The Key to Comprehensively Advancing Chinese-Path Modernization Is Upholding Party Leadership

On July 29, 2023, the academic forum “Party Leadership and Chinese-Path Modernization” and the new book launch for the *Series on the Historical Experience of the Party’s Century of Struggle* were held in Jinan. Yu Junxiao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Central Organs, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Academy of Marxism, and Vice President of the Academy of Marxism; Zhao Shanhai, Second-Level Inspector of the Publicity Department of the Jinan Municipal Committee of the CPC; and Tian Junlin, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Jinan Publishing House, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhang Xueli, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Jinan Publishing House.

Chinese-path modernization is socialist modernization led by the Communist Party of China. Party leadership directly determines the fundamental direction, future prospects, and ultimate success or failure of Chinese-path modernization. In his speech, Yu Junxiao stated: Looking back on the more than one hundred years of the Party leading the Chinese people, the Party has shouldered the heavy responsibility of exploring the path of Chinese modernization, uniting and leading the broad masses through unremitting struggle to profoundly change the direction and process of the development of the Chinese nation since modern times, profoundly change the future and destiny of the Chinese people and the Chinese nation, and profoundly change the trends and patterns of world development. The report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC [1]1 The 20th National Congress of the CPC was held in October 2022; its report outlined the guiding principles for the New Era. explicitly sets forth the essential requirements of Chinese-path modernization, the first of which is “upholding the leadership of the Communist Party of China”; it explicitly sets forth the major principles that must be firmly grasped in Chinese-path modernization, the first of which is “upholding and strengthening the Party’s overall leadership.” We must strengthen research on the Party’s century of historical experience, draw wisdom and strength from the Party’s more than one hundred years of struggle history, and inject powerful spiritual impetus into comprehensively advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-path modernization.

中国式现代化是中国共产党领导的社会主义现代化。党的领导直接关系中国式现代化的根本方向、前途命运、最终成败。于俊霄在致辞中表示，回首党带领中国人民走过的一百多年的历程，党肩负起探索中国现代化道路的重任，团结带领广大人民以不懈奋斗深刻改变了近代以后中华民族发展的方向和进程，深刻改变了中国人民和中华民族的前途和命运，深刻改变了世界发展的趋势和格局。党的二十大报告明确提出中国式现代化的本质要求，首要的就是“坚持中国共产党领导”，明确提出中国式现代化必须牢牢把握的重大原则，第一条就是“坚持和加强党的全面领导”。我们要加强对党的百年历史经验的研究，从党一百多年奋斗历史中汲取智慧和力量,为以中国式现代化全面推进中华民族伟大复兴注入强大精神动力。

In his speech, Zhao Shanhai stated: Advancing Chinese-path modernization is a major deployment of the 20th National Congress of the CPC. The report of the 20th National Congress of the CPC elaborates that Chinese-path modernization is the modernization of a huge population, the modernization of common prosperity for all the people, the modernization of the coordination of material civilization and cultural-ethical progress, the modernization of harmony between humanity and nature, and the modernization of taking the path of peaceful development. This forum, with the theme “Party Leadership and Chinese-Path Modernization,” conducts academic exchanges, deeply and systematically researches and elucidates Party leadership and Chinese-path modernization. It is an important measure to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, and it is also an academic gathering to enhance exchange and build consensus. It has great theoretical and practical significance for deeply understanding the scientific thesis that “Chinese-path modernization is socialist modernization led by the Communist Party of China.” It will certainly promote the continuous development and improvement of the theoretical system of Chinese-path modernization and provide solid theoretical support for comprehensively advancing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-path modernization.

During the keynote report session, experts and scholars from the CASS system, the Party school system, and various universities delivered brilliant academic reports closely centered on “Party Leadership and Chinese-Path Modernization.” During the academic forum session, more than ten young doctoral students from domestic universities conducted academic exchanges around the conference theme. At the closing ceremony of the conference, Shen Yang, Director of the Research Office of the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Academy of Marxism, CASS, delivered a concluding summary speech.

主题报告阶段，来自社科院系统、党校系统以及各高校的专家学者，紧紧围绕“党的领导与中国式现代化”做了精彩的学术报告。学术论坛阶段，来自国内高校的10余位青年博士研究生围绕会议主题进行了学术交流。在会议闭幕式上，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院中国特色社会主义理论体系研究室主任沈阳作了会议总结发言。

It is reported that the *Series on the Historical Experience of the Party’s Century of Struggle* is composed of ten separate volumes, respectively addressing Party leadership, supremacy of the people, theoretical innovation, independence and self-reliance, the Chinese path, embracing the world, pioneering and innovation, daring to struggle, the united front, and self-revolution. It presents from multiple perspectives, panoramically, and at a deep level the more than one hundred years of bloody struggle, self-reliance, emancipation of the mind, and self-confidence and self-reliance of the Communist Party of China leading the broad masses, along with the stirring stories, rich and vivid examples, inspiring ideological theories, and invaluable historical experience contained therein.

据悉，“党的百年奋斗历史经验丛书”分别从党的领导、人民至上、理论创新、独立自主、中国道路、胸怀天下、开拓创新、敢于斗争、统一战线、自我革命等十个方面独立成书，多视角、全景化、深层次展现中国共产党带领广大人民一百多年浴血奋战、自力更生、解放思想、自信自强的团结奋斗历程以及其中可歌可泣的感人故事、丰富生动的事例实例、感召有力的思想理论和弥足珍贵的历史经验。
