Ideological and Political Work for University Students in the Digital Transformation

1. Understanding the “Digital Natives” and Pinpointing the Target of Ideological and Political Education

一、读懂“网络原住民”，找准思政教育靶向

Contemporary university students, as “digital natives,” have their thoughts and behaviors deeply influenced by the internet. To pinpoint the target of ideological and political education, it is necessary to enter students’ online world and understand their thoughts and ideas. Shanghai Jiao Tong University monitors students’ ideological dynamics from multiple dimensions, draws a “barometer” of students’ thoughts, and provides a solid basis for optimizing ideological and political education plans. At key growth nodes such as enrollment, examinations, major changes, and graduation, the university grasps students’ ideological concepts and online behaviors through symposiums, special surveys, and other methods. Using platforms such as the Shuiyuan Community [1]1 Shuiyuan Community (水源社区) is an online forum and bulletin board system (BBS) used by students and faculty at Shanghai Jiao Tong University for discussion and information sharing. and Xiaohongshu [2]2 Xiaohongshu (小红书), also known as “Little Red Book” or “RED,” is a popular Chinese social media and e-commerce platform focused on lifestyle content, including product reviews, travel, and fashion., the university conducts in-depth analysis of online comments, keenly perceiving students’ positions, views, and emotional fluctuations regarding current events and campus dynamics.

当代大学生作为“网络原住民”，其思想行为深受网络影响。要想找准思政教育的靶心，必须走进学生们的网络世界，读懂他们的所思所想。上海交大多维度关注学生思想动态，绘制学生思想“晴雨表”，为思政育人方案的优化提供有力依据。在入学、考试、转专业、毕业等关键成长节点，学校通过座谈会、专项调查等方式，把握学生的思想观念和网络行为。借助水源社区、小红书等平台，学校深度分析网络跟帖，敏锐感知学生对时事热点、校园动态的观点立场与情绪波动。

Language is the externalization of thought. “Internet memes,” as a unique carrier of youth discourse, reflect students’ emotional resonance, group belonging, and value identification, serving as a bond for university ideological and political education to resonate with young students. The university established a “Meme Guide” studio, actively deconstructing “internet memes,” skillfully using “meme” language, and promoting the fusion of youth subculture with the main theme of education. In 2024, the “Meme Guide” produced over 180 items, helping ideological and political workers understand the voices of young people.

语言是思想的外化。“网络梗”作为青年话语的独特载体，反映了学生的情感共鸣、群体归属与价值认同，是高校思政教育同青年学生同频的纽带。学校成立“梗指南”工作室，积极拆解“网络梗”，巧妙运用“梗”语言，推动青年亚文化与育人主旋律破壁融合。2024年，“梗指南”产出180余条，助力思政工作者读懂青年心声。

2. Mastering “Hard Skills in Using the Internet” and Enhancing the Ability to Educate People Online

二、练就“用网硬功夫”，增强网络育人本领

To win students’ recognition in the internet era, university ideological and political workers must master “hard skills in using the internet.” Shanghai Jiao Tong University established the University Student Development Research Institute in 2018, collaborating with disciplinary and professional teacher teams to jointly tackle hot, focal, and difficult issues in the field of online education. Guided by research projects, supported by research groups, and radiating through team training, the institute has gathered a group of full-time and part-time researchers who know, understand, and use the internet, forming rich theoretical research and practical achievements. In recent years, the university has published a series of monographs on online education, providing useful references for online education in universities.

要想在网络时代赢得学生的认同，高校思政工作者必须练就“用网硬功夫”。上海交大于2018年成立大学生发展研究院，联合学科专业教师团队，共同攻克网络育人领域的热点焦点难点问题。研究院以课题研究为牵引，以研修小组为支撑，以队伍培训为辐射，凝聚了一批知网、懂网、用网的专兼职研究人员，形成了丰富的理论研究和实践成果。近年来，学校出版了一系列网络育人专著，为高校网络育人提供了有益借鉴。

To strengthen the ideological and political work team, the university has held the Shanghai University Counselor “Online Ideological and Political Work and Online Literacy Education” Special Training Course for six consecutive years, covering a total of over 1,200 counselor trainees. In 2024, the university issued new media research topics nationwide, established an online education research community, and focused on organized research on the bottleneck issues currently affecting the role of new media in education. Driven by a series of measures, two of the university’s projects were selected as Ministry of Education’s Excellent Ideological and Political Work Projects. The in-depth development of online education work has promoted the upgrading of traditional education models, effectively enhancing the contemporary relevance and appeal of ideological and political education.

为建强思政工作队伍，学校连续六年举办上海高校辅导员“网络思政工作与网络素养教育”专题培训班，累计覆盖辅导员学员1200多人。2024年，学校面向全国发布新媒体课题，组建网络育人研究共同体，聚焦当前新媒体育人作用发挥的瓶颈问题开展有组织的研究。在一系列举措的推动下，学校2个项目入选教育部思想政治工作精品项目。网络育人工作的深入开展，推动传统教育模式升级，切实增强了思政教育的时代感和吸引力。

3. Equipping with a “Digital Toolbox” and Improving the Efficiency of Student Work

三、配齐“数字工具箱”，提升学生工作效能

The generation and shaping of the digital ideological and political space field rely on a complete information technology support system. Shanghai Jiao Tong University has independently developed multiple smart systems and digital tools, from strengthening basic support to optimizing intermediate processes and achieving service interaction, continuously improving work efficiency, creating a smarter, more efficient, and personalized education ecosystem, and comprehensively serving students’ growth and success.

数字思政空间场域的生成与塑造有赖于完善的信息化支撑体系。上海交大自主研发多个智慧系统和数智工具，从夯实基础支撑到优化中间流程，再到实现服务交互，不断提升工作效能，打造更加智慧、高效、个性的育人生态，全方位服务学生成长成才。

The university collaborates with multiple departments to develop a “Student Profile” system, constructing a central data warehouse centered on students, running through the entire academic stage, and covering all aspects, continuously improving information utilization efficiency and the capacity of service-oriented education work; implementing a “Second Classroom Transcript,” [3]3 “Second Classroom Transcript” (第二课堂成绩单) refers to a system in Chinese universities that formally records and certifies students’ extracurricular activities, such as volunteer work, social practice, and club participation, complementing the academic “first classroom.” recording and certifying students’ growth experiences during school from aspects such as volunteer public welfare, social practice, technological innovation, social work, and cultural and sports development, systematically constructing students’ personal digital files, helping frontline counselors more comprehensively grasp students’ growth and development dynamics; constructing a smart student affairs application based on the SSC system, effectively connecting students’ business needs in information management, investigation and testing, assessment and review, and affairs processing, improving the intermediate links of the digital workflow; relying on the management service platform “Jiaowoban,” [4]4 “Jiaowoban” (交我办) is a mobile application and online service platform developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University for students and staff to handle administrative and academic affairs. continuously optimizing the workflow for student affairs processing, achieving “more data running, less running for teachers and students”; building the “Director Wang Online” counselor master studio from a high starting point, effectively extending the education carrier, continuously iterating digital-intelligent ideological and political products, and enhancing the affinity and targeting of ideological and political education.

学校协同多部门研发“学生画像”系统，构建起以学生为中心、贯通全学段、涵盖全方面的中央数据仓库，不断提高信息利用效能和服务育人工作能级；推行“第二课堂成绩单”，从志愿公益、社会实践、科技创新、社会工作、文体发展等方面全过程记录、认证学生在校期间成长经历，系统构建学生个人数字档案，帮助一线辅导员更加全面地把握学生成长发展动态；构建基于SSC系统的智慧学工应用，有效衔接学生在信息管理、调查测试、考核评审、事务办理等方面的业务需求，完善数字化工作流程的中间环节；依托管理服务平台“交我办”，持续优化学生事务办理工作流程，实现“数据多跑路，师生少跑腿”；高起点建设“汪导在线”辅导员名师工作室，有效延伸育人载体，不断迭代数智思政产品，提升思政教育的亲和力和针对性。

4. Returning to the “True Field of Education” and Building a High Ground for Fostering Virtue and Nurturing Talent

四、回归“育人真场域”，构筑立德树人高地

On one hand, digital ideological and political work updates the spatiotemporal field of education; on the other hand, it also raises new requirements for talent cultivation. Rooted in the education scene, the university insists on caring for students’ growth, serving students’ needs, and responding to students’ concerns in the real field, committed to building campus communication spaces, smoothing channels for feedback on demands, and creating cultural and sports activity brands, guiding students to immerse themselves in campus life, and further constructing a multi-dimensional and holographic ecology for fostering virtue and nurturing talent.

数字思政一方面更新了育人时空场域，另一方面也对人才培养提出了新的要求。扎根育人场景，学校坚持在现实场域中关心学生成长、服务学生需要、回应学生关切，致力于建设校园交流空间、畅通诉求反馈渠道、打造文体活动品牌，引导学生沉浸式参与校园生活，进一步构筑立德树人多维全息生态。

Implementing the “student-centered” concept, the university has built a “Student Center” building to high standards at the central location of the Minhang campus, creating a “one-stop” new space integrating business processing, psychological counseling, exchange and learning, cultural and artistic activities, and leisure and entertainment. The office locations of student departments are organically integrated with student activity spaces, allowing counselors to be closer to students and better understand them. The university relies on channels such as the “54741234 Service Hotline” and the Secretary and President’s Mailbox to continuously accept, promptly respond to, and effectively resolve student demands 24 hours a day. Department heads regularly hold face-to-face symposiums with students to promptly adjust and optimize various management and service policies, discovering and resolving the seeds of ideological problems in daily life; specially establishing a “Qingzhi” [5]5 “Qingzhi” (青智) is a term combining “qing” (青, youth) and “zhi” (智, wisdom/intelligence), used here as the name of a student-led think tank research project. think tank research project hosted by students, holding the “Jiao·Yan” [6]6 “Jiao·Yan” (交·言) is a term combining “jiao” (交, from Jiao Tong University) and “yan” (言, speech/discourse), used here as the name of a campus construction competition. Beautiful Campus Construction Competition, encouraging students to turn problems into research topics and criticism into suggestions, enhancing consensus and growing their abilities in the process of participating in campus governance; creating top-tier campus culture, with activities such as the “Water Lantern Festival” and “Oasis Music Festival” continuously “breaking out of the circle,” showcasing the unique charm of Jiao Tong University’s campus culture.

贯彻“以学生为中心”的理念，学校在闵行校区中心位置高标准建设“学生中心”大楼，打造集业务办理、心理咨询、交流学习、文艺活动、休闲娱乐于一体的“一站式”新空间。学生部门办公地点与学生活动空间有机融合，让辅导员更加贴近学生、了解学生。学校依托“54741234服务热线”、书记校长信箱等渠道，24小时持续受理、及时响应、有效解决学生诉求，职能部处长定期与学生面对面座谈，及时调整优化各类管理服务政策，把思想问题的萌芽发现在平常、解决在平常；专门设立由学生主持的“青智”智库研究项目，举办“交·言”精美校园建设大赛，鼓励同学们把问题变成课题，把批评变成建议，在参与校园治理过程中增进共识、增长才干；打造校园文化顶流，“水灯节”“绿洲音乐节”等活动持续“破圈”，展现了交大校园文化的独特魅力。

As an important component of the digital transformation of education, “digital ideological and political work” is a key measure for implementing the project of fostering virtue and nurturing talent in the New Era and gathering a strong ideological and political guiding force for building a leading country in education.
