The Second World Conference on China Studies Held in Shanghai; Li Shulei Attends and Delivers a Keynote Speech

Li Shulei, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended and delivered a keynote speech. Chen Jining, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the CPC, attended and delivered an address.

Chinese and foreign guests believed that President Xi Jinping’s 2023 letter of congratulations to the World Conference on China Studies · Shanghai Forum pointed out that “China studies is the study of historical China as well as the study of contemporary China,” providing important guidance for promoting academic exchanges and dialogue between civilizations. At present, changes unseen in a century are accelerating, humanity stands at a new crossroads, and the international community’s attention to China is growing day by day. It is necessary to adhere to a global perspective, base oneself on China’s practice, continuously improve the knowledge system of China studies, interpret China in depth academically, and better contribute to the world with Chinese wisdom and Chinese concepts.

中外嘉宾认为，习近平主席2023年向世界中国学大会·上海论坛致贺信，指出“中国学是历史中国之学，也是当代中国之学”，为促进中外学术交流和文明对话提供了重要指引。当前，世界百年未有之大变局加速演进，人类站在新的十字路口，国际社会对中国的关注与日俱增。要坚持全球视野，立足中国实践，不断完善中国学知识体系，在学术上深入解读中国，以中国智慧、中国理念更好地贡献世界。

Chinese and foreign guests indicated that China studies should understand Chinese civilization as an organic and unified living entity, grasp the overall picture of China’s economic, political, and social development in a broader historical and cultural space; should deeply explain the path of Chinese-path modernization, and present to the world a true, multi-dimensional, and comprehensive China; should practice the Global Civilization Initiative, act as envoys connecting Chinese and foreign civilizations, and play a greater role in promoting exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations.

中外嘉宾表示，中国学研究要将中华文明作为有机统一的生命体进行理解，在更广阔的历史文化空间把握中国经济政治社会发展全貌；要深入阐释中国式现代化道路，向世界讲清楚真实、立体、全面的中国；要践行全球文明倡议，做融通中外文明的使者，为推动文明交流互鉴发挥更大作用。

This conference, with the theme “Historical China and Contemporary China from a World Perspective,” was hosted by the State Council Information Office and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and relevant universities. The “Shanghai Initiative on Mutual Learning among Civilizations and the Flourishing Development of World China Studies” was released at the conference. Approximately 500 guests from more than 50 countries and regions attended the conference.

本届大会以“世界视野下的历史中国与当代中国”为主题，由国务院新闻办公室、上海市人民政府主办，文化和旅游部、中国社科院和有关高校协办。会上发布了《文明互鉴与世界中国学繁荣发展：上海倡议》。来自50多个国家和地区的约500位嘉宾与会。
