Opening Up a New Frontier in Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context and the Needs of the Times

On May 20, the 13th Academic Forum on Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context was convened in Wuxi, jointly hosted by the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Propaganda Department of the Wuxi Municipal Committee of the CPC, and Jiangnan University. More than one hundred experts and scholars from across the country attended the conference to jointly discuss major theoretical and practical issues in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times.

Lin Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Zhang Yinglu, Vice President of Jiangnan University; and Gong Yonggang, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee of the CPC, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively. The Jiangnan University Theoretical Research Base of the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era was unveiled. Lin Jianhua stated that 2023 is the first year for implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, a crucial year linking the past and future for implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan, an important year for laying the foundation for comprehensively building a modern socialist country, and also a year for deeply carrying out the thematic education on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, vigorously promoting the practice of investigation and research, and thoroughly studying Volumes I and II of *Selected Works of Xi Jinping*. This conference aims to deeply study and comprehensively implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, deepen theoretical research and propaganda interpretation of the glorious course of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, strengthen academic exchanges among researchers nationwide on adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times and on the theory of socialism with Chinese characteristics, consolidate the theoretical research team for adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times, and promote the disciplinary development of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context. Based on the great practice of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era, to comprehensively understand, systematically study, and scientifically interpret Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, it is necessary to further raise awareness of the importance of the Party's innovative theory, further deeply comprehend the essence of the scientific system of the Party's innovative theory, and further promote the research, interpretation, and dissemination of the Party's innovative theory.

林建华表示，2023年是贯彻党的二十大精神开局之年，是实施“十四五”规划承前启后的关键一年，是为全面建设社会主义现代化国家奠定基础的重要一年，也是深入开展习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想主题教育、大兴调研之风、深入学习《习近平著作选读》第一卷第二卷之年。此次会议旨在深入学习、全面贯彻党的二十大精神，深化马克思主义中国化时代化光辉历程的理论研究和宣传阐释，加强全国马克思主义中国化时代化研究者、中国特色社会主义理论研究者的学术交流，凝聚马克思主义中国化时代化理论研究队伍，推动马克思主义中国化学科建设。立足新时代中国特色社会主义伟大实践，全面领会、系统研究、科学阐释习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想，就要进一步提高对党的创新理论重要性的认识，进一步深刻领悟党的创新理论的科学体系的精髓，进一步推动党的创新理论的研究、阐释和传播。

Zhang Yinglu introduced the main situation of Jiangnan University, especially the achievements in the construction of the School of Marxism and disciplinary development, and stated that the report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, centering on the proposition of opening up a new frontier in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times—a proposition with both profound theoretical connotations and major political significance—systematically elaborated on the issue of theoretical innovation based on the great transformations of the New Era over the past decade, and put forward a series of new concepts, new ideas, and new strategies. Continuously deepening research on the basic theories and frontier issues of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times is an inevitable requirement for further enhancing the academic and scholarly nature of the discipline of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context, and for continuously constructing an independent knowledge system with Chinese characteristics. Research in this field must be deepened, the depth and breadth of research improved, academic horizons further broadened, research capabilities enhanced, and new academic growth points formed.

张影陆介绍了江南大学的主要情况特别是马克思主义学院建设和学科发展取得的成就并表示，党的二十大报告围绕开辟马克思主义中国化时代化新境界这一兼具深刻理论内涵和重大政治意义的命题，系统阐述了新时代10年伟大变革基础上的理论创新问题，提出了一系列新理念新思想新战略。不断深化马克思主义中国化时代化基础理论和前沿问题的研究，是进一步增强马克思主义中国化研究学科的学术性和学理性，不断构建中国特色自主知识体系的必然要求。要在这一领域深化研究，提高研究的深度、广度，进一步开拓学术视野、提升研究能力，形成新的学术增长点。

Gong Yonggang proposed that Marxism is the fundamental guiding ideology for building the Party and the country, and for rejuvenating the Party and the country. Why the CPC can succeed and why socialism with Chinese characteristics works is, in the final analysis, because Marxism works, and because Marxism adapted to the Chinese context and the needs of the times works. The Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era is an important front for the Party's ideological construction. The Jiangnan University Theoretical Research Base of the Jiangsu Provincial Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era must take the continuous deepening and expansion of research on the Party's innovative theory as its primary task, strive to produce more high-level research results, and provide solid academic support for building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation. It must adhere to the correct political direction, strengthen theoretical armament, better guide people to firmly uphold the Two Establishments and resolutely achieve the Two Upholds, make greater achievements in boosting the Party's ideological and theoretical construction, and contribute more to comprehensively advancing the new practice of Chinese-path modernization in Jiangsu.

Participating experts and scholars, through forms such as keynote reports, thematic reports, and sub-forum discussions, conducted in-depth discussions on the major theoretical and practical issues of adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times.

与会专家学者以主旨报告、主题报告、分论坛研讨等形式，围绕马克思主义中国化时代化的重大理论和实践问题进行了深入研讨。
