Advancing Green Education Practice in Universities with the New Era Ecological Civilization Concept

General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that ecological civilization construction has been incorporated into the overall layout of China’s national development, and building a Beautiful China has become the goal that the Chinese people yearn for. China’s ecological civilization construction has entered a fast track, with bluer skies, greener mountains, and cleaner water continuously unfolding before the world. It is necessary to firmly adhere to Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization as the theoretical guide, integrate the New Era ecological civilization concept contained in Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization into the green education practice of universities, create a new pattern of green education in universities, and cultivate solid reserve forces for building Chinese-path modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature. Advancing green education practice in universities with the New Era ecological civilization concept is both the core content of implementing the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education in universities and the practical need and historical requirement for building Chinese-path modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature.

习近平总书记强调，生态文明建设已经纳入中国国家发展总体布局，建设美丽中国已经成为中国人民心向往之的奋斗目标。中国生态文明建设进入了快车道，天更蓝、山更绿、水更清将不断展现在世人面前。必须坚持以习近平生态文明思想为理论指引，将习近平生态文明思想蕴含的新时代生态文明理念融入高校绿色育人实践，打造高校绿色育人的全新格局，为建设人与自然和谐共生的中国式现代化培养坚实的后备力量。以新时代生态文明理念推进高校绿色育人实践，既是贯彻落实高校立德树人根本任务的核心内容，也是建设人与自然和谐共生的中国式现代化的现实需要与历史要求。

“Harmony between humanity and nature” manifests at a deep level as a value concept, which not only constitutes the essential characteristic of Chinese-path modernization but is also the value orientation of Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization. It fundamentally clarifies the dialectical unity of symbiosis and mutual prosperity between humanity and nature based on practice, establishing the value criteria for the interaction between humanity and nature. “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets” manifests at a deep level as a thinking concept, fundamentally resolving the metaphysical mode of thinking that polarizes economic development and ecological protection into opposites. It strives to achieve the organic unity of economic development and ecological protection by transforming development thinking, insisting on protection in development and development in protection. “Respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature” manifests at a deep level as a concept of nature. The core reference of the concept of nature is humanity’s value attitude toward nature. According to the viewpoint of historical materialism, nature is an objective existence independent of human consciousness, but human survival and development must be based on dependence on nature. Therefore, only by establishing the ecological civilization concept of “respecting nature, conforming to nature, and protecting nature” can we avoid detours in the development and utilization of nature. “Green development” manifests at a deep level as a development concept. As an important component of the new development concept, it has truly implemented the New Era ecological civilization concept at the practical level, constituting the action guide for ecological civilization construction in the New Era.

“人与自然和谐共生”在深层次上表现为一种价值观念，既构成了中国式现代化的本质特征，同时也是习近平生态文明思想的价值指向，从根本上明确了人与自然以实践为基础的共生共荣的辩证统一关系，确立了人与自然交往的价值准则。“绿水青山就是金山银山”在深层次上表现为一种思维观念，从根本上化解了经济发展与生态保护两极对立的形而上学思维方式，力求通过转变发展思路实现经济发展与生态保护的有机统一，坚持在保护中发展、在发展中保护。“尊重自然、顺应自然、保护自然”在深层次上表现为一种自然观念。自然观念核心指涉的是人类对待自然的价值态度。按照历史唯物主义的观点，自然是不依赖人的意识的客观存在，但人类的生存发展必须建立在自然依赖的基础之上。因此，只有树立“尊重自然、顺应自然、保护自然”生态文明理念，才能在开发利用自然上少走弯路。“绿色发展”在深层次上表现为一种发展观念，它作为新发展理念的重要组成内容，将新时代生态文明理念真正落实到了实践层面，构成了新时代生态文明建设的行动指南。

习近平生态文明思想蕴含着丰富而深刻的新时代生态文明理念，并在逻辑上表现为价值观念、思维观念、自然观念和发展观念的高度统一。习近平生态文明思想蕴含的新时代生态文明理念，从根本上明确了高校绿色育人实践的核心内容和基本方向。

Green education practice in universities is an important strategic task for ecological civilization construction in the New Era. Ecological civilization is a fundamental plan concerning the sustainable development of Chinese civilization, while education is a great plan of the state for realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. One important aspect of the smooth advancement of ecological civilization construction is to deeply embed the New Era ecological civilization concept in people’s hearts, enabling the practical subjects to sincerely revere nature, love nature, and protect nature from within, thereby providing a continuous internal driving force for ecological civilization construction. In this sense, green education practice in universities bears the historical responsibility of cultivating socialist successors equipped with the New Era ecological civilization concept. To this end, it is necessary to leverage the pioneering, foundational, and overarching role of green education in universities in disseminating and cultivating the New Era ecological civilization concept. In accordance with the fundamental requirement of fostering virtue through education in ideological and political education in the New Era, the New Era ecological civilization concept must be integrated into the entire process, all personnel, and all aspects of green education in universities, thereby consolidating the talent foundation for ecological civilization construction in the New Era.

高校绿色育人实践是新时代生态文明建设的重要战略任务。生态文明是关涉中华文明永续发展的根本大计，而教育是实现中华民族伟大复兴的国之大计。生态文明建设的顺利推进，其中的一个重要方面是推动新时代生态文明理念深入人心，让实践主体发自内心地尊崇自然、热爱自然、保护自然，从而为生态文明建设提供源源不断的内在动力。在此意义上，高校绿色育人实践承担着培养具备新时代生态文明理念的社会主义接班人的历史重任。为此，必须发挥高校绿色育人在传播、培育新时代生态文明理念中的先导性、基础性、全局性作用，按照新时代思想政治教育立德树人的根本要求，将新时代生态文明理念融入高校绿色育人的全员、全程和全方位，为新时代生态文明建设夯实人才基础。

As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters the New Era, China’s principal social contradiction has undergone a profound transformation. The needs of the people have achieved an all-round leap from abundant material and cultural needs to the need for a better life. The need for a better life includes not only traditional material and cultural needs but also, more importantly, the need for a beautiful and livable ecological environment. Young university students, as the reserve forces for Chinese-path modernization construction, are important audiences, disseminators, and practitioners of the New Era ecological civilization concept. Advancing green education practice in universities with the New Era ecological civilization concept and cultivating the ecological value concepts of young university students concerns the ultimate success or failure of building a Beautiful China. To this end, it is necessary to closely align with the reality of changes in China’s principal social contradiction, deeply carry out green education practice in universities, and deeply meet the practical development needs of Chinese-path modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature.

高校绿色育人实践是推进人与自然和谐共生的中国式现代化的现实需要。中国特色社会主义进入新时代，我国的社会主要矛盾发生了深刻转化，人民群众的需要已经实现从丰富的物质文化需要向美好生活需要的全方位跃升。美好生活需要既包括传统的物质文化需要，更包括优美宜居的生态环境需要。青年大学生作为中国式现代化建设的后备力量，是新时代生态文明理念的重要受众、传播者和践行者。通过新时代生态文明理念推进高校绿色育人实践、培育青年大学生的生态价值观念，事关美丽中国建设的最终成败。为此，必须紧扣中国社会主要矛盾的变化现实，深入开展高校绿色育人实践，以深度契合人与自然和谐共生的中国式现代化的现实发展需要。

Ecological civilization is the historical trend of human civilization development, and young university students are the main force for building ecological civilization in the future. Green education practice in universities, as an important component of ecological civilization education, is the core means of cultivating young university students’ ecological civilization concepts and cultivating the main force adapted to the requirements of ecological civilization construction. To this end, it is necessary to take Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization as the theoretical guide, summarize and refine the New Era ecological civilization concept contained in Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, firmly grasp the overall direction of green education in universities from a political height, implement the scientific New Era ecological civilization concept throughout the entire process of green education practice in universities, and continuously deepen the model innovation of green education practice in universities. While cultivating the New Era ecological civilization concepts of young university students, it is also necessary to enhance their sense of historical mission and practical responsibility for building Chinese-path modernization featuring harmony between humanity and nature.

生态文明是人类文明发展的历史趋势，青年大学生则是未来建设生态文明的主体力量。高校绿色育人实践作为生态文明教育的重要构成内容，是培育青年大学生生态文明观念、培养与生态文明建设要求相适应的主体力量的核心手段。为此，必须以习近平生态文明思想为理论指引，总结提炼出习近平生态文明思想蕴含的新时代生态文明理念，从政治的高度牢牢把握高校绿色育人的总体方向，将科学的新时代生态文明理念贯彻到高校绿色育人实践的全过程，不断深化高校绿色育人实践的模式创新。在培育青年大学生新时代生态文明观念的同时，增强青年大学生建设人与自然和谐共生的中国式现代化的历史使命感与现实责任感。

围绕新时代生态文明理念，通过多种方式与手段打造高校绿色育人新格局。其一，构建科学完备的生态文明教育机制。构建科学完备的生态文明教育机制，是高校绿色育人实践的首要任务。为此，必须以习近平生态文明思想为指导，以新时代生态文明理念为核心内容，全面推动生态文明教育理念、教学内容、教学方法的重构与创新，形成与时代发展需要符合的生态文明教育机制。现阶段，多地高校开展了由学院团委牵头的“聚焦生态文明，共绘绿色未来”主题社会实践。通过问卷调查、实地考察与访谈等方式，调研生态保护现状，绘制生态地图，促使学生积极提出绿色发展建议，参与到共筑生态文明新篇章之中，从而实现了生态文明教育机制的创新发展。其二，构建科学系统的绿色育人工作机制。高校绿色育人实践是一项高度复杂的系统工程。推进高校绿色育人实践，需要建构一套符合我国高校发展实际情况的、科学系统的工作机制。为此，首先应强化高校绿色育人实践的师资队伍建设，高水平的师资队伍是高校绿色育人实践的重要支撑。其次，应打造满足高校绿色育人实践的全新课程体系。在这一过程中，要重点推进高校绿色育人实践与高校思想政治理论课的有机融合，推动形成“思政课程+课程思政”双向互动的整体格局。最后，应持续深化思想政治理论课改革创新，以“八个相统一”为标准，积极探索教学方法改革、优化教学手段，旨在增强思想政治理论课的思想性、理论性、亲和力与针对性，将生态文明教育、“四史”教育、党的创新理论和重要会议精神深度融入思政课教学。其三，构建科学高效的协同运转机制。习近平总书记在全国教育大会上指出，办好教育事业，家庭、学校、政府、社会都有责任。党的十九届五中全会明确提出，要健全学校家庭社会协同育人机制。高校绿色育人实践的有效推进，需要多方共同协作努力。为此，应重点打造党委领导、家庭配合、社会参与、教师与学生互为主体的定位清晰、机制健全、联动紧密、科学高效的协同运转机制，在高校、社会、教师、学生中间形成绿色育人实践的深刻联动，最终推动高校绿色育人内化于心、外化于行。
