Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Leads Delegation on Academic Exchange Visits to Uzbekistan and Russia

From 22 to 29 April 2024, Lin Jianhua, Vice President of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, led a delegation to Uzbekistan and Russia to participate in international academic conferences, discuss academic cooperation and exchange matters, promote socialism with Chinese characteristics for a New Era, and conduct research on the national conditions of the visited countries. The delegation members included: Chen Airu, Researcher and Director of the Research Office on the Theory of Foreign Communist Parties, Department of Studies on Foreign Marxism, Academy of Marxism; Tian Kun, Associate Researcher and Director of the Research Office on Party Building and Party History, Department of Studies on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Academy of Marxism; Pan Xihua, Associate Researcher and Director of the Research Office on the History of the International Communist Movement, Department of Studies on the International Communist Movement, Academy of Marxism; and Shan Chao, Assistant Researcher, World Socialism Research Center, Academy of Marxism.

I. Visit to Bukhara State University in Uzbekistan for Discussion and Exchange

一、赴乌兹别克斯坦布哈拉国立大学座谈交流

On 23 April, the delegation visited Bukhara State University in Uzbekistan. They held discussions and exchanges with Vice Rector Zhukov, who is responsible for international cooperation and exchange. The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics including the achievements of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, the main content, core tenets, systemic logic, and significant implications of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the guiding significance of China’s achievements in poverty alleviation for other developing countries.

On 25 April, in St. Petersburg, Russia, the delegation held discussions and exchanges with experts and scholars from the Russian Center for Institutional Innovation on issues such as cadre training and ideological security.

III. Participation in an International Conference in Moscow and Discussions and Exchanges with the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and Scholars

On 26 April, the delegation participated in the international symposium “Marxism in a Multipolar World: Theory and Reality,” hosted by the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences. More than 20 experts and scholars from research institutions and universities, including the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Moscow Higher School of Economics, participated in the discussions.

4月26日，参加俄罗斯科学院哲学研究所主办的“多极化世界中的马克思主义：理论与现实”国际研讨会。来自中国社会科学院马克思主义研究院、俄罗斯科学院哲学研究所、莫斯科高等经济学院等科研机构、高校的20余名专家学者参与研讨。

On 28 April, the delegation held separate discussions with Novikov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation; Yuri Tavrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association; Professor Burov and Professor Shevchenko, senior researchers at the Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences; and Ye. A. Kotelenets, author of the book *In Defense of Lenin: The Latest Research and Controversies*.

Novikov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, participated in the meeting along with two other members of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. Novikov stated that the Communist Party of the Russian Federation pays close attention to new developments and achievements in the field of Marxist research. Novikov also expressed great interest in the specific situation of the World Socialist Forum. He considered the World Socialist Forum an important platform for uniting left-wing intellectuals globally and stated that the Communist Party of the Russian Federation would continue to actively support the forum’s related work in the future.

Tavrovsky is a renowned Russian sinologist. He has consistently focused on China’s development and changes in the New Era and has written several books about China in the New Era. During the discussion with him, the two sides exchanged views on topics such as “further developing friendly Sino-Russian relations,” “Chinese-path modernization,” and “ideological construction in Russia.” The delegation promoted Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to him, focusing on the new developments and changes in the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era.

塔夫罗夫斯基是俄罗斯著名的汉学家，他一直关注新时代中国发展变化，并撰写了多本关于新时代中国的著作。在与他的座谈中，双方围绕“进一步发展中俄友好关系”、“中国式现代化”、“俄罗斯意识形态建设”等议题展开讨论。代表团围绕新时代中国特色社会主义建设事业中的新发展、新变化，向其宣传新时代中国特色社会主义思想。

3. Discussion with Professors Burov and Shevchenko of the Institute of Philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences

3.与俄罗斯科学院哲学所布罗夫、舍甫琴科教授座谈

Professors Burov and Shevchenko are Russian Marxist scholars who have consistently supported the path of socialist development and persistently conducted research on Marxism and socialism. The two professors have visited China many times and have consistently followed the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era. They highly appraised socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era. Therefore, the delegation’s visit brought them particular happiness. Even though they are already in their eighties and nineties, they insisted on holding discussions with the delegation to actively learn about China’s new developments and changes. The delegation presented them with copies of *Xi Jinping: The Governance of China* (Russian edition), as well as publications and scholarly works from our academy. It was palpable that they were excited to receive these new materials.

布罗夫和舍甫琴科教授是俄罗斯的马克思主义学者，他们一直支持社会主义发展道路，也一直坚持进行马克思主义和社会主义研究。两位教授曾多次到访中国，也一直关注新时代中国特色社会主义建设事业。他们高度评价新时代中国特色社会主义，所以，代表团的到来让他们感到特别幸福，即使他们已经八九十岁高龄，还是坚持要跟代表团座谈，积极了解中国的新发展、新变化。代表团向他们赠送《习近平谈治国理政》（俄文版）和我院出版的刊物及我院学者著作，能感受到，他们获得这些新材料的兴奋。

4. Discussion with Russian Historian Kotelenets

4.与俄罗斯历史学家科捷列涅茨座谈

Kotelenets is a renowned Russian historian, particularly accomplished in the field of Soviet history research. Her monograph *In Defense of Lenin: The Latest Research and Controversies* has been translated and introduced in China. During the discussion with Kotelenets, she shared her insights from studying Lenin and her latest works, expressing a desire to continue academic cooperation. The delegation introduced the latest progress in China’s research on Marxism-Leninism and provided a detailed account of the original contributions of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The two sides exchanged books and publications and expressed mutual wishes to continue promoting academic communication and exchange in the future.

科捷列涅茨是俄罗斯著名史学家，尤其在苏联史研究领域颇有建树。她的专著《为列宁而辩——最新研究与争论》已译介到我国。在与科捷列涅茨的座谈中，科捷列涅茨介绍了她研究列宁的心得体会和最新著作，表达了希望继续学术合作的愿望。出访团介绍了中国研究马克思列宁主义的最新进展，详细介绍了习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想的原创性贡献。双方互赠书刊并表达了今后继续促进学术沟通和交流的良好愿望。
