At the new book launch, Chinese Ambassador to Greece Fang Qiu delivered a speech. He pointed out that today’s world is witnessing the accelerated evolution of changes unseen in a century and profound adjustments in the international order, and that erroneous views of Second World War history have led to many deviations in people’s understanding of the war. *New History of the Second World War* (English Edition), grounded in China and the times, re-examines the origins, course, and far-reaching impact of the Second World War from a global perspective, providing a more multidimensional lens for understanding this unprecedented catastrophe in human history, articulating China’s position, and presenting a correct view of history. He emphasized taking this new book launch as an opportunity to continue strengthening academic exchanges and cooperation, to draw wisdom and strength from the profound lessons of the Second World War and the great victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, to evoke the yearning for and steadfastness in peace among people of goodwill, to resolutely oppose all forms of hegemonism and power politics, and to jointly safeguard world peace.
Professor Stelios Virvidakis of the Department of Philosophy and History of Science at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and former president of the Athens Center for the Mutual Understanding of Chinese and Greek Civilizations stated in his speech that the Second World War was the most brutal war humanity has ever experienced, and its effects continue to this day. Although China and Greece differ in national strength and scale, both demonstrated resilience and unyieldingness in their struggles against fascist forces. In today’s turbulent world, China and Greece can still contribute to world peace from their respective perspectives. He argued that culture and philosophical reflection have unique value in promoting mutual understanding among people, and that the publication of the new book will promote in-depth discussions among historians and social scientists, helping people more fully understand the profound impact of the Second World War on the contemporary world.
