Vigorously Advancing the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System for Chinese Economics

The first volume of *Selected Works of Xi Jinping on the Economy* (hereinafter referred to as the *Selected Works*) has recently been published and distributed. The publication and distribution of the *Selected Works* is a major event in China’s political and economic life, and even more so a major event in China’s ideological and theoretical circles. The *Selected Works* innovatively develops the academic connotation and scholarly norms of the independent knowledge system of Chinese economics, provides signature concepts for constructing an independent knowledge system for China’s economy, frames the main content framework, and, with its powerful practical guiding force, ensures the practical efficacy of the Chinese economics independent knowledge system under construction. It is a scientific guide for advancing the construction of an independent knowledge system for Chinese economics.

《习近平经济文选》第一卷（以下简称《文选》）近期出版发行。该《文选》的出版发行是我国政治经济生活中的一件大事，更是我国思想理论界的一件大事。《文选》创新发展了中国经济学自主知识体系的学术内涵和学理规范，为构建中国经济自主知识体系建设提供了标识性概念，架构了主体内容框架，并以其强大的实践指导力确保构建中的中国经济学自主知识体系的实践功效，是推进中国经济学自主知识体系建设的科学指南。

The *Selected Works* brings together a series of original concepts: the new stage of development, the new development philosophy, the new development pattern, new quality productive forces, a modernized economic system, supply-side structural reform, high-quality development, and so on. These signature concepts are closely attached to the main trunk of the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era system, interconnecting and echoing each other, jointly manifesting the spiritual essence and theoretical quintessence of the “economic volume” of the latest theoretical achievements in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times. They have in fact formed a logically rigorous and scholarly coherent group of signature concepts. This is not only a marker of the “terminological revolution” in Chinese economics in the New Era, but also a marker of the independent knowledge system of Chinese economics, vividly embodying the value pursuit, problem horizon, and evaluation criteria of Chinese economics with Chinese characteristics and Chinese style. The series of signature concepts appearing in the *Selected Works* resolves the logical starting point for constructing an independent knowledge system for Chinese economics, proceeding from this to achieve a situation where signature concepts govern and encompass basic concepts, categories, and logical innovations, include both principled knowledge blocks and practical knowledge blocks, truly realize the originality and “Chinese independence” of the knowledge system, and thereby form an independent knowledge system for Chinese economics.

《文选》集纳了系列独创性概念：新发展阶段、新发展理念、新发展格局、新质生产力、现代化经济体系、供给侧结构性改革、高质量发展等。这些标识性概念紧紧附着于习近平新时代中国特色社会主义思想体系的精神主干，互相之间贯通呼应，共同展现马克思主义中国化时代化最新理论成果“经济卷”的精神实质和理论精髓，事实上形成了逻辑严密、学理贯通的标识性概念群。这不仅是新时代中国经济学“术语革命”的标志，也是中国经济学自主知识体系的标识，鲜明体现了具有中国特色、中国气派的中国经济学的价值追求、问题视野和评判标准。《文选》中出现的系列标识性概念，解决了构建中国经济学自主知识体系的逻辑起点问题，由此走向由标识性概念统摄并涵盖基本概念、范畴、逻辑创新，囊括原理性知识板块、实践性知识板块，真正实现知识体系的独创性和“中国自主”，进而形成了中国经济学自主知识体系。

The *Selected Works* adheres to the integration of history, theory, and reality, profoundly answering major questions such as what kind of development China’s economy should achieve in the New Era and how to achieve it: from strengthening the Party’s overall leadership over economic work to adhering to a people-centered development philosophy, and then to changes in the principal social contradiction; from upholding and improving the basic socialist economic system to adhering to the direction of socialist market economy reform, and then to building a high-level socialist market economy system; from the new normal of economic development to supply-side structural reform, and then to building a modernized economic system; from entering a new stage of development, implementing the new development philosophy, constructing a new development pattern, and promoting high-quality development to comprehensively advancing Chinese-path modernization, and so on. These theoretical achievements constitute a political economy suited to contemporary China’s national conditions and the characteristics of the times, thereby erecting the main content framework of the independent knowledge system of Chinese economics. The main content framework has an inherent spiritual coherence with other major theoretical innovations in the system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics, vividly embodying the spiritual essence and theoretical quintessence of the latest theoretical achievements in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times. It is an organic component of an ever-living theoretical organism, ultimately making the completion of an independent knowledge system of Chinese economics with Chinese style and Chinese characteristics an inevitable trend that follows the natural course of events.

《文选》坚持历史、理论、现实相结合，深刻回答新时代中国经济要实现什么样的发展、怎样实现发展等重大问题：从加强党对经济工作的全面领导到坚持以人民为中心的发展思想、再到社会主要矛盾变化，从坚持和完善社会主义基本经济制度到坚持社会主义市场经济改革方向、再到构建高水平社会主义市场经济体制，从经济发展新常态到供给侧结构性改革、再到建设现代化经济体系，从进入新发展阶段、贯彻新发展理念、构建新发展格局、推动高质量发展到全面推进中国式现代化，等等。这些理论成果是适应当代中国国情和时代特点的政治经济学，从而搭建起了中国经济学自主知识体系的主体内容框架。主体内容框架与中国特色社会主义理论体系中的其他重大理论创新之间具有内在的精神贯通，鲜明体现了马克思主义中国化时代化最新理论成果的精神实质和理论精髓，是生生不息的理论生命体的有机组成部分，最终使中国气派、中国特色的中国经济学自主知识体系的完成成为顺势而为的必然趋势。

China’s independent knowledge system must be grounded in practice, solve practical problems, and thereby guide practical development. This means it must focus on the major issues in the development of scientific socialism in the 21st century, implement the guidance of Marxism in researching major theoretical and practical issues, and in proposing and solving problems with correct ideas and effective methods. The *Selected Works* is based on China’s national conditions and the development practice of socialist economic construction, deeply researching the new situations and new problems facing China’s economy and the world economy. On the one hand, it provides guidance for major plans in China’s economic development, emphasizing that the formulation of economic development plans should start from national conditions, come from Chinese practice and go to Chinese practice, making theoretical and policy innovations conform to Chinese reality and possess Chinese characteristics, demonstrating a strong practical guiding force for socialist economic construction with Chinese characteristics. On the other hand, the *Selected Works* conforms to the trend of China’s economy deeply integrating into the world economy, actively participating in global economic governance and guiding the direction of economic globalization. The *Selected Works* stands at the tide of the times, understands the changes of past and present, and gives voice to pioneering ideas. Centering on what we are doing in economic development, it maintains a high sensitivity and effective responsiveness to the actual situation and future development trends of the world economy, combining problem awareness, analytical frameworks, and innovative viewpoints. It not only provides a value pursuit for the construction of an independent knowledge system for Chinese economics, but also provides a strategic framework and practical path. The *Selected Works* closely integrates the new realities of China’s and the world’s economic development in the 21st century, strengthens the analysis and research of new situations, new circumstances, and new problems, and through systematic summarization, accurate refinement, in-depth excavation, and scientific generalization, enables Chinese economics to radiate a power rich in the spirit of the times on Chinese soil and even worldwide.

中国自主知识体系要立足实践、解决实际问题，进而指导实践发展。这也就意味着它必须聚焦21世纪科学社会主义发展进程中的重大问题，将马克思主义的指导落实到研究重大理论和实践问题上来，落实到提出和解决问题的正确思路和有效办法上来。《文选》立足我国国情和社会主义经济建设的发展实践，深入研究世界经济和我国经济面临的新情况新问题。一方面，对我国经济发展重大规划进行指导，强调制定经济发展规划从国情出发，从中国实践中来、到中国实践中去，使理论和政策创新符合中国实际、具有中国特色，彰显了对中国特色社会主义经济建设的强大现实指导力；另一方面，《文选》顺应我国经济深度融入世界经济的趋势，积极参与全球经济治理、引导好经济全球化走向。《文选》立时代之潮头、通古今之变化、发思想之先声，以经济发展中我们正在做的事情为中心，对世界经济发展现实形势和未来发展趋势保持高度的敏感性、有效的应对性，将问题意识、分析框架、创新观点结合起来，不仅为中国经济学自主知识体系的构建提供价值追求，也提供战略框架和实践路径。《文选》紧密结合21世纪中国和世界经济发展新的实际，加强对新形势、新情况和新问题的分析研究，通过系统总结、准确提炼、深入挖掘和科学概括，使中国经济学在中国大地上乃至世界范围内焕发出富有时代气息的力量。
