The 2023 National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education Held at Southwest University

In order to deeply study and comprehend Xi Jinping’s cultural thought, thoroughly implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC, persistently use Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to forge souls and educate people, and promote the high-quality development of ideological and political education, on October 21, 2023, the 13th National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education was held at Southwest University. The conference was jointly sponsored by the Propaganda Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the CPC, the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chongqing Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and Southwest University. It was co-organized by the Research Department of Adapting Marxism to the Chinese Context and the Needs of the Times of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Southwest University, and co-hosted by the editorial department of *Marxism Research*, the editorial department of *Journal of Ideological and Theoretical Education*, and the *Chongqing Daily* Thought Weekly. More than 180 experts and scholars from nearly 100 universities and research institutes across the country, including Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nankai University, Sun Yat-sen University, the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the Chongqing Academy of Social Sciences, gathered to engage in academic exchanges and theoretical discussions around the theme “High-Quality Development of Ideological and Political Education from the Perspective of Chinese-Path Modernization.”

为深入学习领会习近平文化思想，深入贯彻落实党的二十大精神，坚持不懈用习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想铸魂育人，推进思想政治教育高质量发展，2023年10月21日，第十三届全国思想政治教育学术研讨会在西南大学召开。会议由中共重庆市委宣传部、中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、重庆市中国特色社会主义理论体系研究中心、西南大学联合主办，中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院马克思主义中国化研究部、西南大学马克思主义学院共同承办，《马克思主义研究》编辑部、《思想理论教育导刊》编辑部、《重庆日报》思想周刊协办，来自清华大学、中国人民大学、武汉大学、华中科技大学、南开大学、中山大学、中国社会科学院大学、重庆社会科学院等全国近百所高校、科研院所的180余位专家学者共同围绕“中国式现代化视阈下的思想政治教育高质量发展”主题展开学术交流和理论探讨。

Li Xufeng extended warm congratulations on the convening of the conference and sincere welcome to the attending leaders, experts, and scholars. He pointed out that 2023 is the first year of the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist country, and it is also about to usher in the 40th anniversary of the development of the discipline of ideological and political education. The holding of this conference is timely and of profound significance. He expressed the hope that attending experts and scholars would profoundly elucidate the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the CPC

It is necessary to further strengthen the thinking of tracing the source and following the path, and unswervingly use the profound heritage of fine traditional Chinese culture to warm people's hearts and transform people through culture; this is the foundation and confidence for promoting the high-quality development of ideological and political education. It is necessary to further strengthen goal orientation, focusing on the core task of cultivating builders and successors of socialism and new-era figures capable of shouldering the great task of national rejuvenation; this is the distinct purpose of promoting the high-quality development of ideological and political education. It is necessary to further enhance problem awareness and problem orientation, focusing on improving the methods and means of ideological and political education, enhancing its pertinence and effectiveness, expanding its coverage and influence; this is a powerful lever and important pathway for promoting ideological and political education.

Comrade Cao Qingyao pointed out in his speech that three aspects are crucial for researching and elucidating the theme of "High-Quality Development of Ideological and Political Education from the Perspective of Chinese-Path Modernization": first, it is necessary to deeply grasp Xi Jinping's cultural thought and adhere to the fundamental guideline of ideological and political education from the perspective of Chinese-path modernization; second, it is necessary to deeply grasp General Secretary Xi Jinping's important expositions on ideological and political education; third, it is necessary to deeply grasp the era requirements of Chinese-path modernization, offering insightful opinions on promoting reform and innovation in ideological and political theory courses, strengthening the teaching force for ideological and political theory courses, and advancing the deep integration of ideological and political education with information technology, thereby enhancing the contemporary relevance and appeal of ideological and political education.

曹清尧同志在讲话中指出，研究和阐释好“中国式现代化视阈下的思想政治教育高质量发展”这一主题，三个方面至关重要：一是要深刻把握习近平文化思想，坚持好中国式现代化视阈下思想政治教育的根本遵循；二是要深刻把握习近平总书记关于思想政治教育的重要论述；三是要深刻把握中国式现代化的时代要求，在推动思政课改革创新、建强思政课教师队伍、推进思想政治教育同信息技术高度融合等方面提出真知灼见，增强思想政治教育的时代感和吸引力。

During the parallel sub-forum session, experts and scholars from six parallel sub-forums engaged in lively discussions around the themes of "The Party's Innovative Theory and the Cultural Mission of the New Era," "Chinese-Path Modernization and the Promotion of Comprehensive Human Development," "High-Quality Development of the Discipline of Ideological and Political Education in the New Era," "Innovation in Ideological and Political Education and Digitalization," "Research on Ideological and Political Theory Courses from the Perspective of Chinese-Path Modernization," and "Research on Reform and Innovation of Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Higher Education." Liao Xiaoheng, Director of the Propaganda Department and the Online Work Department of the Party Committee of Southwest University, as well as Secretary of the Party Committee and Researcher of the School of Marxism, presided over the closing ceremony of the conference. At the closing ceremony, He Xinyuan, Deputy Director and Researcher of the Department of the Adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese Context at the Institute of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered an academic summary. He provided a comprehensive overview of the conference from four aspects—richness, novelty, depth, and correctness—and summarized three insights: first, for ideological and political education in the New Era to achieve high-quality development, it must adhere to a problem-oriented approach; second, for ideological and political education in the New Era to achieve high-quality development, it must adhere to the integration of theory and practice; third, for ideological and political education in the New Era to achieve high-quality development, teachers of ideological and political courses must possess theoretical clarity and theoretical depth. Wang Feng, Deputy Dean and Professor of the School of Marxism at Southwest University, delivered a conference summary, reviewing and summarizing the event, outlining the discussion content from the perspectives of foundational issues, theoretical issues, and practical issues, and expressing respect and gratitude to the attending experts and scholars. Finally, a flag-handover ceremony was held. Liao Xiaoheng, as the representative of the host institution of this symposium, handed over the flag of the National Symposium on Ideological and Political Education to Yu Yifan, Deputy Dean of the School of Marxism at Nankai University, the next host institution. Professor Yu Yifan, on behalf of the host institution, warmly invited academic colleagues to meet in Tianjin next year and gather at Nankai.

This symposium brought together a wealth of experts and rich content. The reports in the main and breakout sessions were splendid and diverse, with experts and scholars engaging in deep exchanges and highlighting numerous bright spots, demonstrating the symposium’s high standards, broad participation, significant influence, and strong theoretical nature. The successful holding of the symposium is of great significance for publicizing and elucidating the Party’s major theoretical innovations, promoting the practical development of ideological and political education, and advancing the disciplinary construction of ideological and political education.

本次研讨会专家云集、内容丰富，主、分论坛报告精彩纷呈，专家学者深度交流、亮点频现，展现出研讨会规格高、参与性广、影响力大、理论性强等特点。研讨会的成功举办，对宣传阐释党的重大理论创新成果、推动思想政治教育实践发展、推进思想政治教育学科建设具有重要意义。
