women’s Work Committee of the Academy of Marxism, under the leadership and with the strong support of the Party Committee and the Trade Union of the Academy, overcame the many adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on its work, and, in light of the year’s major national events, actively and proactively carried out both routine and distinctive activities, achieving fairly good results.

1. Held a “Welcoming the Beijing Winter Olympics” activity themed “United in Heart for the Winter Olympics, Together for a Shared Future”

To support the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics, to promote understanding of Winter Olympics culture among the Academy’s staff, to inspire patriotic sentiment, to enable experience of ice and snow sports, and to embed the Olympic spirit of “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together” deep in people’s hearts, the Academy’s Trade Union and Women’s Work Committee, with the strong support and guidance of the Academy’s Party Committee, jointly held a “Welcoming the Beijing Winter Olympics” activity themed “United in Heart for the Winter Olympics, Together for a Shared Future.” The Trade Union and Women’s Work Committee carefully set up two themes – “United in Heart, Painting the Winter Olympics Sentiment” and “Ice and Snow Sports Showcase Excellence” – and called for submissions from all staff and their family members of the Academy of Marxism. The activity was welcomed by the Academy’s staff and their families; everyone actively participated and enthusiastically submitted contributions, with a total of 38 pieces received, including 30 images and 8 videos. Staff and their families expressed that this activity not only showcased the sunny, open, positive, upward-striving, and excellence-seeking spirit of the Academy’s staff and families, but also fostered a strong cultural atmosphere within the Academy of caring about and supporting the Beijing Winter Olympics and actively participating in ice and snow sports. Based on the submitted works, the Trade Union and Women’s Work Committee produced display boards and burned CDs, and prepared exquisite Winter Olympics souvenirs for all participants.

2. Held an International Women’s Day activity themed “Recalling the Arduous Years, Cherishing the Good Life”

To further implement General Secretary Xi Jinping’s requirements for unity and endeavor, to enrich the cultural life of the Academy’s staff, to strengthen the cohesion of the entire Academy’s staff, and in conjunction with the opportunity to welcome the successful convening of the 20th National Congress of the CPC through concrete actions, with the approval of the Academy’s Party Committee, the Trade Union and Women’s Work Committee organized the Academy’s staff on March 30 to visit the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution and Yuyuantan Park for a themed activity titled “Recalling the Arduous Years, Cherishing the Good Life.” Over 90 staff members from across the Academy participated, and Vice Presidents Gong Yun and Lin Jianhua, as well as Discipline Inspection Commission Secretary and Vice President Yu Junxiao, attended the event. Through the visit, everyone felt how hard-won today’s happy life is; while viewing the cherry blossoms in the park, they more deeply appreciated that the good life must be cherished. After the activity, the Women’s Work Committee collected outstanding photographs, produced display boards for a photo exhibition, and prepared fine gifts for everyone.

3. Organized the Third “Women’s Professional Image Enhancement Salon” activity of the Academy of Marxism, themed “Beauty, Rooted in Health”

To further care for the physical and mental health of the Academy’s female staff, to enhance their self-confidence, and to display their healthy and upward-looking spirit, the Academy’s Women’s Work Committee held the Third “Women’s Professional Image Enhancement Salon” activity on September 22 in Conference Room 1237 of the Research Building. Senior designer and posture management consultant Zhi Xiao’ai from Vini Fashion Group was specially invited to give a lecture on body management and healthy posture, and to provide on-site guidance and instruction on daily exercise methods suitable for researchers, aiming to cultivate a healthy and beautiful professional female image among the Academy’s female staff. Members of the Women’s Work Committee and several dozen female staff attended the salon. The teachers who participated expressed that this salon activity was novel in form and meaningful; it not only gave them knowledge about body management and healthy posture, which they usually paid little attention to, and helped them recognize the close relationships between posture and health, and between exercise and emotion, but also enabled them to master some simple, easy-to-implement exercise methods suitable for themselves. They felt they had gained a great deal.

In addition to the distinctive themed activities mentioned above, the Academy’s Women’s Work Committee also paid constant attention to the needs of female staff in light of their characteristics, carried out meticulous work, earnestly cared about their work and life needs, and proactively provided them with considerate services. For example: it persisted in sending birthday greetings on the 15th of each month in the Academy-wide female staff WeChat group to teachers whose birthdays fell in that month; offered special congratulations to female staff who were newly married or had given birth; promptly expressed condolences when staff members or their family members fell ill; actively coordinated to resolve difficulties such as milk storage for nursing mothers returning to the Academy; actively organized female staff to participate in the Academy of Social Sciences’ gynecological check-ups; and, regarding the various problems encountered by children of different ages in their studies, especially during the transition to higher education, set up groups to exchange parenting experiences. This ensured that everyone constantly felt the care and warmth of the organization.

Looking back on 2022, all the activities carried out by the Women’s Work Committee of the Academy of Marxism were consistently permeated by the theme of “unity,” strengthening the cohesion of the Academy’s staff, fostering a positive and upward atmosphere, and fully manifesting the spirit of the Academy’s staff being united in heart and united in endeavor. The steady, solid, and distinctive work of the Women’s Work Committee received high recognition from the Women’s Work Committee of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the leadership of the Academy of Marxism, and the female staff. Many female staff members remarked: “It really feels good to have an organization.” This is the best commendation for the hard work and concerted efforts of the Women’s Work Committee.
