Cultivating and practicing the core socialist values is an important task in the work of propaganda, ideology, and culture, and a spiritual force for advancing the cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics and realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Not long ago, the National Conference on Propaganda, Ideology, and Culture Work was convened. General Secretary Xi Jinping issued important instructions on propaganda, ideology, and culture work, putting forward the requirements of the “seven focal efforts,” [1]1 The “seven focal efforts” (七个着力) refers to seven key tasks in propaganda, ideology, and culture work outlined by Xi Jinping in 2023, including cultivating core socialist values, strengthening cultural confidence, and improving communication. of which “striving to cultivate and practice the core socialist values” is an important component. Cultivating and practicing the core socialist values bears on social harmony and stability, bears on the long-term peace and order of the country, is a major task for upholding and developing socialism with Chinese characteristics in the New Era, and is also an inherent requirement for raising the ideological realm of the people, strengthening the people’s spiritual strength, and enriching the people’s spiritual world.

China is a large country with a population of over 1.4 billion and 56 ethnic groups. Without common core values, it would easily become a heap of loose sand. For any culture to stand up and become strong, fundamentally, it depends on the vitality and leading power of the core values that condense and run through it. The core socialist values are rooted in the fertile soil of Chinese culture and forged in the great practice of our Party leading the people in long-term struggle. Cultivating and practicing the core socialist values means leading the people of all ethnic groups across the country to work with one heart and one mind, to strive unitedly for common ideals and values, and ultimately to gather the Chinese strength to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

In the New Era, China’s development is at a new historical juncture. Only by recognizing and implementing the cultivation and practice of the core socialist values as a major task can we ensure that socialism with Chinese characteristics always advances victoriously along the correct path and continuously demonstrates stronger vitality.

Schools are important institutions for cultivating and educating social members; the value orientation of school education is a key venue influencing the ideals, beliefs, values, and moral concepts of social members. The cultivation and practice of core socialist values should be integrated into the entire process of national education. Use core socialist values to forge souls and educate people, improve the ideological and political work system, and advance the integrated construction of ideological and political education in universities, middle schools, and primary schools. Incorporate education on core socialist values into educational and teaching plans, and carry out targeted education on core socialist values according to different educational stages and the characteristics of different educational subjects. In the Internet era, cyberspace involves multiple subjects in the production, uploading, and dissemination of ideological and cultural products; dissemination is convenient, rapid, and extensive, with a large and broad impact. It is necessary to attach great importance to the value orientation of cyberspace and resolutely prevent the spread of ideological and cultural garbage in cyberspace that runs counter to core socialist values.

在家庭、学校、机关企事业单位以及所有公共生活空间广泛开展培育和践行社会主义核心价值观的工作。家庭是每一个社会成员接受启蒙教育的重要起点，家庭教育的价值取向，会影响人的一生。倡导每一个家庭都注重培育和传承良好家风重视家教，切实担负起培育正向正能的家庭责任和社会责任。学校是培养教育社会成员的重要机构，学校教育的价值取向，是影响社会成员理想信念、价值理念和道德观念的重要场所。要把培育和践行社会主义核心价值观融入国民教育全过程。用社会主义核心价值观铸魂育人，完善思想政治工作体系，推进大中小学思想政治教育一体化建设。把社会主义核心价值观教育纳入教育教学方案，根据不同学段、不同特点的教育对象，有针对性地开展社会主义核心价值观教育。在互联网时代，网络空间对思想文化产品的制作、上载、传播主体多元，传播便捷、迅速、广泛，影响面大、影响力广，必须高度重视网络空间的价值导向，坚决杜绝与社会主义核心价值观背道而驰的思想文化垃圾在网络空间传播。

For example, at the national level, education on inheriting and promoting the great founding spirit of the Party and education on the “Four Histories” [6]6 “Four Histories” refers to the history of the Communist Party of China, the history of the People’s Republic of China, the history of reform and opening up, and the history of the development of socialism. have been organized. In 2014, Martyrs’ Day was officially established; every year on September 30, central leaders and representatives from all walks of life hold a solemn commemorative ceremony at the Monument to the People’s Heroes on Tiananmen Square with reverence. 开展涵养社会主义核心价值观的实践活动。培育和践行社会主义核心价值观，要善于创新创造活动载体。习近平总书记指出：“一种价值观要真正发挥作用，必须融入社会生活，让人们在实践中感知它、领悟它。”党的十八大以来，从中央到地方开展了很多涵养社会主义核心价值观的实践活动，产生了良好的效果。例如，在国家层面，组织开展了传承弘扬伟大建党精神的教育和“四史”教育。2014年正式设立烈士纪念日，每年9月30日，中央领导和社会各界代表怀着崇敬的心情到天安门广场人民英雄纪念碑前举办隆重的纪念仪式。各地基层党组织发掘本地红色教育资源进行爱国主义和革命传统教育、评优树先、开展学雷锋志愿服务活动、组织开展“慈心一日捐”和其他捐助活动、评选表彰本地道德模范、发现身边的榜样、评选好媳妇好婆婆、评选表彰孝老爱亲榜样等，都有助于培育和践行社会主义核心价值观。
