The content construction of ideological and political courses and the theoretical achievements of the Party’s innovation possess an inherent consistency; strengthening ideological education and theoretical arming is an important mission of the construction of ideological and political courses in schools. In May 2024, General Secretary Xi Jinping issued an important directive on the construction of ideological and political courses in schools, emphasizing the need to “persist in advancing the construction of ideological and political courses in tandem with the arming of the Party’s innovative theories.” Persisting in advancing the construction of ideological and political courses in tandem with the arming of the Party’s innovative theories is an inevitable requirement for creating a new situation in ideological and political education in the New Era, and an important guarantee for cultivating more new-era individuals who reassure the Party, love the country and contribute to it, and bear the heavy responsibility of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

During the period of the New Democratic Revolution, propagating Marxism and the Party’s policies and guidelines, enabling the vast number of aspiring youth to learn to use the Marxist class viewpoint, theory of struggle, etc., to find a bright path for China, was an important magic weapon for the Chinese Communist Party to win over youth and win popular support through theoretical arming, and thereby gradually grow from weak to strong and develop and expand. During this period, our Party offered courses such as “Party Building,” “History of the Chinese Revolutionary Movement,” “Marxism-Leninism,” “Dialectical Materialism,” and “Scientific Socialism” at institutions of higher learning such as the Red Army University, the Soviet University, the Counter-Japanese Military and Political University, and the Northern Shaanxi Public School; offered a “Social Work” course at Lenin Primary Schools; and offered a “Political Common Sense” course in primary schools in the liberated areas and middle schools in the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region. These courses closely integrated the study and propagation of Marxism with the transformation of students’ thinking, accumulating valuable experience for the construction of ideological and political courses and the strengthening of the arming of the Party’s innovative theories after the founding of New China.

新民主主义革命时期，宣传马克思主义和党的方针政策，让广大有志青年学会用马克思主义的阶级观点、斗争理论等为中国找到一条光明的道路，是中国共产党在理论武装中赢得青年、赢得民心，进而逐渐由弱到强、发展壮大的重要法宝。这一时期，我们党在红军大学、苏维埃大学、抗日军政大学、陕北公学等高校开设“党的建设”“中国革命运动史”“马列主义”“辩证唯物主义”“科学社会主义”等课程，在列宁小学开设“社会工作”课程，在解放区的小学、陕甘宁边区的中学开设“政治常识”课程。这些课程把学习宣传马克思主义和转变学生思想紧密结合，为新中国成立后进行思政课建设、加强党的创新理论武装积累了宝贵经验。

社会主义革命和建设时期，为了扩大马克思主义在中国的宣传普及，使党的指导思想成为国家和社会的指导思想，为巩固新生的人民民主政权、建立社会主义制度提供强大思想保证，我们党加强马克思主义理论教育，把“中国革命常识”“共同纲领”列入中学教学计划，在高校开设“中国革命史”“马列主义基础”“政治经济学”“辩证唯物论与历史唯物论”等课程，强调中高等学校政治理论课的任务是用马克思列宁主义、毛泽东思想武装青年，培养坚强的革命接班人。

On March 18, 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping presided over a symposium for teachers of ideological and political theory courses in schools, emphasizing that “we must adhere to the unity of political nature and academic rationality, respond to students with thorough academic analysis, convince students with thorough ideological theory, and guide students with the powerful force of truth.” Running ideological and political courses well means carrying out Marxist theoretical education and using Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to cast the soul and cultivate people. On May 11, 2024, a promotion meeting for the construction of ideological and political courses in schools in the New Era was held in Beijing, at which General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important directive was conveyed. In his important directive, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized “persisting in advancing the construction of ideological and political courses in tandem with the arming of the Party’s innovative theories.” This is not only a summary of the Party’s experience in leading the construction of ideological and political courses, but also an important channel for the arming of the Party’s innovative theories.
